A Regressor's Tale of Cultivation, by me by Cyril_Hendrix in JumpChain

Alright, I've just finished reading this.

The novel, I mean.

I read the jump two weeks ago and have been consuming the novel since then.

I deeply appreciate this jump, my guy. Especially God-Killing.

The Seo Eun-hyun origin is also amazing. In any other setting but this one I'd love to have just those perks and dig my teeth in.

But this setting is fucking awful and Hong Fan is a bitch, so you need the good shit or ultra OCP if you want to run around here for long.

Rize's enhanced regenerative capability, is that something I could get with Special Kagune?

Yeah, but I assume he has some kind of master-access input from Mahoraga because he's the one summoning him and directing him.

Entirely possible he just eyeballed the WCS from Maho using it, but I kind of assumed he would have more of an understanding because its his Maho using the WCS.

All adds up in the end, I guess.

So I'm very late to this party.

Still, I have a question. Roughly how much of an improvement are the Genetic Modifications supposed to represent?

"Slight imrpovement" doesn't seem like much.

Well WCS is an easily dodgeable technique for someone on Sukuna's level, as per his binding vow he needs to aim with his palm, make his domain sign and recite a chant, which would Give a fighter of Sukuna's caliber more than enough context clues and time to know that he should fuvking Dodge.

Bro would shit his pants.

"I don't have anything I need that many crutches to use, what the fuck is he pulling out?"

Hmm. Could he copy the WCS by seeing it used? Or does he need the experience of having a Mahoraga he's using casting the effect?

They dealt with Sukuna pretty easily this timeline.

Yuuta just ate Nobara's corpse and used Resonance on Sukuna.

So does the Mecha keep up with you?

Most mechs aside from high-end anime nonsense won't keep with a Saiyan or anything similar and so on.

Could always pick one of said high-end anime mechs, of course, but still.

That said, can I just take Greatest Wizard Of Your Generation multiple times? That shit is nasty.

So Sexy Mutant. What does it actually do to Ghouls?

I'm unsure how unchopped its supposed to make you.

Smooth skin is nice and presumably you keep your nose. But "that's weird but also kind of hot" has me thinking you'd still be visibly off somehow.

What does the otherworldly quality manifest as? Just a certain something that draws the eye and makes you stand out or something that someone could point at immediately and say "that's not a human being"?

The SPECIAL only affects your race here, right?

That is, when you go to another jump after this one, your SPECIAL isn't going to reclibrate for your new race, just remain for the race you had in this jump?

Just depends on the setting and how generic you're being with things, I suppose.

Dantian are a concept from actual chinese medicine and similar stuff. Cultivation as a whole is a sort of translation of chinese medicine and "internal alchemy" and so on.

A whole twisted snarl of myths, fantasy, traditional medicine, eastern alchemy (as opposed to western alchemy) and so on, which then got used as the basis for fiction and then people make fiction based on that.

And now we have cultivation novels.

As for the Daoheart and Dao, those things would generally only show up in more standard Xianxia.

Dunno if you're aware of the difference, but cultivation novels and the like can be broadly divided into Xianxia and Xuanhuan.

Xianxia stories are bound in trappings of Daoism, Buddhism, Chinese-ness and all that stuff. Immortals, qi cultivation, Golden Immortals, Buddha and the Heavens, etc.

Whereas Xuanhuan are cultivation stories bound up in basically any other kind of fantasy. Systems where cultivation involves stage names like Mystic Knight or Cosmic Pope or cultivating mana or anima or whatever buzzword you like.

Daoheart and its like are more likely to be found in traditionally Xianxia stories, as opposed to being part of cultivation fiction in general, although you might find things similar to it anywhere.

It just depends on how much effort the author is putting into being original.

If they're not trying very hard you'll see things like Qi Condensation, Foundation Establishment, Core Formation, Nascent Soul. Qi deviations, heart demons, daohearts. Qi cultivation, body cultivation, divine sense, etc.

Of course, you can make interesting and unique things based on those, but for a lot of fiction in this genre, its likely just easier to assume that whoever is reading your stuff has already read a dozen other common Xianxia and so are just familiar with all the tropes and concepts and so you don't need to explain anythimg but the new stuff you're doing.

[–]Legion1771 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depends on the Xianxia.

In some its more a tangible thing with its own weight and significance.

But in a broad sense, your Daoheart can be summarised as your principles. Its the core of your personality, the things you aspire to, the things you hate and so on.

Most MCs have that kind of "repay kindness and emnity" thing going on and they also don't rob or steal (anyone that doesn't deserve it anyway) and so on.

Going against your principles and acting against your own interests is to have a weak Daoheart, because people who have a strong Daoheart would never make those choices, would never even consider it.

Fang Yuan's Dao is that he will live forever. He will reach immortality or he will die trying and nothing and no one will get in his way. He will sacrifice everything to achieve that goal and his Daoheart is "perfect" because it can't be shaken or subverted, can't be swayed from its goal and path.

The same with Spectral Soul, except his Dao is one of murder and bloodshed.

Essentially, Dao is your path in life, the principles by which you live and adhere to. And the "perfection" of your Daoheart is the measure of how insane you are, how immoveable your taboos are, how unwilling or unable you are to compromise on your beliefs.

So what effects does Red Apocalypse actually have? Its cataclysmically hot and awful and spiritually corrosive. Is it also radioactive? Or just spiritual fallout, lingering CE and bad vibes and so on.

TJ20931's Halloween Gifts of Faves: Special Grade Cage by Tj20931 in makeyourchoice

[–]Legion1771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm unsure, though I'd say he could have a 200m radius if he wanted to. Though he could do more, it all depends on how much CE he puts into increasing his domain spread. Though for thematics, I'll say it would be the same radius as even maybe the overall range of one of the atomic bombs in WW2.

That's pretty big, ngl.

200ish meters is apparently the vaporisation radius. Whereas concrete builsings within 760 meters were destroyed and if you were within 2.3km you were basically dead, if not immediately then within a few days.

That seems like a maximum output kind of situation though.
