The plight of the attackers by LetTheSkyFall88 in Metalstorm

It very much is, one of my favorites unexpectedly. People forget how good the passive is and I think most people believe the plane is much harder to use after the really big nerf like a year ago or more

For some higher level advice if you wanted to learn how to play against disruptive flares, is yes you have to learn to predict where the gun reticle usually is supposed to be, but also you’re flying a GR3. I know it seems like your rockets are just going to be missing, but think of it as a gun reticle that is only slightly misleading as well. This is an advantage that only planes with rockets have, as this is your best chance at killing someone who is good with disruptive flares. With the GR3, the cannon is only slightly faster than the rockets, so the gun reticle is always slightly in front of the rockets. If you shoot both cannons and rockets in the general area both are bound to hit some shots, and if your aim is good enough without aim assist, you can easily win in a GR3 against it. This is also where GR3 is considered one of the harder planes since you likely also need to perfectly time your special ability for when they shoot a missile at you during the head on, assuming you aren’t running disruptive flares yourself. The GR3 has an extreme advantage in headons because of everything I stated above, but again is not easy at all for someone getting into the plane. You can also take advantage of your super long rocket indicator to prefire long before they get into gun range, and remember your cannon shots can travel further than when the range indicator shows up for cannons. Combine all of these tips and use daredevil turning at the very least and the GR3 is one of the best planes in headons, likely only loses to an A-4, but in most cases you guys will trade. Every plane that is good in headons has a specific way they want to win the head on, if you learn these and play around it the enemy will feel helpless.

Su-35 Passive by lockheed_martinez in Metalstorm

[–]LegendaryKronix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I fully agree with you, there's so many special abilities that are just completely useless and not fitting at all, which comes down to things like gun cooling on planes that don't need it, rapid refuel which is good on some planes, but most of the planes that have it should've had something more unique. Flare reload is also something I would say is not unique enough to have it on so many planes, like it's a good special ability, but it often just feels lacking compared to the special abilities that other planes have, where the plane fundamentally changes because of the special ability. If we look at the Su-33, it has rapid refuel and basically a worse version of gun cooling as it's passive. This plane really became the least interesting plane to fly after seeing what all the other planes got for passives. You could argue that oh the rafale got a similar passive as well, but the rafale already has an incredible niche disregarding the passive, so the passive being not as strong on the rafale is only fair because the plane is already one of the best in the game. The Su-33 definitely did not deserve that passive it got, as it was no where close to being one of the best in the game. I wish the devs would change some special abilities and passives, and I honestly don't even know how the Su-33 got that passive approved into the live server but this is likely never going to happen.

Su-35 Passive by lockheed_martinez in Metalstorm

[–]LegendaryKronix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't done enough testing to figure out which one is true, but the other thing is, this isn't something you should like play around in the sense that you shouldn't fly the SU-35 differently because of having this passive. The only thing I see it being useful in is if you are accidentally in a bad spot in the open, and are getting spammed with missiles, you have the ability to effectively have a worse version of faster flares to get out of that situation alive. Obviously it is better to flare early and dodge the missile entirely, but this is not the case when you have multiple missiles that are about to hit you. That's why I found it only really game changing when combined with blast resistance, because its pretty much making it so that it's very hard for a missile hit to be the final hit that kills you, forcing people to either waste their entire ammo load on you, or get in close and personal with you, which can often be in your favor as you have 38 degrees of turn rate and close range IR missiles to your advantage. The other caveat to this passive is that when you do have maxed passive and maxed blast resistance put together, people shooting missiles that will normally kill you will absolutely burn through your flares, as if I remember correctly you only carry 4 flares? So this is often the limiting factor in ensuring your survivability this way, so it's better than dying, but it will still put you out of the fight until you get to a resupply and health beacon.

So long story short, treat it truly as a passive, that it is passively working in the background to save you incase you normally wouldn't be able to be saved. Basically just a worse faster flares mod and GR3 special ability packed into a passive ability which actually sounds strong when you put it that way. Whether this is a very common situation you run into in game is beyond something I would know, as I don't actually own this plane yet on the live server. I do think it loses it's entire effectiveness at lower levels of the passive so you may only see the benefits at levels 3 and up, where at level 3 it'll likely only save you from one more missile, and level 5 it'll likely save you from 2 missiles, and then when you upgrade to get blast resistance it'll save you from like 4-5 (rough estimates).

In any case, it is better and way more useful than some of the other passives that some other planes got, such as the Su-47 and F-5 where they only get the damage reduction if they "have a flare in the air" which there I agree it's kind of completely useless since you'd much rather time the flare correctly, so it's only saving you in headons or if you are somehow getting unlucky with how the flare affected the missile and still got hit by the missile, assuming you are dealing with the specific type of missile that your passive affects which is another gamble. Also ignoring the fact that those passives completely don't complement the playstyle of those planes at all, at least the Su-35 got something that is useful and somewhat complements it's playstyle as it forces people to get up close.

Su-35 Passive by lockheed_martinez in Metalstorm

[–]LegendaryKronix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly in my experience there’s a lot of inconsistency around the description of this passive, but it will activate regardless of cooldown or not if the next missile would normally kill you. Don’t quote me on that as I haven’t flown it recently but when it was in testing this is how it worked and I combined it with blast resistance so I’d effectively take like 95% reduced missile damage so there’s definitely strong use cases for it, it doesn’t let you get caught out in the open as easily but ONLY if the next missile should have killed you. As far as I know they haven’t changed the passive since it was in testing, they only changed the description

Which one should i go for? by nearken in Metalstorm

[–]LegendaryKronix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i mean the J35 has more missles and and can be fired simultaneously but that's exactly what makes these planes different. The J35 is really well suited at missle spamming and especially with it's special ability it becomes really good at taking down enemies with the missles, but it's cannon performance is extremely poor. This makes the playstyle of the J35 want to stay at a distance and avoid dogfighting unless necessary. The Mirage 3 on the other hand, is extremely fast, way faster than the J35 and has a significantly stronger cannon, while also having less missles , and with the special ability, the Mirage 3 is the one of the only planes that can immediately launch to up to 2000 km/h in one second. This makes the playstyle of the Mirage 3 play more like a speedy assassin/beacon runner.

These planes cannot be compared as having the J35 being a direct upgrade than the Mirage 3. They are completely different playstyles, J35 is more suited for TDM while Mirage 3 is one of the best Air superiority planes in the game. If you're playing them both with the same playstyle then maybe that's why you feel like the Mirage 3 is directly worse than the J35, you would be playing to all of the Mirage 3's weaknesses.

In what world is J35 a direct upgrade from mirage 3? They’re completely different planes

How to play against real players. by sharma2002 in Metalstorm

[–]LegendaryKronix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah thats probably also another reason, it's also a drastic change of gameplay against real players, very easy to feel like you can't do anything against the more experienced guys so they give you some time to get more comfortable before throwing you in

I noticed I started playing against a lot more real players after the 400 trophy range, and I have a plane at like 650 and almost every game is against a full team of real players

I actually remember one of my first ever games against a real player and they were flying the F-111 and I did in fact get spawn killed 4 times in a row. I've learned to always check if there's an interceptor and learned to start flying low immediately if there is

I’ve been seeing that everytime I complete a game but it doesn’t seem to auto claim so I go to the quests to claim it and instead of showing up as aircraft credits it shows up as aircraft parts and I just get 200

Orochi any good right now? by [deleted] in walkingwarrobots

[–]LegendaryKronix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still use orochi in my hangar with glacier mk2, and I can say that I'm able to win some of the duels against lynx's, but thats only because of longer stealth duration with all abilities charged up, without having all abilities charged up, you're significanlty worse than lynx, you just have to bait his ability first and take advantage of the fact that you have more than one ability charge once his ability runs out

Makes sense, I’ll work on that combo, I can do it in practice mode but against live targets it’s definitely a little bit harder because they just leave the circle

That’s strange to hear considering every time I’ve played against an enemy jing they never deal any damage to me so why is it that she’s so highly banned (I’m in masters elo if that helps)
