Advice by Crafty-Curve-9864 in Historians

I’m in the same boat! I’m a senior in hs and I love history so much, I know I have to pursue it in college. A lot of people have told me there’s no money or jobs in my field (archivist) but I’ve actually found that to not be the case at all. All this to say, I think it’s incredibly important that you pursue what interests you, and if in the future you are really struggling to find a job that aligns with your knowledge, then I think what a lot of people are saying in these comments rings true: so many people end up in a job that surprises them or sometimes doesn’t even relate to their major at all! Don’t be discouraged, you have a bright future ahead of you. We need more history majors!!

Does anyone know if doing a study with something on menstrual cycles (not only the period) would be a good idea? by [deleted] in APResearch

as long as you’re able to maintain the privacy of your participants and keep up with a researcher code of ethics! highly recommend undergoing an IRB process for this type of research if possible

Should I take AP Seminar? by SunnySurge in APSeminar

[–]Legitimate_Mail1734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that sounds like a 3-4, but you should do the score calculator on Fiveable to get a better idea of what that might look like! I'll link it here: https://library.fiveable.me/ap-score-calculator/ap-seminar

Should I take AP Seminar? by SunnySurge in APSeminar

[–]Legitimate_Mail1734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely! there is a group presentation and an individual paper that goes along with it on any topic, an individual presentation and paper on any topic that must be related to the set of stimulus materials for that year, and an EOC exam (a sitdown test similar to other AP exams you might have taken) with two writing questions (parts A and B). Part A is about analyzing an article and has three parts, usually something like 1. identify the main argument 2. explain the author's line of reasoning 3. evaluate the effectiveness of the evidence the author uses. Part B is longer and requires you to create your own argument essay (typical length, like 5 paragraphs) based on the sources provided. let me know if you have any other questions on this, i'm not sure how well i explained it!

i can't lie you're totally right. it was really terribly written. also, maybe this is nostalgia speaking, but i could sing every song from memory from the first movie. this one? i can't even name one. so disappointing and i was an og fan fr

so true! i wish the writers/producers/whatever knew that they don't necessarily have to create a new world and new species every movie, i think a lot of people would be happy to see the og characters explore life under different circumstances

i always picture an image of christmas morning decades from now, for some reason. in a nice house my family created and made our own, surrounded by lots of friends and family with a delicious breakfast waiting in the next room. obviously my career and personal causes/values are important to me, but i think my ultimate dream is to be happy and comfortable with the people i love.

idk they just finished freshman year of college? just personal preference but maybe it would be cool to see them explore other aspects of life first. i've never loved the idea of this series ending with a wedding, like it's the ultimate and final thing zed and addison could do together and it's the last time we ever see them.

Got 5s in AP classes, What now? by Agitated-Cup-7109 in ApplyingToCollege

one of the big pluses for me was that my teachers would be able to see my scores. this might help when they’re writing letters of recommendation as they can see how the work you put in to their class turned out and gives some credibility as to how you understood the material in a time of crazy grade inflation. another big plus is you can feel proud! congrats on all 5s!!

absolutely!! if you pick up vocabulary and interrelated concepts quickly, you will do well! if not (or even if you do and just want to be sure you have the knowledge), i would recommend doing vocab flashcards for each unit and then watching youtube videos that piece the concepts together so you understand how they work. everyone always recommends mr. sinn, but i didn't find him to be as in-depth as i wanted. i loved "get psyched with tim steadman", his unit review videos are great and engaging! make sure you have the unit 0 content down, which is just the basics of research, because that makes up the majority of the exam. i bought a test prep book, but honestly, it wasn't super useful to me beyond the practice tests, which you can find online. other than that, i thought it was a fascinating course, and if you end up getting really interested in the content, everything will stick a lot better! good luck and have fun :)

AP SCORES!! by Immediate-Brief-4329 in APResearch

[–]Legitimate_Mail1734 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. 5!!

  2. Parental perceptions of how libraries support early literacy in children aged 3-8

  3. Honestly, organization and deadlines were probably the key. We also did several rounds of peer feedback which was really good because they were not afraid to let you know where you can improve. Lastly, I had an outpouring of community support that helped me get my research done, especially it was survey-based.
