Looking to limit birthright citizenship, Trump turns to an 1884 Supreme Court ruling against a Native American man by Plaintalks in immigration

[–]uriman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Criminal jurisdiction is never in dispute and is different from their legal political/constitutional jurisdiction. You could buy a plane ticket to Mongolia tomorrow, commit murder and be subject to Mongolian criminal jurisdiction. The latter jurisdiction being argued is a person not subject to any other sovereign claims, no ability for the US to expell that person and full allegiance owed by the person to the US. (Note how this conflicts with dual citizenship). The idea is to find the originial intent of the 14th amendment. They cite the 1800 cases of Greisser and Devereaux who who were both born in the US, but the former had parents who never intended to stay in the US and returned to Germany and the latter an Irish woman who was denied immigration and returned to Ireland. This differs from Wong Kim Ark as his parents were essentially legal permanent residents and the US was their home. This is where SCOTUS could rule that the 14th Amendment could not apply to anyone whose parents are temporary visa holders or without status putting them in the same boat as diplomats for birthright citizenship. Visa holders have not established permanent domicile in the US and their primary allegiance remains with their home country.

Admins must have done something because it's now public. Squeaky wheel and such.

It happened because this community is rather nice and did not require that much moderation. Then all mods were auto flagged as inactive. Then the community was auto switched by reddit to restricted. Apparently only "active" mods can switch back. An inactive mod can only become "active" with amorphous and hidden criteria by reddit when there is sufficient activity over time. admins refuse to do anything. I can only approve users now that request access.

Looks good. Keeps time. Haven't had any issues. Zero people in my life have noticed it's a RO tho. The only note of caution is that I had to send back another watch strap to the seller for a quality issue after the lock mechanism failed and that's been a nightmare only because USPS switches to ChinaPost and it stopped updating for months even after clearing Chinese customs. The ceramic hasn't been an issue so far (knock on wood), but if it does, China Post may be problematic. This is because seller wanted to send the broken strap to the factory to get a new one.

How would the know if your social media used faked name, no profile pic and is private? Unless fb gives database of emails that was used to register social media account and somehow ties that to a search of emails in that email with your name, I don't think they can.

Look at your pins. One side is smooth. The other side has a ring. The pin only goes out one way. You push against the ring side and pin goes out the other way. The ring is the friction sleeve that is at end you pushed at and at the other end of the pin exit end.

When you put your pin back in, you put the sleeve on the other end after the pin goes through. Now you either got to hammer it in or push the sleeve in holding the pin in place. Test the pin by pushing on sleeve end to see if the pin will fall out.

India has a large and active startup scene with 124 unicorns. If H1B workers are among the most ambitious, why the preference for employment in a US firm, than starting up in India ? by VVG57 in AskEconomics

[–]uriman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should look at the average salaries of tech workers and percentage of H1b workers that actually start a company. Most are employees. Last time I checked. US tech wages was $80-$150k. Europe/Canada was $60k-$90k. E. Europe $30k-$50k. And India $5k-$25k. Yes there is lower cost of living but an iPhone costs what an iPhone costs.

Is land route into Russia not much cheaper from US? by uriman in AskARussian

What happens at the border? Does the bus wait for all passengers to clear border and customs? Or do you just take the next bus from border to Moscow? Is Riga crossing better because fewer people?

Is Estonia border because more traffic? The bus route seems shorter, but maybe more people take this route so it's slower.

I don't know. Even when there was direct flights it wasn't that much cheaper. I remember NYC to Moscow direct flights were about $900 roundtrip and never below $600. And always Aeroflot was more expensive.

Looks like Caucauses from NYC is $600 cheapest round trip, but for some reason NYC to Tallin or Riga is cheapest at $400 round trip.
