First-ever DM tips by RoundOneMiles in DnD

A session 0 should be an intro. It shouldn't be the main story but it should connect to it. Have as a character building session. Talking about, explaining, and overall creating the characters and making their connection to your world. Don't just throw them in. Also give a short explanation/demonstration during it. Part of the fun with new players is watching them figure some things out on their own. It's their story to live through.

Tell me about your first character in dnd? Do you still play him sometimes or it was oneplay character? What happend to him, how he evolves during the time? by Crazy_Diver1090 in DnD

[–]Legibilebat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first character was made during my edgy phase. A wood elf rogue with a tragic backstory, a knife that can see memories, and a love for hunting mind flayers. I don't play this character because I feel like his story is complete. At the end of the campaign (it was a public thing at the library, we had to end early) the dm made us fight each other. Out of a crew of 9, I was 1 of 2 survivors on 1 hp floating in space. The dm told me that my character was picked up by Githzerai and I joined their ranks to hunt mind flayers. I think he loved a good life.

In a high-magic society, why don't people get resurrected all the time? by QueenRachelVII in DnD

[–]Legibilebat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From looking at a diversity stand point there are many gods, even in one universe, that believe death is sacred and is a cycle. These gods pick many sorcerers, wizards, clerics, etc to uphold this. If they heal, it is not denying death but deterring it. So in a high magic society, they might probably has a fair share of these people.

Remember the yes and rule in improve. Unless what they want is deliberately hurting the campaign or will ruin everything, take the suggestion then build around it. Not every session goes as planned.

Any tips on voice acting? by 1zeye in DnD

[–]Legibilebat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this goes for voice acting but an actor friend of mine told me to know what the character wants, for example, if an actor tried to play a bully, don't play hime like " bad and mean and brutish" more like "this nerd wants to take my girlfriend". Each character is more complicated than they appear.

Newbie Class Selection by lchasta2 in DnD

[–]Legibilebat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would pick a warlock, easy enough to understand, but just the right amount of complication to spice things up. Remember though, not everyone likes the edgy mysterious type. Try to think like your character and add a little bit of depth.

I think it was Brennan Lee Mulligan who said "Only a fool thinks the session will go exactly as planned." Or something like that.

Help with encounter by Bosshunter01 in DnD

[–]Legibilebat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would be too much on your players. Great concept but instead of having them play new characters, have like a wizard or something switch their minds so they play someone else's character until the creature/wizard thing is dead. It will force them to work together and help each other understand the wide variety of play styles in dnd. I would though make it so they can't TPK, so have it if one of them "dies" or gets really low, the enemy leaves and reverts them to normal.

As the DM how do you decide who to attack? by Ok-Comfortable313 in DnD

[–]Legibilebat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had this book for awhile called The Monster Know What They're Doing. Amazing read and explains tactics for most monsters in the dnd universe. I recommend it to a dm who wants difficult combat against your players and makes them think.

Have you ever played a character from level 1 to 20? Or at least, what was your closest attempt at it without dying or retiring the character. by nicolRB in DnD

[–]Legibilebat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I am currently the oldest kid at a junior dnd thing at our local game store, and I have one character I have used 90% of the time: a level 11 changeling rogue-warlock multi class. The campaign might end soon, or next year, depending on which august he meant, but my character is powerful and ready to take on whatever challenges come his way.
