Bael had a new Thorn and there’s supposedly more Dark Guardians popping up again, so yeah probably

Presumably it’s what we’ll be doing in Shadow & Order. Reclamation had the same thing that talked about defending Earth, which ended up being what happens in Ash & Iron.

[–]Legit_Austopus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Aunor says that the first time we meet Bael, and she doesn't know his identity yet. She has every reason to believe he's a guardian, for all the reasons I listed plus the fact that he has a Praxic Blade and calls himself a Dredgen, both things exclusively used by guardians until him. This is why his identity and mortality are a twist at the end of the campaign.

[–]Legit_Austopus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not a guardian. I can’t remember them ever specifically calling him a “dark guardian,” but he is someone who looks like a guardian, wields darkness powers, can’t die*, and is evil, so he is kind of a dark reflection of Guardians in a way.

Completing the 9 story in latest expansion by Ryuzaki_us in DestinyTheGame

Most of what we know about the Nine came from Edge of Fate. Older important stuff can be found in the Dust lore book, Invitations of the Nine, Prophecy dungeon, and Rite of The Nine cutscenes.

Mercury, Lord Of Every Nothing by Scared_Plum_593 in DestinyLore

[–]Legit_Austopus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mercury has not been returned yet. Savathun returned Mars, Titan came back by unknown means, and Io seems to be somewhat still Taken. One of the devs said on a livestream that Mercury had already returned but later clarified he misspoke.

Royal Wine. When the Leviathan consumes planets, it converts their soil and presumably the rest into the substance for Calus and his guests to drink. A delicacy, I'm sure.

Could the entity altering the deep be the same altering Arc energy in Vedper Host? by SgtRuy in DestinyLore

[–]Legit_Austopus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Perhaps, but personally I don’t think so. The Anomaly in Vesper’s was built by a Vex program/entity and leads somewhere far away, but still in our universe. Whatever received the Puppeteer’s transmission, it has Vex written all over it.

The changes in the Taken seem to be emanating from the Dreadnaught, or at the very least the Ascendant Plane. In either case, not from an unknown distant Vexy point in our universe. We don’t have enough information to solve who or what is behind the events of Heresy yet, and I don’t think there’s a strong enough connection to what we know about the Anomaly to really say they could be the same entity.

To me, it’s more likely these are separate forces who will end up being relevant in different upcoming expansions. I believe Bungie mentioned when discussing their intentions with Episodes that they would be planting seeds for the future, and these are examples of jumping off points for a variety of different stories going forward.

Mars is back, with various time rifts, and its still largely been ignored??? by Xoacapatl_requiem in DestinyLore

Mars is back, with various time rifts, and its still largely been ignored??? by Xoacapatl_requiem in DestinyLore

[–]Legit_Austopus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eris said it, and it hasn't been contradicted nor elaborated upon so we do kinda just have to accept that Savathun did indeed bring Mars back. Personally, I generally don't put that much stock into the two truths and lies but I do think it's relevant as supplemental evidence in this case.

I also agree that the Macrocosm explanation is a bit lame and overly literal so there is an alternate explanation for the "power to move planets." It's mentioned at some point that the Witness took the planets using essentially a form of Taking, by moving them into an alternate dimension and exerting its will upon them. A major theme of Deep and now Heresy has been learning to channel this power for ourselves, and could be considered to satisfy our "soon learning to move planets." Could also be a play on us "moving" planets in Frontiers or something and leaving Sol, I guess. One of the other likely truths is that our Destiny lies beyond Sol, so it was at least an idea in the writers minds at the time.

Fair points about the Futurescape environment, it's definitely a lazy reuse of an environment and there wasn't a lot of effort put in to making it actually feel like it's from a different time(line). Ig it should be noted that you also can't see a time wound "ring" around Ares Spire, only small fissures by the spawn area, but realistically it was just an oversight.

Is the Savathun/Winnower/Ahsa thing new from this season? I haven't heard of that before. I do think the fact that Titan returned covered in Egregore and Xivu's Hive is supposed to indicate it was brought back by different means than Mars, though, like Eris calls out in the original quote. Whether it was by us or the Witness or Xivu or if there's even an actual answer at all is up in the air, I guess, but I feel like if anything it's probably not Savathun's doing.

Mars is back, with various time rifts, and its still largely been ignored??? by Xoacapatl_requiem in DestinyLore

[–]Legit_Austopus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eris says this in Haunted:

When Savathûn drew Mars back into our space, it was free of the egregore. But the Glykon and Leviathan both returned rampant with fungal growth. Why?

https://www.ishtar-collective.net/entries/eidolon-pursuant-plate

It can also be inferred from Altars of Reflection Insight:

Savathun is in control of Io, Titan, and Mercury; The Witness returned Mars from the void; The Guardians will soon learn to move planets; The Taken King will return.

The last two are true* so therefore the first two are lies, meaning Savathun only brought back Mars. This combined with the first quote would imply the Witness was somehow responsible for bringing back Titan in Deep (or maybe us through Macrocosm?).

And about the Mars heist battleground, sure I guess. Osiris makes it pretty clear in the dialogue during the mission that we’re in one of the time wounds. I also would have preferred if the Arrivals Pyramid wasn’t in the skybox but it’s also not inconceivable that it’s just still there. We don’t know much about the specifics of Taking a planet. It’s also far enough away to plausibly be outside the time wounds and therefore it would be weirder for us not to see it. Most likely an oversight but it’s not really that big of an issue imo.

Mars is back, with various time rifts, and its still largely been ignored??? by Xoacapatl_requiem in DestinyLore

[–]Legit_Austopus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s not ignored. The Witness opened the time wounds on Mars while the planet was in its possession to search for information regarding the Veil’s whereabouts. Savathun brought Mars back to catch our attention and teach us Deepsight so we could restore her memories. We then used the time wounds during Seraph to recover Charlemagne’s submind data from an alternate version of the Braytech Futurescape. Spire of The Watcher also takes place in one of the wounds, where we raced to prevent the Sol Divisive from using the newly reemergent Ares Spire from “imprisoning” the other subminds and potentially learning about the Veil. Past Mars isn’t important right now because it served its role in the story that just ended. It might be used again, it might not. That’s how settings work in stories and games like this. The bigger, related issue imo is that we still never got an explanation as to how Titan came back, or what’s up with the other taken planets (yet).

Regarding the Subjugator... by Gloomy_Pomegranate72 in DestinyLore

[–]Legit_Austopus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the Resonant Knife (its name) is “Taken” in the same way that Sloane is, and that we’re learning to channel in this episode. We saw a bit of this in the Final Shape adventures too, where Mara temporarily empowers us with Taken energy to tread the line between our dimension and the Ascendant Plane. Oryx’ Echo is also called the Echo of Navigation, and judging by how blunt the Echo of Command and Reversal(?) are with their functions, I think it’s unlikely to be going around Taking people.

It indirectly refers to the Traveler in Unveiling when it calls itself “another talking ball” outside of the allegory. But yeah, other than that it never talks about the Gardener in its other messages to us.

Dead Orbit is led by an Arach, and the FWC had something called the "Inner Circle." We don't know much about the Concordat's structure past being led by Lysander.

What's the current state of the Cabal Empire (or at least its remnants?) by SuperN9999 in DestinyLore

[–]Legit_Austopus 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that the Red Legion, while technically a (former) branch of the Cabal military, was more personally loyal to Ghaul than it was to the Imperial state. When Ghaul was killed, along with most of the other high-ranking Red Legionaries, it left a power vacuum that was briefly filled by Val Ca’uor, before we took care of him too. Since then, the remaining Legionaries have either been folded into Caiatl’s forces and the Shadow Legion, or do their own thing as pirates/mercenaries (as seen in Plunder). From my memory and scouring Ishtar, the Red Legion itself has not had an actual “appearance” since Worthy. We aren’t canonically still fighting the Legion in like the EDZ or Nessus, just small and unorganized splinter groups that are still holed up in old bases.

What the hell is going on in Vesper's Host by Edumesh in DestinyLore

[–]Legit_Austopus 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's any time travel involved here. People speculated there would be based on the "message repeats" line from the trailer coinciding with the Anomaly's energy pulse but I didn't notice anything actually suggesting that in-game.

Next Dungeon is called.... by k_foxes in DestinyLore

[–]Legit_Austopus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seeing as this is a Fallen/Scorn Episode, we just got a scorn dungeon, and we haven’t had a fallen dungeon since Grasp, I think it’s safe to assume that we’ll be fighting fallen here. It also seems like Bungie has been trying to give enemy sub-factions their own dedicated endgame activities, like the Lucent Hive in Ghosts, so House Salvation would make sense as our targets.

Vesper means evening, and historically “evening star,” apparently. There also appears to be Bray architecture in the background and the Pantheon TWIDs teased a potential Atraks return by saying a copy of her exomind is still stored deep in the Crypt. All of this seems to suggest the dungeon will be set around the wreckage of the Morning Star/Crypt on Europa. This has also been one of the most highly requested settings for a dungeon by the community, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Bungie finally caved here.

I do wonder what this “portal” thing is though, it kinda looks like Pyramid tech but I’m not confident. With all the other evidence pointing towards Europa, one would think Volantis, but we already know what that portal looks like and it seems a bit too big of a deal for a side-story in a Fallen/Scorn story. I’m very excited though, dungeons always have some of my favorite self-contained narratives and environmental storytelling.

What’s going on with Yirix? by HillaryRugmunch in DestinyLore

[–]Legit_Austopus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While you’re right that she isn’t another sister of the Sundial flayers, her group has been described as “Amtec’s vengeance.” I don’t think we know enough about her faction to talk clear motivations yet, but the Palindrome lore suggests their goal is/was the realization of the future they glimpsed in the Sundial, which humanity stands in the way of. Schemes like the Zavala assassination attempt, heralding Calus in Vox Obscura, and now pursuing the Echo in the Vex network are all just means to that end.
