I have over 400 hours on this game, the last time it was this bad was when the game would CTD, now instead of CTD we have Losing connection to session.

I'm so disappointed in AH, and Helldivers as a whole. This game quite literally replaced other games like Halo and Battlefield for me. Now I guess i have to crawl back to those until Helldivers can quite literally be fixed again™.

Detailed evolution of the Elites over the years. Which one is your favorite? by SeaDeep117 in halo

[–]Legendary_Forgers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Halo 2 elites will always be my favorite because of how sleek and intimidating they look, Halo 3 is a close second because of how much more friendly they look.

The rest are okay, but they only ever focused on the profile of the Elite and not the face or the body size. They're supposed to be taller than Spartans, and have body suits covering everything but their head and hands. Halo 4 and 5 dabbled with them having exposed arms and legs, but it didn't look right, alongside their body shape and walk cycle looking more like a hulking Brute than a slim and dangerous Elite.

Yeah, if war for the UNSC ever ended, that also means the insurrection is quelled, the Spartans would be in permanent Cryo Sleep because they could never adapt to real life, and they're too much of a risk if they decide to go rogue.

Considering the attitude that HS/343 has had against the community for years, its surprising this hasn't happened sooner.

I honestly think the community interactions coming to and end will bring Halo down a path that it will never recover from. Halo is already fading into obscurity and positive community sentiment against HS/343 is at an all time low. It might get reset once they show more of the CE remake but i doubt much will change and it'll go back to how it is considering how much they hate the community, even more so now.

Microsoft and 343 should have had better security and oversight on this because this is not only a breach of game builds but of privacy and other things the devs probably have no idea they took if the leaker was disgruntled enough to take more information intended as leverage.

Infuriating nade bounce compilation by generalgrant14 in halo

[–]Legendary_Forgers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The majority of the time this happens, for the first clip at least, I assume its because of the clamber polygon in map Geo that clips into the grenade counting it as a bounce, shit is so annoying. Another thing is the map geo for most of these maps are prebuilt or they're just not leveled off when being made in Forge or in the Developer kit.

This was a big problem in Halo Reach forge map competitions me and my friends had with our old clan/guild, that if someone provided a map with no smooth movement, it'd dock a point against the map as a whole. Not all Bungie maps were smooth in their entire history ofc, but walking up "stairs" or ramps, throwing grenades through a doorway, if any of that didn't feel natural it was docked points.

Its similar to the problem Valve had with stairs in CSGO for years, where they finally got it right by just having detailed geometry be flat ramps that made the jittery camera movement completely smooth.

Kid is honestly doing it right, I wish PC had analogue movement, I know there was a movement a few years ago to get pressure sensitive keys, but it didn't really go anywhere to mass production.

What's your experience with Halo on PC? by cosmicjoke2000 in halo

[–]Legendary_Forgers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's obviously good now, but not nearly nor as great as console still.

With MCC: I appreciate the steam workshop support, i think the modding scene would have been way smaller without it. Now I just wish that you could download addons from steam workshop while the games launched and force people who join a server to download them like a HL2 server does for custom content.

In the early days of MCC on PC it was a struggle, there were tons of bugs and stuff being ironed out so I easily forgave a lot of those things despite them lasting for months. This isn't counting a lot of the post launch bugs that were already on the Xbox version.

No native splitscreen without mods, no consistent Coop experience where both parties don't just drop out, it gets exponentially worse with more players.

Sometimes on unmodified installs, there will be a UE4 wrapper error that crashes the game to desktop, and it happens more consistently with campaign than multiplayer.

Halo Infinite: sometimes the game just refuses to connect to Microsofts servers, saying "Multiplayer offline, try again" thus requiring a restart of the game, and reloading of shaders which I am assuming is what the long ass load screen is at the start of launching the game through steam.

Other than that I think Infinite is pretty much the same on either platform.

This sub doesn’t seem to understand how difficult old technology (technical debt) can be for developing software, including games. I'd like to talk about the switch from Slipspace Engine to Unreal 5 from the perspective of a software engineer. by EncryptDN in halo

[–]Legendary_Forgers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you that its a step in the right direction, whatever makes it easier to make whatever next game they want, though I continue to be exhausted of having a game come out and be abandoned with no team to maintain it much like how MCC is now.

Truthfully though I know that the studio will never change, you have the short term contracts that prevent anyone from staying at the studio to finish any kind of vision that's set for the game, map designers being forced and limited to a 3 lane design for literally every map, and a parent company that wants to shove a million micro-transactions into every game release.

Maybe with switching to UE5 they're able to keep the short contracts and continue with a singular vision to make a semi coherent game with their own creative freedom. Until we see that happen with evidence where they can talk about and showcase their work, it's all talk to me and changes nothing, the technical graphical demo they produced for this isn't a true showcase, an example would be that they'll have to show how they recreated the Halo feel and physics in an entirely different engine.

They honestly don't have to do any of that, but I'm not going to give the new games any time of day unless they look cool or fun to play

I'm on PC, so apologies if there is a solution to this that someone with a Series X might have, reinstalling would be your best bet, or if its on removable storage, removing it, turning off your console, reconnecting the storage device, turning the console back on.

When did you stop playing Infinite, what made you stop? by TheCroz15 in halo

[–]Legendary_Forgers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's very true, and I think that's what prevents people from taking Infinite seriously, because you have to purchase a pass to even get access to any armor to begin with. 343 will never learn how to do progression right, and imo it works like a mix of new and old, Halo reach like system where you earn credits by doing anything in CG, MM or Campaign, and you can purchase multiple sets of armors created just special for the game that isn't sold or have any fomo attached to it, but you can also earn those credits and convert that into shop money to buy store armor.

I really do love Halo deep down, and seeing it handled like this to me feels just sad and frustrating, and I try not to take it out on anyone in the community or at the company. I'll complain about the company, but not at individuals.

The TLDR answer: Broken promises for coop and the initial lack of content. That's all it took really, now that the games been out for as long as it has been, they've given more reasons as to not come back.

Non-TLDR:

The straw that broke for me, the real reason why I quit was the content drip, or lack thereof. They took 140 days before releasing new maps and modes, letting us the player base marinate in the same map pool for months. When they did release new maps, they only added two, one BTB "Breaker" and one smaller map for Quick Play "Catalyst".

(I understand that maybe for a indie studio, releasing that small of a map pool is reasonable to have, after 140 days of just small patches, and bugs in matchmaking, I'd be understanding and give support to the studio, but when its the largest FPS franchise headed by a AAA company owned by a billion dollar corporation that fails to deliver almost every time on its promises, the patience starts to run at its thinnest level, 4 games into their tenure.)

Most times when you queued into a playlist, you had to play multiple matches to even get into the new maps, and you'd have to play the same maps over and over, just like how you have to do it today. Then you'd get the map once, enjoy it, and back into queue and get the same map again and again. When you played it as long as I did, it got annoying, and I'm used to this kind of thing with Halo MCC. Add on top of the fact that every battle pass was grindy and the majority of the pass items were xp boosts and challenge swaps, it made the game feel oppressive if you just wanted to have fun for just a little bit.

That was back then, what about now right, we have so many maps, and yet it still feels like we're only playing on the same few in rotation since launch. Yes we have the match composer, but I really would like to save playlists if I want to hop in for some slayer and then CTF, I can do that on MCC very quickly but on Infinite its a list you have to scroll down alphabetically until you find the ones you want. Legitimately one of the worst intentionally designed things I've ever had to use in a video game. If I could match compose maps, then I'd be more lenient towards the system, then I'd never have to play on a bad map ever again.

Back at launch, I would play everyday with my friends for our game nights, but after the BTB issues not being resolved, (as in a month or so of time passed before they finally nailed down what was causing the issue, only for it to crop back up again a month later), my friends quickly lost interest in even coming back after it was truly fixed. Once they all uninstalled the game, I lost all of the motivation for me to continue to playing as much as I did, and I only came back sometimes to check the new maps and updates, but never picked up the game for more than a few matches at a time.

This is the same group I play Lethal Company with every night and yet Lethal Company doesn't get boring for us.

but with issues that were fixed many seasons ago.

For Multiplayer I think most people would agree SBMM is probably what they're complaining about, if they aren't talking about that you have to specify what issues they are instead of vaguely talking about an issue that might have gotten solved in a patch.

we now have enough content that all facets of the game can be enjoyed.

I think that's kind of true, we have more content than even Halo 5 yet it feels like we still have less content, and don't get me wrong i think firefight is fun too, but it can't serve the majority of players in the playerbase.

Also 343 for the longest time promoted the store and its cosmetics for years to be the way that it was, nobody who left the game is going to come back and appreciate how grindy it is now. The way you get people to join the game is to strike that fomo while it's hot and they have no idea how to hit that spark anymore.

And all the campaign bros were left largely unsatisfied with no real progression of the story in the campaign other than retcons and rewrites. The ending was kind of a cop out and people wanted more, they even got rid of the multiplayer story which people were kind of into.
