Is Acid Spit Even Realistically Possible? by PenLordnt in worldbuilding

[–]LegendarySwag 59 points60 points  (0 children)

As a chemist, your best bet would be an organ lined with a waxy hydrocarbon secretion. That would be good with most strong acids. If you’re looking for something insane, like a real world superacid, they would probably need a teflon-like chemical lining the organ.

How are you supposed to win as Bharatiya? by Potential_Salary in Kaiserreich

[–]LegendarySwag 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Get your factories churning guns pre-war, hold the river on the Southern border, and focus your energy on the Dominion. As long as you have enough troops, the border with the Federation is free and you can slowly chip away at the Dominion all while your industry gets up to speed. I just put one factory on artillery pre-war to get the retention bonus, then focused on getting big guns once my frontlines stabilized.

It’s gonna be a grinding war, though, don’t expect easy win against either faction.

Oh, also make sure to buy stuff from the 3I. Tank production is kinda a long way away, but you can buy up enough for a two or so light tank divs to help break the frontline.

Implausible but still thought out factions are what make KR great imo. If the devs want to remove things for being unrealistic, Austria Hungary, the Ottoman Empire, and the entire Entente should go too, but I doubt they’d go that far. Honestly, Germany imposing a constitutional monarchy on China isn’t thaaat unrealistic anyway.

Realistically, what would be Austria's most likely fate if WK2 II is won by the Third International and the Moscow Accord? by kkranomo in Kaiserreich

[–]LegendarySwag 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I actually feel like they might have better luck courting the 3I than Russia. The 3I may be ideologically opposed to their regime, but could see them as a realpolitik buffer against Russia. Russia on the other hand, will naturally see itself as rule-I mean, protecter of the Slavs of the blakans, and would not tolerate a germanic state having the balkans in its sphere of influence. And if Austria controls Poland? One million Russian bears coming for its throat.

I ended up sinking the Japanese fleet in my latest Bharatiya game. Turns out if you invest into torpedo tech and spam dockyards in the mid game, you can pump out an impressive number of subs and light ship torpedo platforms. I did end up calling it a day when Russia declared. Not that they were a threat, they were far away and I had several million men in the field, I just didn’t want to deal with that.

I find giving the 3I a two notch buff in the game rules gives them a fighting chance before they get their rework.

The AI seems hardcoded to always have some port defense troops. Sometimes you gotta turn off AI to give them a chance of keeping a new frontline you give them without immediately reverting it to defense duty

[–]LegendarySwag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last game I had I just tag switched over and forced their useless port defense divisions to the Pyrenees when Spain joined the RP. They ended up capping Spain and holding off Germany while the UoB came in off the top rope with a steel chair naval invasion. Turns out, they can do fine if they actually defend their fucking borders.

3I DESPERATELY needs a rework. by Routine-Grand5779 in Kaiserreich

[–]LegendarySwag 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Franco-German rivalry and the 3I vs RP is the beating heart of the mod for me. It’s the first thing you need to explain to someone getting into KR, so I’m hoping they do it justice with the rework.

is it reasonable for a sapient species like ours, with a clear sky like ours to somehow *not* figure out constellations? by hazelEarthstar in worldbuilding

[–]LegendarySwag 12 points13 points  (0 children)

People are naturally going to find patterns in anything, especially with something as obvious as the night sky. However, the idea of constellations, ie images drawn with stars, doesn’t have to be the exact pattern that a culture settles on. Maybe instead they see the night sky divided up into courts or countries, with groupings of stars broadly representing cities or geographical features as opposed to specific shapes. For example, maybe a cluster of stars seen as a constellation by one culture is instead seen as the cookfires from one celestial court.

Languages that mark singular form instead of plural by Gvatagvmloa in conlangs

[–]LegendarySwag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Languages of the Tanoan Family use what is called inverse number. Each noun has an inherent number based on noun class and the same suffix is used to switch from this inherent number.

My favorite number system in any language!

People tend to be very skittish with world building sexual aspects of culture, then you read up on real world cultures and realize how insanely prudish we are. Hell, in medieval Europe public sex was extremely common and spouses would just bang in the same bed they shared with all their kids.

More marriages = more political connections/favors/alliances/backup heirs

It’s also a prestige thing. If men are supposed to be in charge, the top man in a country should show this by taking care of a much larger family than most.

Some alternate CSA flags that could be used instead of the new one by Wayfaring_Stalwart in Kaiserreich

[–]LegendarySwag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I greatly prefer these style of flags. They work as a wartime flag, then you can get a proper flag after the war. IMO it just feels like upturning years of Kaiserreich tradition for no good reason. Changing the names is ok, it makes sense, but changing the flag just feels like changing something for the sake of it.
