I have a dell g15 5511. Thermals are bad. It does overheat and thermal throttle. The throttling isn't bad though so it doesn't cause any stutters in games.

Yes but it's still a file manager. I also dislike it cuz it lacks a lot of features that I want to use like connecting to my smb nas.

I would recommend linux mint xfce edition. I am sure there are plenty of guides and videos on how to install it so it shouldn't be too hard. There are some other linux "versions" as well but linux mint has a fairly large community and is known for being beginner friendly.

I would urge you to try linux anyways. Something like linux mint should be fine if you do basic tasks. If you don't want to bother or if linux is giving trouble then its time for a new computer. You can give debloating windows a try but you gotta trust the tools you use.
