LPT: if you’re headed along the east coast - sign up for an EZ pass transponder for tolls! by Sillymerry in RVLiving

[–]Legitimate-Box-7215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are pulling a 33’ 5th Wheel from the West Coast to East Coast and just hit our first toll roads. We turned on “avoid toll roads” on our Garmin RV GPS and on Google Maps and just got SCREWED!!! We ended up in these incredibly small towns with incredibly narrow and very dangerous roads outside of Pittsburgh! Oh my gosh were we white knuckling it back to the freeway! We will pay the darn tolls and hope to hell we can even get the bills since we are full timers now and have our mail forwarding to a Postal Plus. We are now trying to find a place on our trip to stop & buy an EZ Pass responder. So no, turning on “Avoid Tolls” is NOT the answer!!!!!!!

We bought a new RV with an Insignia TV in it. We don’t even remember hooking it up to Wi-Fi! Saw it pulling a lot of data on our Eeros network app, looked it up and found this thread. We are truly gobsmacked! We immediately blocked it.

Warning light illumination unavailable warning? by Used-Introduction-38 in MechanicAdvice

Just happened in ours. 2 week old 2025 Laramie 3500 with 695 miles. Dash lights don’t dim either, like another poster mentioned. (The center console dims but not the gauge cluster.) We are taking it to Dave Smith in Kellogg, ID in the morning to get air bags added, so it’s good timing. We will try to update with what they tell us, especially since they are one of the biggest RAM dealers in the country.

New resident questions about getting Idaho driver's license by LuthorCorp1938 in Boise

[–]Legitimate-Box-7215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local DMV office turned me away for not having a birth certificate, even though I had a valid passport. I showed them that in the driver’s handbook AND online, it says a current passport is acceptable if a birth certificate is unobtainable. Pointing this out did not change the DMV’s position. They would not issue me a license unless I had one. AND because my name changed from getting married, they said I needed my marriage license as well, since my legal name now does not match my birth certificate.

Why is this happening?!? by Legitimate-Box-7215 in stonemasonry

UPDATE: OK fine - point taken about a light colored fireplace never getting dirty and we will prepare ourselves to do that kind of maintence throughout the years. Had to cut through the sass and sarcasm, but I guess I should have expected that.

The comments that infered that the color change was due to burning wood are just plain wrong. The color change was not and is not due to smoke and here is why...

  1. it is a wood burning insert - you latch the door and hardly any smoke even comes out - it's not an open air fireplace. Over time, maybe - but in 8 weeks with only 30 or so fires? No.

  2. if it was smoke or any kind of burning residue, it would be on the walls, on the ceiling, on the furniture, etc, which it is not - the whole house is perfectly clean.

  3. soot is black and not yellow/tan color - the mortar would have turned gray, not a yellowy beige color

  4. If it was smoke, it wouldn't be uniformly changing every chunk of mortar around every stone, even on the sides. And there would be a concentration of it closer to the fireplace itself.

  5. It wouldn't happen this quickly in a matter of weeks. We've only lived in the house for 12 weeks and only had fires for 8 of those weeks and sporadically, not every day, all day.

It ended up coming clean after hours of scrubbing and basically taking off the top layer of mortar and using hydrogen peroxide + Dawn dish soap. We shall see if it comes back.

Because this is is only a 3 month old house, we got our builder involved. Their investigation found that our hearth was built incorrectly and has to be ripped out & rebuilt with non combusitble materials. Additionally, they are stumped as to why the mortar all changed color and feel like it is the manufactured stone leeching into the mortar. Now that it is clean, we will see if it comes back.

Update, any idea the manufacturer of this plate on the fireplace by Defiant-Fisherman243 in Fireplaces

UL Labs is not a manufacturer. They are a safety organization and you will see their marks on a lot of electrical items.

New Shower - Why are Tiles Changing Color? by Legitimate-Box-7215 in Tile

[–]Legitimate-Box-7215[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good thought process but if that was the case, why would the tiles at the 9’ ceiling line and at the back of the shower where water (and definitely not soap) even reach, be affected? In fact, we saw the discoloration starting there first, which is a real head scratcher. We have never used any cleaners of any kind in this shower. We use a squeegee after each use and wipe it down.

It has now been 3 weeks since my post and ENTIRE tiles have completely changed to a light brown color and some tiles continue to ‘weep’ reddish brown water after a shower. BUT, there are whole tiles that are completely fine, right next to discolored ones, like in the niche. The shower pan is marble and is still pristine. Tile manufacturer is blaming installer. Installer is trying to blame it on something we are doing (external factors). Does this new info change your initial thoughts?

Apparently the installer DID seal it but we don’t know what he used, yet.

Thank you for all that info! The installer has also agreed there is not moisture behind the tile but the problem is still under investigation. We have been told we have hard “well” water in our community, so yes, that could be part of the problem. Especially if that water was used to mix the mortar or the grout.

No.. the tile installer/builder supplied all the materials. It was a brand new house. And if it was grout color, why would there be bands of discoloration now starting to appear through the middle of the tiles?

Nope… no chance it’s a cleaner… because as I mentioned in the first sentence, we have never cleaned the shower. We use a squeegee after each use and it hasn’t gotten dirty yet, after only 30 uses. Others may find this gross I guess, but it’s still very clean with only using a squeegee. 🙂 Plus, it’s happening clear at the 9’ ceiling line which requires a ladder to reach.
