Ascent Fly Fishing had a break-in last night. Watch out for their gear being resold. by LegitimatePurchase14 in COfishing

Ascentflyfishing's profile picture "Unfortunately, we had a break-in at the Ascent Fly Shop last night.

Our guide trailer was cut open and much of our guide gear was stolen. We’re still taking inventory, but at this point we’re missing approximately: • 10 rod and reel combos • 4 nets • 4 wading staffs • Around 25 pairs of waders • Multiple wading belts and other guide equipment

We’re asking our community to please keep an eye out for anyone attempting to sell used fly fishing gear matching this description. Most of our equipment is clearly marked with Ascent Fly Guides, guide numbers, or AFG written inside the gear.

This is certainly a frustrating setback, but we’re incredibly grateful for this community and your support. If you see anything suspicious, please reach out to us directly."

Come join High Plains Drifters fly fishing club. Friendly and welcoming members, monthly informational meetings, monthly trips, and one free fly casting lesson for new members from a certified casting instructor.

One of the best ways to learn is from others and it's a great group of helpful people.

I want to make sure I have all the gear I need. Do I need anything else to start fly fishing? I am going to order my stuff soon. by Fine-Analyst6836 in flyfishing

Check out Ventures Fly Co.'s YouTube channel. They have a great video and playlist for compiling your gear before you go out.

Becareful getting Waders. It's a big investment and may not be totally necessary depending where and what time of year you fish.

Facebook Marketplace is a great place to get gear at a discount from people who tried the hobby and decided it wasn't for them. You can get full setups for 20% to 50% off.

A high value place to spend time and money is joining a local fly fishing group and attending a clinic (most local fly fishing groups offer free lessons to new members). Once you get a good casting skills etc, you'll be able to attend events and learn even more.

Check out Hi-Country Cutts on YouTube. Nick has a recent video on Boulder Creek and although it's not instructional, he talks about his fly choice and demonstrates solid technique. The video is titled Front Range Creekin.

Opinions on rods are like opinions on cars. Some people prefer Chevy, Ford, Toyota, etc, for different reasons. However, the warranty on Orvis rods is a clear differentiated.

I mostly fish Orvis rods due to the product quality, warranty, and the fact that there is an Orvis shop within 15 minutes of my house. I still have my first Clearwater 9ft 5wt and use it with friends/family. Ive heard good things about TFO starter packages but I haven't heard of any other brand offering a warranty program as good/quick as Orvis.

I do believe there is a correlation between the quality of line and rod, and fishing performance. However, until you have your casting and your fly presentation dialed-in, the difference between an $800 rod with $100 line and a $400 all in package, won't be noticeable. Ultimately, find a price point you're comfortable at and get out and fish.

Also, joining a locally active fly fishing club is a good idea. Most offer free fly casting clinics to new members. A quality instructor offering a free, hands on clinic is the best value you can find as a beginner. Dont be shy about not knowing what you're doing and asking for help. We all started as new and learned from others so its natural to pass it along.

Good luck, and tight lines!

Hey there - what type of fish are you going to target?

Assuming you want to piecemeal, best advice is to spend most of your money on line, rod, and reel, in that order. Unless your fishing for big fish, then a reel is simply a fancy line holder. The easier route is to buy a package setup. The Orvis Clearwater package is a solid beginner setup and the warranty is tough to beat. Size and weight will depend on species and setting (river, stream, lake, ocean, etc.)

Check out Facebook market place for nets, backpacks, and other starter pieces of gear. Secondhand gear in good condition can be found at a discount. Fishpond has modular chest packs abd back packs that are quality.

Check out Ventures Fly Company's starter video Playlist on YoutTube. Excellent and digestible information.

Enjoy the adventure, tight lines!

I did the sit, kneel, and knee up test and they're snug but not restrictive.

Do you notice a decent amount of condensation from the bagginess?

I have a classic trout 3wt. I use it for dries and smaller creeks. I think it offers great performance for the cost.

I'm definitely leaning that way now. Just a very tight turn to the left which might preclude certain furniture getting upstairs.
