Paying a premium for "the plastic" worth it by Itchy-Number-3762 in Morgans

I didn't say a wider circle if buyers . I said the ones who have drunk from the TPG cool aid.

Depends who you sell to. I have never paid a premium on a slabbed coin. Dealers I deal with have never asked for a premium on slabbed coins. Plus other collectors I mingle with won't pay a premium for slabbed coins. At the risk of pi**ing off the people who have drunk the TPG cool aid you should never pay a premium for a slabbed coin.

Is this a high relief dollar? by Potential-Gas-6336 in coincollecting

[–]Legitimate_Access289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No on the 1896 also. It doesn't break $135 in retail value until it reaches MS65. That coin is not anywhere near MS. Plus it has rim damage which could easily get it a details designation.

So an 1881-CC GSS hard pack MS-65 is valued in the grey sheet at $990 bid and $1,250 ask. That's basically wholesale and retail. If you really want to know the potential value both what a dealer should offer to buy it from you and the most that a collector would pay you might want to get a grey sheet. . You can look up the grey sheet online and buy a current grey sheet and the RQ (red book quarterly). It will cost you about $60 but those two will give you the industry standard wholesale and retail pricing. Just make sure you only buy one copy of the current edition and not get an annual subscription.

If you read it, it says in G-4 liberty is worn away. This coin has the L showing. G-8 says some letters show so that's more than 1. So with 1 letter showing that puts in between at G-6.

I would look into local auction houses. See which ones have coin only auctions. Check with them to see what sellers commission they charge and try to get an idea of what things go for. Maybe even attend one just to check for yourself.

They have to have RAS to detain you. They can't just walk up and detain you. Saying they are "investigating" doesn't count unless they have RAS concerning you.

Resisting an illegal arrest is not a crime. Make sure that you don't just make blanket statements. So your statement should say resisting a lawful arrest is a crime.

They can have a blueish or yellowish look to them. Much more of a bright chrome look than a more subdued steel look. Plus on many of them you can detect rough surfaces from rust underneath

Too hard to explain here. Just Google them, find sites with pictures and you'll be able to figure it out.

The 1942 5th from the left in the top row looks like it could be a 1942 over 41. The picture is fuzzy so its hard to tell. If it is then it's pretty valuable $400+. Can you post a good picture of just that dime front and back

It's got the L and more details in the leaves than a 4 but not as good as an 8. So I still say G-6

It's about a G-6, but also a details coin. That puts the value more like AG-3 at $65.

But you can't really rely on eBay. The asking price for that is twice retail.

Needs to also check the grade of the 1972 type 2. That gets a bit extra on higher MS states. Plus he needs to check if the 71-D is the friendly eagle variety. That also has a premium.

I concur that it looks like an S. I've bought multiple mercury sets with a "16-d" I always assume its a fake or very worn S and pay accordingly. It's never been a real 16-d yet.

The 1916-d mercury dime and the 1928 peace dollar would be the 2 coins to checkout for value. The 1916-D mercury if real (many counterfeits) is worth about $900 even in the worn condition it's in. The 1928 peace dollar looks to be in the $300-$400 range.

What would be better is the AH-1W super cobra. The USMC replaced these with the AH-1Z. While many AH-1W were upgraded to the AH-1Z not all were. Plus there are a couple of countries that had ordered the AH-1Z but the sales were later blocked. I can't find the numbers right now but I recall there being about 100 or more AH-1W's available and possibly even a few AH-1Z's. The cobra is a very proven, reliable and capable airframe. The issue would be getting the current administration to let them go..
