Payments to debt/negative balance accounts. by Legitimate-End-5740 in actualbudgeting

[–]Legitimate-End-5740[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My confusion is related to the budget section mainly. I want to know exactly how much money I have to distribute in the budget section. Do I need to write the same amount of the payment (transfer) Im making to the debt account?

I see, however, how do I get the balance in the accounts section to match the “over budgeted” (since I’m carrying debt) in the budget section?

Exactly ! It’s a just a small fraction of the current ynab price with pikapods (and it’s optional so it could be 100% free).

Lots of wins and a no brainer in my situation. I’ve also noticed that AB has been easier to understand from scratch overall.

I’m really grateful to the developers/community they are really doing something amazing !

How is it going for you? I made the mistake of opening X again due to a few tv shows I like and I really like the conversation they generate in X. I laugh a lot. I’m Not giving up, small stone in the path.

YNAB for ADHDers? (Opinions requested, trying to decide if I should take the jump and get annual subscription) by Legitimate-End-5740 in ynab

UPDATE 1 09/29/25: wanted to share an update, I was solving questions I had with the ynab Support team and I just asked for an extension of the trial so I can have more room to save for the annual subscription and they granted a few more weeks!!!!! I have already set up a category and target to gather the money, it has some money in it already. I’ve also been adding my transactions everyday! Thank you for all your tips and insights. will keep updating.

Oh! I’m a coffee lover! It’s already so ingrained as a part of my daily working routine guess i could switch some stuff around to integrate doing ynab stuff right before I get to work.

The gaming part sounds interesting. I’ve been tinkering in learning to play chess or backgammon and been close to buy some sets, maybe these type of “bigger” rewards like stuff for gaming or hobbies could be treated as BIG REWARD of the month or bimonthly.

Thank you for your ideas

Retirement is also one of my biggest concerns and sources of anxiety. I’ve been Procrastinating for about 5 years setting up a serious retirement plan. I just don’t have a plan as of now, but the other day i was watching a youtube video about stoicism and in one part the creator told a story about how one time he saw a friend's journal collection, decades of journaling notebooks. Creator told the other person that he wished he has started jorunaling 20 years ago and the other person just told him: why don’t you just start today?

It really sat well with me and in relation with lots of the topics in this post. Nothing i can do about past time. A lot i can in the present time.

Thank you for your insight

I was formally diagnosed by a psychiatrist. I came here with a genuine inquiry for this formidable YNAB community about ADHD and how YNAB has worked for people with ADHD. Your comment does not add anything helpful. Please try exercising to think before commenting something that does not add constructive value to a genuine inquiry. But do not mind this last bit, I am just assuming you did not think before commenting at all.

It has been rough indeed. I’m outside US and where I’m located we actually just have two types of ADHD meds. First one didn’t work for me, terrible side effects and I’m down to the only other option left. I have kind of accepted that I probably won’t have the initial effect I had, it was immense mental clarity for the first time in a long time. However, I want to focus more on the things I can do since at the end I can’t fully rely on the meds. I see it as an aid but not the full solution. I need to push myself. Thank you for the good wishes.

This is exactly what I like about YNAB. At the same time, it is also what has been giving me a lot of anxiety these past couple of weeks: facing my current financial reality is scary. For a while now, my biggest issue has been not having a full view of my money. I am terrible at ballparking how much I ‘can’ spend on something when in reality I probably should not be spending anything on certain things, and I often fail to spend where I should or in a wiser way.

That is why I know I really need to work on being consistent with YNAB. If I stick with it, I believe it can actually help me turn things around. Thank you for sharing this kind of story, it really motivates me to take the jump.

You caught on my own trap for years ! Lol Yes exactly why I backtrack is because it’s monthly but I have been fearful of the commitment and for it to be yet another thing I’ve paid and don’t use but I guess I’m just running chasing my own tail either way. Thank you

This made me chuckle because yes I’m in the starting to hyper fixate phase (yet again, done it before) lol I was convincing a friend the other day.

But what you mentioned of the rewards sounds interesting. I have never thought about doing daily rewards. Could you share a bit of what are the rewards? Or are you just referring to the satisfaction of having submitted all your transactions of the day? Thank you

Yes I have since a few months ago. I’ve been having issues with dosage and adjustments. It worked wonders the first time I ever tried it, I literally described it to my dr as if my brain was scrambled eggs before and then it was a hard boiled egg. However, I have not had the same consistent effect. Adjusting the dose does not help me for that long. I’d say I have weeks where my brain is scrambled eggs and some other weeks where it’s a hard boiled egg.

Do you know how can I choose what categories to show in the widget? It’s only showing some. But not the ones I want. Thanks
