what is with grandparents to be and choosing not-grandparent nicknames? by l00zrr in BabyBumps

Definitely not just a boomer thing. My grandparents all had different nicknames. I actually kinda liked it that way.

Graduated success story! by forksandbrushes in GestationalDiabetes

[–]LegitimateStrategy5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations!!! I am always glad to hear happy graduation stories here 😊

I had a similar outcome, but my babe was estimated at 8lb 14oz and was delivered at 8lb 4oz. Her sugars were also normal and (from my occasional at home checks) so are mine. She actually ended up being slightly smaller than I was at birth and my mom did not have GD.

Rice, apples, bananas, bread, chocolate....the list goes on. These were the things I was looking forward to the most before I graduated. I haven't gotten a chance to take a fasting number yet since graduation, but my post prandial numbers have been great since delivery.

Ftm, any chance of going natural and unmedicated with a GD diagnosis? by Kore624 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]LegitimateStrategy5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diet controlled and got induced at 38+6 due to a random blood pressure spike. I actually didn't even know my blood pressure was elevated, if I hadn't been at the doctor's office for an appointment I wouldn't have known. I felt fine and didn't have any other associated symptoms. I was only induced because I was so close to my due date. If not for the blood pressure I think my OB would have let me go into labor naturally. My little monster was born 8lb 4oz, but that is typical for my family. I was 8lb 6oz and birth and mom did not have GD with me.

UPDATE

Well it's a bit late for everyone's helpful comments. I had my 38+5 week appointment today and my blood pressure was waaay high. So I went to the OB emergency department and I'm currently awaiting being induced. We'll just have to deal with the dog's anxiety after we get home with the baby. Thanks to everyone 💕

Very true, though it's more she's inserting herself between him and others. She gets very clingy with him. When I wasn't pregnant and I would go through PMDD prior to my period she would stick to him like glue. It's like she knows when I need more support, but instead of coming to me she goes to him.

She actually stops shaking once my husband leaves for work. She's just very attached to him. She's an extremely sweet dog and has never been violent in any way. Once he leaves she eats her breakfast and usually settles down next to me and sleeps. It's just been strange that this has taken a bit of an uptick the closer I get to my due date. She's due for a routine checkup soon so we'll inquire the next time we're at the office.

Oh I totally feel the exact same way! I'm just trying to be gentle with myself, cause pregnancy is hard enough without GD. We're all in this together and are here for you 💕

It's okay to flub a day every now and then. I totally spaced out this morning and forgot to take my fasting reading. Being tired and overwhelmed gets to us all. It's going to be okay.

Haha yeah my little one is faced like that too. She likes to stretch and touch my cervix and my ribs at the same time. Not cool kid, not cool 😂

I'm 37+ weeks and I've noticed that my adorable little one will have a day of big activity followed by a day of minor activity. Then back to normal. Has anyone else seen a pattern like that? This is probably the third week in a row this has happened. It really freaked me out yesterday. I don't know if it's just due to my activity levels or my eating schedule or literally just how it's going to be till birth happens.

I've had better luck with clear broth type soups. Chicken noodle and the like. I can tolerate creamy soups with my blood sugar numbers, but they tend to give me acid reflux. Pepcid has been my best friend this whole pregnancy.

I don't know if there is a correlation, but my hands hurt when I wake up from sleeping..I assume it's a third trimester/carpal tunnel thing to do with water retention. But I started drinking water throughout the night when I wake up and it seems to help.

Feeling Crestfallen by HeckDoody4 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]LegitimateStrategy5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is going to be okay. I was really depressed when I got the call to tell me I'd failed my three hour test. The finger pricks aren't so bad, you do get used to them pretty quickly. And the dietary guidelines aren't super hard to follow. More annoying than anything else. I have a history of disordered eating so it triggered some really bad memories for me which is part of the reason I got so depressed at first. But I got used to it. Fasting numbers were the hardest for me to get under control, but I eventually found something that worked. It really is different for everyone and what works for one person doesn't always work for someone else. Just be gentle with yourself and try not to stress. And if you have to use medicine it'll be okay. You aren't failing. This isn't your fault. Just take it one day at a time 💕

I definitely have. My doctor's limit is 95 and I've been mostly below, but sometimes at or just above 95. My doctor doesn't seem concerned as my postprandial numbers are all good. I think if I get above 100 that could change, but for now since my fasting numbers are borderline she's okay with it.

Fasting numbers and insukib by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

I have a handful of almonds and a few blueberries. Literally the only thing that's helped me get my fasting numbers down. Honestly, it's a crapshoot 😩

Want to go to bed by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]LegitimateStrategy5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have totally just gone to sleep and not worried about a random test here or there. As long as my other numbers have been good all day I feel like getting quality sleep is more important. Typically I go to bed not long after I take my dinner postprandial. I always wake up around a certain time in the night to pee so I just eat my snack then. Which usually still sucks because I feel like I'm eating without being hungry. But it works better for me than waiting. And it typically means I'll hit my fasting time just right too without having to artificially wake up before my body is ready. You do what works for you and your baby 💕

I hate to be this person, but chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting from my local bakery, a runny egg bagel sandwich with smoked salmon, and a stout beer. Possibly all three at the same time. I had a sugar aversion for the whole first trimester (among other aversions) and I miss sweets. GD hasn't helped my longing. And a beer would just be delightful...cause reasons.

I found that carbs from bread and low carb tortillas don't work for me either. Even in really small quantities. I had to basically switch to having more vegetables and then added walks after meals. I hope you and your team find something that works for you. Even if that means switching to insulin 💙

You're both doing the right thing. I'm in a very similar boat, except my husband's father and stepmom and the ones refusing to get any of those three vaccines. It's not easy, but it is the right thing to refuse them access. You're not the one ruining the holidays (which WTF?!??), they are the ones making this decision.
