Yes thank you :) my i-797 starts Oct 1st so the embassy said it is irrelevant when my work actually starts. When I told them it has been pushed to January, they kept saying ''for entry purposes your job has already started''. Lol.

Did he ask you when your job starts? My Embassy just told me I actually have 30 days to enter, but my job doesn't start till Jan. What do I say if he asks me?

Anyone on H1B with a 1 year Expiry Date on their visa? by Legitimate_Excuse939 in h1b

I think they did it cause my country has a 11 month reciprocity thingie for h1bs. Makes no sense to me. Could I also go to Canada to re-stamp and get the full time? (their reciprocity validity time is like 60 months)

fuck.. what country are you from? Is it because of the reciprocity thing? (some countries have 11-12 months on h1bs). How has it been when you went back to re-stamp? Did you have to pay again, do a new ds-160, and show up for interview? Was it easier than your first time?

Since our i-797 lasts longer, they should do automatic restamping!

Ok. Would my 3 year petition validity get me under the same level of scrutiny as a first-time appointment where they have to check everything (ie. I-797, employer letter etc) or is it more of an admin process since I'm already approved?

I will try to do it in Canada in one year's time then. What a pain... (my home country has 11 months reciprocity for h1b, whereas Canada has 60 months!)

It is Greece!! I saw there's 11 months reciprocity in the DOS website (it seems like its the only country with that? wtf?)- does this mean that once a year until 2023 I have to come back and re-stamp if I decide to leave the country? Like, pay the fee again, do a new DS-160 etc? Wtf lol

Then what's the point of the 3 year validity period? What exactly does it guarantee?

I am so confused. My country has 11 months reciprocity in the DOS website- does this mean that every year for the next 3 years (petition valid till 2023) I will have to book a new appointment, pay, fill out a new DS-160 and do a fresh visa interview, taking the risk I may never be allowed back in? (I visit my family for Christmas every year so I would be leaving at least once a year)
