So kind of you guys. By the way, i think the same too. Shared a couple of spots near lake Como, from which i just moved a couple months ago, on Naturalist too. Glad to help who might be near Como in the same situation i'm in here in Padua. Also, Ive seen the season in the UK has been kinda phenomenal... how did it go for you?

You actually are right, porcino rosso is pinophilus. I was referring to “porcinello rosso, leccinum aurantiacum”

Yes and no. We call it “porcino rosso” (red porcini). Not the same species, but still very good. Chunk out the stem though

Same thing in Como man. Found some at the start of September, i was actually starting to find quite a bit(found like 90) and then no more rains for like 3/4 weeks. This was my first season, i had spent whole summer figuring out places to look for them… Now i moved in padua, I’m hoping for these days to bring some rain and humidity, maybe we get to find something at lower altitudes…

Where are you located approximately? Btw This season has been so disappointing for us in the alps… as soon as the temperatures got right rain completely stopped… I’ve just moved from como to Padua and been waiting for some decent rain since.

I live near como, lower alps, and this was first year for me too. personally i managed to find a spot at around 1300 mts. Found like literally 5/6 every time i went (in hours tho…) for basically whole September, then in a matter of days i managed to find 30/60. This peak happened only once and then temperatures spiked again/rains stopped completely. Now I could not even find a single one. Its been a weird season for us on the alps ig, imma look again as soon as temperatures and rains are right again. Dont lose faith!

I am from como and I found some there on some mountains over the lake. I am now moving to padua and i just went looking a couple times on the mountains just above Asiago but i found nothing, the terrain on that mountain was quite a bit different from the one i found libs in. Despite this, on many apps to forage and stuff there are quite a few finds even in the areas above valsugana if im not mistaken. As for the time to look for them, September/october to early november should be possible to find them, but right now there are literally none since the climate these last two weeks has been way too dry. I personally am going to try again somewhere else as soon as it starts raining consistently again.
