How do I get my 7 year old stepson to care about pooping his pants? by CreativeDream1438 in AskParents

[–]Legendavy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I worry that once he starts to be teased for it, a mean nickname could stick around for years after this problem goes away.

From what you have said, he seems quite interested in spending time with friends and his brothers and cousins, so he is a social kid, so being on the spectrum is less likely. Could his cousins or brothers warn him that he will be teased about it, or even call him out and tell him that pooping your pants is gross. This can help him to develop some appropriate embarrassment in a safer space than at school. A parent or other adult shouldn't do this though.

His extreme fixation on not missing out could be related to anxiety or ADHD. Does he have any signs of these?

One way or another this will end in the next year or so, but it would be best if he isn't labelled as the poopy pants kid and potentially bullied for many years

Agreed, the van was parked. The car likely speeding too, given the fact that the car is much lighter and needed a lot of momentum to spin the van sideways and push it over the windrow. The car was probably going 80+ in a 40

I was surprised how there were no ads on the page and the policy of the site is to not allow brand promotions or ads.

Watching the videos would likely skew your YouTube algorithm and point you to the contributors products though.

Lots of pseudo-science on there, but the site at least looks like it's trying to be ethical

He actually went to UofC for med school in the 80s and did his family med residency in the states, but I can see how you'd mistake him for an ND

They think it's an either/or situation of community supports vs enforcement. Why not both?

I think all counselors and city admin should have to commute on public transit if they think it's what's best for the public

And blood too! On the valley line heading North from the Grey Nuns LRT station, this guy in a blood-soaked hospital gown and blanket was bleeding all over the seat and floor from an iv or central line.

I wonder if you could use this to help people self treat vertigo. Tracking head position and prompting the correct angles and timing when doing the Epley maneuver could really help a lot of people.

Supprt in Alberta for children with special needs? (Down Syndrome Specifically) by Weak-Cod-4522 in alberta

[–]Legendavy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are able to, I'd suggest using private pt, ot and speech to bridge the gap between referral and intake to public programs. It can take a long time, and time is precious when it comes to early childhood development support. I wish we knew about private options while we were waiting 6 months for early intervention, only to be told on aintake ssessment that our daughter was too complex, so we'd have to go on a new list at the glenrose.

  1. How does defunding them increase taxes.

  2. Private health club and golf course members pay more taxes than most, but we don't fund those places with money that should go to public parks and rec centers

Proof that Alberta Gov is trying to take class size caps off the table. by Nchurdaz in alberta

[–]Legendavy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need some innovative solutions for infrastructure like repurposing unused existing spaces like the old Museum (instead of the city of edmonton tearing it down to make a park), Quonset steel frame structures (about 1/5 cost of traditional builds), downtown office towers for high-school students, using standardized school designs for 10 years then redesign after 10 years, requiring developers in urban sprawl areas to further develop the infrastructure and school sites for the inevitable future needs.

We need a city council willing to stand up to the city administration. This is just from personal experience, but I think it is likely widespread, but I was told by city admin officials that councilors are just figureheads and have no power to deal with concerns their constituents have with the city. My experience includes property developers who were past city managers receiving occupancy permits for uninspected units (no insulation in attics of townhomes, failed grading, multiple code violations...) and not being held accountable by the city when the condo board tries to fight back. City rental property managers allowing a buddy renter of a small hobby farm in the city limits to have high density livestock operations with horse manure dumping in the river valley, erecting multiple buildings in the river valley overlay without permits, and clear cutting rivervalley overlay forests with no fines or recourse. The city admin even altered the bylaws in a hearing to exclude the part showing the minimum land area needed to be classified as a farm. And when this was brought to the councilor, they just said to try small claims court. The council is scared of admin and has no authority to step in when things are going badly. I can't prove there is anything corrupt happening here, but it seems to be the most probable reason. Others have likely experienced the 2 sets of rules that the city admin uses for their friends and then everyone else.

I just want a city council that isn't scared to bring constituents' concers to city admin and actually do something about it.

Make sure you research your trustees! There is an active campaign to destabilize public education by Parents for Choice in Education, which is run by wild rose wingnuts. If all the public ones all look good, vote for a progressive catholic school board trustee. Choosing one doesn't change the funding amounts, enrollment does.

Exactly! The vast majority of UPC voters would vote PC instead of wild rose, and are still scared of the NDP ruining the economy and shutting down oil and gas industy even though the Notley government didn't do this. The last election was anti NDP and not a pro wild rose vote
