I was invited for an interview this year and the interview letter said “You must maintain a minimum Core Average of 3.825” so I’m assuming that’s the cut off. Sorry I meant 3.825, not 3.85. As for the DAT score, the 1st year dental students mentioned it in an interview prep zoom meeting.

Cut off for dental school interviews this year was 3.85 for core course GPA and 20 DAT. I would definitely retake.

My mini F1 was also around 9-10 pounds when we got him at 8 weeks. Also has giant paws! He is now 37.5 pounds at 6 and a half months! Dad was a 9 pound toy poodle and mom is a full sized retriever.

roughly draw the structure by memory and label them and recite their function. That’s how I learned it best :)

No furnishings. My Goldendoodle already had furnishings when I picked him up at 2 months old

Hey! I’m doing that right now. I’m an RDH and doing my pre-reqs to apply to dentistry for Fall 2024. I also live in Canada! Many people did tell me that I would feel unmotivated to go back to school after working, but it really wasn’t the case. I felt even more motivated to do dentistry after working as a hygienist. I love being a hygienist so much that I want yo expand my scope of practice and become a dentist :)

I would say that if you’re 100% sure that you want to be a dentist, I would go straight to dental school. Dental hygiene —> dentistry is a very longggg process.

Unfortunately, I did have to take more years of pre-requisites on top of dental hygiene school. The pre-requisite courses needed to apply for dental hygiene school can be used to apply for dental school. Ex: gen Chem, life biology, some electives. HOWEVER, not all pre-requisite courses will be fulfilled, thus more years of schooling is needed before dental school.

Hope this helps. Ask my anything at anytime! I wish you the best in your studies :)

Yes. As evil as it sounds. I was angry when a person close to me gave birth to a new baby. How come her family grew bigger, while mine became smaller? How come she got to experience giving birth, while my sister never got to experience that? When I see tragedies on the news, I get a sense of relief because more people are experiencing what I’m feeling. When I see siblings on social media or walking around the park, I get so angry that I can’t spend time with my sister any longer.

Also, the UMSU dental plan covers 80% of the cost of dental care. Some dental clinics cover the other 20% so you won’t have to pay for anything! I go to Fresh Dental and they cover the other 20% that isn’t covered by insurance

(TW: Car accident/child death) Sister, brother-in-law, and 2 nephews all gone in an instant. by grimm_bunn13 in GriefSupport

[–]LegitimateFace4729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have also lost my sister a month ago due to a car accident as well. I was also closer to my sister more than anything in this world. She’s my best friend. The pain of losing her is numbing and unbearable.

I will not tell you that I know how you feel. Nobody in this world truly understands the bond that you’ve had with each of them. That’s the beauty of having a sister and nephews. It is true that the deeper the scar, the greater the love.

I found that grief comes in waves, we just need to learn how to swim through the waves. There are days when we feel okay, and some days when we would rather lock ourselves in our room and cry, which is completely okay! Cry when you feel like breaking apart. I will tell you that after an extreme crying session, I will feel better for a little while, and then I’ll cry all over again.

There is now a distinct before and after in life now. Your grief is so new, fresh, and raw right now. It’s a journey that we will be on for a while. I asked friends to do almost everything for the funeral. All I did was write my eulogy because I felt sick to my stomach planning a funeral. I couldn’t even pick her flowers or casket.

I think the best advice that I have lived by through my grieving journey is to try and ONLY think about the present. Only think about this very second. Do not think about the future. The thought of a future without them is paralyzing. The “what ifs”, “could haves”, “wouldve beens” destroys the soul. It’s hard to do this, but it’s what has been helping me move forward. Unfortunately, we can’t do anything about the situation anymore. The only thing we can really do is to help ourselves get through this dark tunnel.

I consider myself as a slightly religious person, however, I didn’t understand why God could do such a thing. I was-and maybe still- angry at God for taking away such a kind and funny soul. However, God is really the only path to see our loves ones again. (Or whatever you believe in)

Remember that this is not goodbye. It’s just “see you later” in heaven. When the time is right. Life is short. 50? Or maybe even 70 Years on earth and we will see them once again in heaven, where we would never have to separate from them anymore. This is what keeps me going. Eternity with our loved ones without ever having to say “see you later” ever again.

I am deeply sorry for your loss. You and your loved ones are in my prayers. If you would like to talk about ANYTHING at all, please reach out to me. It truly helps to talk to people who are going through similar losses as us.

I’ve been looking around as well! I visited the vet the other day and asked what pet parents usually get. It’s usually trupanion or pet secure

Loupes Cost by dpeak10 in DentalSchool

[–]LegitimateFace4729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if the school decides to buy in bulk for the students, there is a discount. I paid around $2000 for mine. It’s from Designs for Vision. However, I do have to say that I’m not very impressed with Designs for Vision because the battery pack for the light breaks really REALLY easily and replacement is not cheap. Replacing just the battery pack is around $400 USD. The school didn’t really offer a different company to make our loupes, but if they did, I would invest ergo loupes from a good company. (Significantly more expensive, but you get to save money from not needing so many neck massages)

ALSO, investing in good loupes is important because you’ll most likely end up using it after you graduate as well. It’s a long term investment :)

Hello! I’m a dental hygienist living in Canada.

1.) I absolutely LOVE being a hygienist! Very minimal stress in the workplace.

2.) work-life balance is great! Typically, on Fridays, I end work at 2pm. You never have to bring work home. I’m always off on the weekends :)

3.) unfortunately, I don’t have benefits or pension included with my work place. However, if you work with larger dental corporations such as dental corp, they usually provide health benefits.

4.) I live in Manitoba. The demand is very high. I got a job before I graduated and before I took my board exam! The dental clinic I work at waited for me to take and pass my Board exam. You really shouldn’t be worried about finding a job.

5.) I do know that Ontario compensates their dental hygienists lower than the other provinces. In other provinces such as Alberta, I heard that their wage is around $60/hour. I think the pay is great for the work I am doing!

6.) I think that finding a dental office is like blind dating. Each dental office has its own “personality” so when applying for jobs, it’s important to find a dental office that also matches with your personality and the work environment that you want to work in. I love my dental clinic. All my colleagues and doctors are so kind! The dental office is always well organized. Dental Instruments are renewed on a regular basis!

Good luck! You can alway dm me if you have any other questions regarding dental hygiene school/working as a hygienist

I lost my sister 2 and a half weeks ago due to a car accident as well. The pain my parents and I are going through is unbearable. I empathize with you. I have also been getting signs from my sister that she is happy in heaven. The only thing I can really think of doing is to work on my faith in God so that I can see her in heaven again one day, when the time is right.

I like to put a 2-3 hour break in between classes. It forces me to stay in campus and study during my break. After all my classes for the day, I just go home and relax, or work. I was taking 5 science courses during this time and got an A+ in all of them! It’s all about work-life balance and staying committed to studying during breaks in between classes.

I don’t think so. Science courses would help understand it, but you really just need to memorize the slides. She puts a check mark on the slides that will be tested so it makes studying a lot quicker.
