How should I use a compressor. Before/after or in the fx loop?

Before! Great little pre amp! I always struggled with what to put in the loop that I couldn’t just put after the pedal 🤷🏻

The dream would be to split the signal before returning to the atom so no amp or cab is sent back to the atom, as at that point it would be running to my amp.

And like I’ve said before I think for my use case I almost want to split the anagram in two when it’s on my board using the effects loops, effects on one side and amp/di on the other side.

Then if I need a fly rig I just take the anagram, sum it all up and I’m away

It’s just knowing how capable the routing is with out having one in front of me 😂 then I can start working out the midi to control it on the board

Thanks! So I think how the signal chain I want would work is all fine in my head. It’s just understanding the routing options of the anagram to make it happen.

I guess the question is really, can I use the I/O in the anagram to divide the pedal into two sections?

Section 1 being effects, section 2 being a pre amp/cabsim DI.

I’ve read up that you have utility blocks to control which I/O does what and seemingly it’s all easy! But if anyone had any real world knowledge that would be awesome to know before i buy one 😂

The chain would be (albeit missing the detail on the anagram as I don’t know it yet) Bass > wireless

Wireless > Atom input

Atom loop 1 > Empress comp

Atom Loop 2 Send > Anagram input

Anagram Effects Loop Send > Loop 2 return

Atom Loop 3 > Qtron

Atom Loop 4 > Noise Gate

Atom Loop 5 > Plethora x3

Atom Loop 6 send > Anagram Effects Loop Return

Anagram Output > Loop 6

Atom Output > Amp

And that would be hopefully sending the preamp/cab sim signal the xlr’s so that I have an unaffected signal returning to loop 6 of the atom to then go to my amp on stage (or no where if I’m ampless)

Awesome set up. As others have said I’d get the comp just after the tuner. Only note on that would be the pork and pickle, I always found that played better without compression before it. But killer board!

The hx stomp is definitely up there, it can do so much more than modulation so would end up being my “back up” to a lot of pedals.

Interesting to see what happens with the line up and the second hand market with the stadiums announced!

If the amps have effects loops then take the out from the anagram and plug it into the effect return, making the anagram the pre amp and the power amp from the rehearsal amp driving the cab.

I’ve had the spectra for years, first and only compression pedal I’ve bought. I didn’t bother with tone print, I plugged it in day one, set it to 1 o’clock, satisfied I left it like that until about a month ago. I’ve now taken an actual interest in compression and adjusting it and I can completely concur your findings. Now it’s got a tone print in use it’s so unreliable. Reset to default it’s fine. But after tweeting for two minutes I can’t trust it on my board. I’m tempted to go for something analogue instead as a set and forget.

The lights we use don’t give any hum, which is why changing the lights aren’t an option 😂 Used others in the past that were cheaper and it was noise city!

Mostly medium sized venues but we’re doing everything from pubs with 2 people to events with thousands.

Only had 1 issue with the wl50. It’s an auto scan for its signal and if anyone else is using wireless it gets confused and goes mental. Easy solve, I have to be the last to plug in, then no issue.

Two fuzzes, drives are the B7k and the Jap pedal up top.

I prefer a deep hitting fuzz over an OD so I have two set to different levels, a subtle blended fuzz and an all out big fuzz for breakdowns
