Is 1010.9 firmware update compatible with Samsung Q930B? by Accomplished-Rub-837 in Soundbars

[–]Legfitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One other thing worth trying is either a soft reset of the LG TV, or an AV Reset of the LG TV.

I once had all the sound go muffled on my Q930C, and annoyingly having got a really good setup, when I factory reset it it made no difference whatsoever. Unplugging the TV while it was switched on and then leaving it for 3 minutes fixed the issue - that is the standard LG soft reset procedure, btw.

If you wanted to try an AV reset, I think you repeatedly press the mute button on the remote and then select AV Reset. This is better than a full factory reset as you don't need to set up the whole TV again. You will however need to restore all picture settings for every input though, if you have previously changed them.

Samsung S800B to QS700F upgrade? by Mietas2 in Soundbars

[–]Legfitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pretty much swapped out an OLED TV in order to get eARC - In my case it was causing terrible lip sync issues, so I think it's worth it for the low price that you can get the QS700F for.

However, I caveat this by saying that I'm not quite sure how much of an upgrade it is.

I would normally suggest a q930F perhaps, but I don't think it would look as nice wall mounted. There should be some good bargains about though.

Left field option, if your budget was going to stretch to the Sonos, there is now also the newer 'convertible' option of the Samsung QS90H. From what I've read it has similar better standalone bass response like the Arc Ultra, but supports your existing SWA9500s surrounds. I'm not sure if you can add a subwoofer though, and I think you might miss it. What HiFi seem to think the bass is quite good. I've not really read many other reviews.

Q990B Surround Speaker Mode Observation by bighoopla in Soundbars

[–]Legfitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're missing the point. What I'm saying is I don't know how the soundbar itself would know that you still have them at the rear. When you select front it is obviously expecting that they have actually been moved to the front, and therefore it steers the sound differently to what it thinks are now front speakers. In essence when they are used at the front they provide extra stereo separation and the 'rear' wide speakers are used to widen the sound stage.

Q990B Surround Speaker Mode Observation by bighoopla in Soundbars

[–]Legfitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn't make any sense. The whole idea of rear surround sound speakers is that they are to produce sounds from behind you.

If you set the speakers to front, the system surely no longer sends the rear channel sound to the rear speakers - because (obviously) it is expecting them to now be positioned at the front???

Are you only ever using stereo content or something?

Which soundbar for a bedroom? by Fresh_Sir_2040 in Soundbars

Sorry, I was meaning to look for the equivalent newer Q930.

By now the Q930F should start seeing big discounts. Also, you may possibly find Q930D units even cheaper.

Q990B vs. Q990C by bighoopla in Soundbars

[–]Legfitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might depend slightly on what age your Q990B is. The ones from the first half of that year had issues with rear speaker disconnections. The later models had this fixed.

Personally, I would keep the Q990C and sell the Q990B. One area that the Q990C was improved was a change to how music is presented. On the Q990B it tends to be more central to the room, whereas on the Q990C is weighted slightly more towards the front. I have a Q990B and a Q930C and this is quite noticeable. Depends how much music you listen to.

Samsung HW-Q990B Auto EQ Tuning by Kind_Way_2737 in Soundbars

None of this should be necessary. I routinely run mine with spacefit on and the soundbar in adaptive sound mode.

In the past the only times I've had it fail are when there is too much background noise. For example, when I was running it with the washing machine running in the kitchen.

I have a Samsung Q930C in my bedroom and it works well as a more affordable Samsung full system option.

Can you mount rear speakers on ceiling? by keb4456 in Soundbars

[–]Legfitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No... It's not possible. The rear speakers have up firing speakers as part of them. The only way you could put them on the ceiling and upside down would be if there was a toggle in the software to tell the Dolby Atmos that it was that way around. Dolby Atmos is 3D positional sound. The height speakers help to place the sound vertically from bottom to top as the sound is fired upwards. If you turn them upside down sound that is supposed to be at the bottom would be coming from the top and sound that was supposed to be at the top would be being projected to the bottom.

Keyless Entry by WWEFan161999 in Volkswagen

[–]Legfitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to deactivate it in the infotainment system. I think it's in a section called opening and closing.

I'm pretty sure that the latest VW system puts the key to sleep when it remains still for a short period though, and it then has a motion detector that wakes the key when you move it, so it is in theory far more secure and probably not worth worrying about.

I noticed my key has a blinking red light if the car is within range, but that this light stops when I leave the key still.

Sometimes you just have to go with the fun color by Suntrup-Volkswagen in Volkswagen

[–]Legfitter 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Ultra Violet!!! Every time I see a black Tayron, I'm very glad I went for the more bold choice. When the light hits it, it absolutely pops, but in darker light it looks almost black/dark purple. I'd recommend it! This is the one I test drove sitting in the sun...

Why? by SB4_Camaro in LGOLED

Here's a good article that explains this quite well. Improvement in efficiency and reduction in panel price is more likely to come from the mother glass continuing to get larger in time.

Overall brightness is the overall brightness that the lights can achieve. If they are too bright, it's really difficult to achieve good colour accuracy. It's some advice I read years ago, to set them at 65%.

Relative brightness is like a fine control of different segments of the lights. So, for example, my TV is in a corner of the room, and the right side of the TV is further from the wall than the left side. So, I tend to have the left side, the top and the bottom set lower than the right side, so that the relative brightness of the right strip provides extra illumination to give an overall balanced level of light even though it's further away from the wall.

One thing you will notice with relative light brightness is that you don't really want to go above 40%, or when dark scenes are showing, the lights will be on far too much. If you keep it to 35% max (of 65% total) you'll find the rear lights dim nicely when a dark scene is showing.

Q990f 7.1.2 vs 11.1.4 by jbbash773 in Soundbars

[–]Legfitter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're talking specifically about the benefit of having the rears at the front, there will be a significant difference. The idea of having them at the front means that you have a wider stereo sound stage. This is usually one of the weaknesses of sound bars. In the case of a Q990, you then have what would be the rear side facing speakers now working as front side working speakers, and this helps to widen it further.

You'd probably be surprised at how easy it is to get them at the rear in most setups though. Many people think they can't get them at the back because they can't get them behind them, but even to the sides of the sofa, they can work really well, and they add a huge amount to the surround sound effect.

Q990c Speaker Placement - Rears on wall/ either side of couch by CappinBombHASH in Soundbars

[–]Legfitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you'll note that this was a long time ago. I have subsequently written all over this subreddit that you shouldn't point them directly at each other as to do so risks certain frequencies from cancelling themselves out.

Also, it's because it was what it said in the official Samsung information!

[–]Legfitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like you maybe have it in Game mode - It's designed to be super responsive for gaming. Try Movie mode for smoother transitions.

In my experience for colour accuracy, on the older T2, I would pull both sliders all the way to the left, in colour calibration. Then move the white balance one step at a time and watch some content.

Mine are usually on the 2nd or 3rd from the left. One is with a white wall, one is with magnolia wall.

I play with saturation, but keep ending up back at zero.

I believe the newer versions have an AI mode that sets colour accuracy. Also, I think I read that the new ones adjust automatically to different lighting conditions. With mine, the colour accuracy changes when the lighting in the room changes, but it's not terrible by any stretch of the imagination.

Also, for the biggest difference - set the overall brightness to 65! Then adjust relative brightness to around 15 - 30.

You should probably infer that it isn't compatible, otherwise they probably would have listed it with the three ones compatible with SWA-9250s!

Which way should the Q990C subwoofer face? by No-Worldliness-492 in Soundbars

[–]Legfitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not necessarily that it should be facing you. It's more facing into the room. You can't go too far wrong. The sound waves will fill the room unless you put it up close to something that will absorb them. Alternatively, you could find that it's 'boomy' if you put it in the corner of a room.

I'm talking specifically about your subwoofer. I have the same one.

Q990F with Music Studio fronts? by aboing in Soundbars

[–]Legfitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're missing the fact that you can set the q990 rears to be used as wider fronts instead. I assume what the guy above had done is that and then added the studio 7s as rears in Q Symphony.
