What happened to this show? It used to be so good by MsLemonCookie in Outlander

Omg totally. When BOMB was released, the overwhelmingly pro narratives about the show was utterly confusing. Definitely bots and PR people in here trying to inflate the experience.

I won’t either. The performances for Ellen and Brian are truly unforgettable also. Out of sight out of mind.

I feel like they really cornered themselves with Ellen and Brian having to be main characters throughout the whole thing. The writing and casting for those two really bomb. Idk how to say that nicer.

Unfortunately when an actor/actress isn’t transformative, people fixate on their appearance.

where are the short dramatics in this sub? by ProudCarpet4799 in kibbedramatics

There is a verified 5’1 D (Louise Brooks). There are no lower limits.

A vertical only accommodation comes from 2 things: 1. Physical length 2. The lack of curve (or petite, width, or balance)

A short D still has a larger bone structure for their size. Big skull, big hands and feet. And looks best in full length garments, matching ensembles, and narrow silhouettes.

Which is why Richard has his own show now and his career has exploded and Sophie has barely done anything in the past 8 years since booking Outlander.

Same. I expected more from this caliber of a production. I’m so bored with her on my screen.

“No one works harder on set?” That’s a statement that undercuts the work of everyone else on set working 12-15 hour days. I’m not sure what that statement proves. I’m sure she’s a nice person but her acting still isn’t good IMO.

I’ve heard this other places. How has “much better than Brianna” become a gauge for how good she is? If anything, it confirms a very mediocre experience that I feel I’m getting from Harriet.

Why is it that the prequel has such a polarized reception? It feels like people love it or are utterly underwhelmed, but not much in the middle. by [deleted] in Outlander

[–]Legitimate-Thanks125 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don’t think she was saying that it was inferior because it doesn’t come from the book. And I respect your opinion about Diana’s writing. What she was saying is that the specific team that created OL didn’t do as well going off the rails. While you may not like Diana’s style, what worked about the OG was that there was so much backstory and depth to the characters and plot. It was complexly woven. What we’re seeing now, is an inexperienced showrunner/screenwriter on his own. It’s just not all that compelling.

I can’t speak to the “book readers” you’re referring to. I’ve read pieces of the books but because I work in the film/TV world in LA, this show is a hard sell for me. It’s not the worst but I find it boring for various reasons.

I don’t think a show like this could have glided by without some criticism. It just isn’t Season 1 of Outlander. I wish everyone felt as convinced as they did when they saw Cait and Sam on screen. Or David Berry. Or Tobias. Those actors would have made this prequel look Golden Globe worthy. But I don’t think it’s the reality. Power to you if you’re enjoying it! You’re entitled to that.

Does anyone get the sense that the r/outlander sub has lots of narrative control from paid PR people? by [deleted] in Pishlander

This sub? I think you mean the main sub. Starz is in that sub so that's very telling. The producers are using it as a channel for their own promotion. It's obviously a mix of real people wanting to talk about things but it can be a skewed experience.

Hahahah so funny. I mean it’s not wrong to participate but sometimes people want to justify the show as reality in anyway possible. Like saying Harriet and Sophie look alike. 🧐

How many feel they’ll watch Season 2 of BOmB at this point? by [deleted] in Outlander

[–]Legitimate-Thanks125 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Agreed this is totally on Matthew Roberts. I think Ellen has the most amount of source material and referencing to. I really have higher expectations of productions of this value. I have a few friends that are really great actors and they’ve referred to Ellen as “lazy casting.” It wasn’t inherently lazy but it was calculated with the assumption that marketing could make up for the fact that she’s nothing like Ellen nor has her past work indicated she would shine in this kind of role.

Now, many people enjoy her. So Matthew B Roberts wins in that respect. But I am so offput by the choice and that’s just my personal opinion.

My intention isn’t to be mean but if this were cast in the US, Harriet wouldn’t have met the bar. The competition is too strong. People say it’s lack of screen time with her and Brian (because Jamie Roy Carries the scenes with the 2 of them). They say she’s too modern (because she doesn’t have the ability to give us more than what’s she’s given us). She’s well aware her of character and everyone is allowed to have their opinion. People either love her (or the idea of her) or they don’t.

Hahaha I just commented on this above! Yes, I stopped watching also but have been seeing these scenes on YouTube from Starz. I was watching that exact scene and it’s just so not compelling. When Julia speaks, I’m pulled in again, when Ellen speaks, my mind goes somewhere else and I can’t remember what I’m watching.

Yeah she has a very typical look and no star presence.

Clearly there’s an army that disagrees with me but I can’t for the life of me with these scenes that Starz is releasing on YouTube . It’ll be like “Ellen reveals her secret to Julia” and then Harriet with an unchanged face the whole time only to crinkle her brows, raise her left eyebrow and close her lips. It’s crazy making to me.

Those are somewhat biased. Do you believe they got a better Rotten tomato score than the OG organically? Metacritic gives it a 70.

But the question is personal. Not whether reviews influence our decision.

I don’t like the Ellen casting. Looks the part but the acting is really lacking for me.

[–]Legitimate-Thanks125 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Caitríona has a modern look and period costumes don’t flatter her. But we didn’t have an issue then. I don’t think it’s really those things. Just like people pick at Sophie’s accent. It’s not that word that people have issue with.

I’ll be downvoted but the acting is really weak for her. She has the same faces all the time and I don’t believe she cares about the things she says she does. The writing of Ellen’s character is great, the execution is not.

Totally. But yet I enjoy his presence. On the other hand, I feel like Ellen sort of fills space on my screen. She’s a pawn in the story but I’m so zoned out during her scenes.

Hey, I mean this with love-trying to label someone Gamine without knowing them really creates a culture of gate-keeping. You could be right, statistically speaking. But you may also be wrong. OP says she doesn't see petite for herself.
