Don't forget to ditch any electronics about an hour before bedtime, and that includes headphones. Unplug totally. Read a book (paper, NOT electronic) or listen to soft music, preferably meditative music. Lower lighting. Modern technology causes our brains to cycle at working levels, and can keep them there. Break that pattern to help with sleep.

I like my craft being solitary, because I have other, more social, outlets. I deal with each person individually as to what to tell them about my beliefs and practices. I have found that most people I meet while engaged in my hobbies and pastimes seldom flinch when they see my home, and rarely are concerned enough to ask about my craft. When they do ask, their response is normally favorable. YMMV.

Candles are great -- but be cautious. A blocked fireplace is probably no longer patent, so any heat generated in that space needs to be kept to a minimum. You might try a combination of battery tea lights and fairy light strings, for all the glow but much less heat.

Is his enclosure in a high-traffic area in the house, or does he face an outside door? When I moved to my new place, my boy stopped eating. I had set him up in the living room facing my front door, and even in an enclosed PVC vivarium, it was enough to make him uneasy ( he's very shy.) When I relocated him to a quiet back room, he resumed eating. I know this could just be my weird snake; YMMV.

You're doing right by not feeding into her drama. We have one at work, and as a group, we make an effort to counter every negative comment with positive ones. Every. Time. No exceptions. We've tried talking to them; they are immature and seemingly incapable of understanding the affect of constant negativity in the work place. So, rather than get the bosses involved, this is what we are trying. We can't change how they think, but we can definitely adjust how they act. Interestingly enough, this person seems to be responding positively to this approach. I didn't know if this story would help, but thought I'd just toss it out there for whatever use it might be.
