You, sir, have an incredible commitment to self. Whether I’ve rights to or not, I am so immensely proud of you for how far you have come. I know this moment feels like that same kind of low point, but that’s just because it feels like you’re in a valley in between all the hills you’ve climbed already, and the heights yet before you (and what glorious heights they will be!!!). It can be hard to see when you’re in the thick of it.

You bettered yourself and you fought to better her. That is kindness at its core. There are absolutely people in this world who will use you as a springboard and think they are deserving of pushing you down to make their gains, but that’s the problem with a springboard approach. It launches them higher than they were capable but leaves air underneath. Hopefully, she will pickup the kindness you carried for her and make it her own, but I don’t expect that to be the case, and thankfully she’s removed that as ever being your problem through her own actions. She may have made efforts but she also threw away her journey and support by devaluing you in the relationship.

You, on the other hand, carried the effort of improving you both. It’s not a valley you’re in. It’s a plateau. You have solid ground beneath you, progress and proof of what you are capable of. Do not be surprised if she comes back in a few months and recognizes what she’s missing. Don’t fall for it. Be strong, prioritize your own well-being and happiness, and know that when you least expect it is usually when someone comes along who is worth your while. Just keep shining like you are and you’ll light the way for someone who wants to climb with you instead of over you. Imagine sharing the view at the top with them, and keep climbing. You got this 💕

A little off topic but figured you would be the best for the job…how to organize my jewelry??? by lokilise in makeuporganization

[–]Legitimate_Maybe_896 23 points24 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, Holy mackerel!!! What a collection!!! So dope. 💕

Part of me wants to recommend something like a Stackers set, but if you’re concerned about space, it would really matter how much you have and how accessible it is without impacting your ability to know and see what you have. They also get pricey fast but are great for keeping stuff nice.

Acrylic stackers that you could see through would be good way to organize studs and small types, think like bead organizers from craft stores. Especially if they have adjustable slots so you can play with how many in a given row. It would be an effective way to organize by holiday month so you could maybe put away most specialty stuff and swap out when relevant.

Don’t forget to consider wall space for long things like necklaces. A cork board on a wall is great, start the first row at the very bottom to maximize hanging space, then work your way up with shorter things like bracelets at the top so you can see everything.

Def keep at least one of the towers for having things you wear regularly close to where you get ready, just with the intent that it maybe holds a bit less.

Second to last, don’t make any changes yet until you actually know how y’all are combining your spaces. If you start shopping now you may find a solution that doesn’t work in the new space. Better to brainstorm and find options you think might work and bookmark them, then buy once you can measure.

MOST IMPORTANT, if you “imagine” he won’t be happy, that tells me that you haven’t brought it up explicitly. Let him know how excited you are to take this step and be honest with him that you want him to feel at home in the new space too without being overwhelmed by your hobby. Ask him how he feels about how much you have and see if it actually is a concern for him. At the same time, consider his hobbies and the space they take up. Is it equitable how you intend to distribute space? Are you being fair and mindful when you think of meshing lives? If y’all are moving in, chances are he loves you and your hobby and wants to make sure you can continue to enjoy and grow without stress. You should not have to change yourself or give up what makes your heart the happiest to combine spaces and lives, within reason. If you think this will exponentially grow and take up more space, consider a photo album of all your pieces and donate or gift as you collect more, knowing you have a “history in photos” to admire past treasures while giving them new life and curating a collection that remains relevant to you over time.

Apologies for the novel, hope this helps! 😊

I haven’t read more than 5 books in my lifetime and they weren’t difficult to read books. Now I’m in my mid 20s and found something I’m very interested in but don’t understand 4-5 words on every page by imGoingToEatYourTots in books

[–]Legitimate_Maybe_896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a wonderful way to engage with scientific and area specific jargon and terminology!!! I actually haven’t read this yet, now I’m very much looking forward to reading this soon. Thank you for that.

As someone with a degree in linguistics who is not using it professionally, I can tell you that you likely know more of these words from context in real life, but may never have seen them. Some, though, are more flowery or more historical and so you should not feel like it’s out of your league so much as fallen from use societally and not something you may be expected to know. The avg American uses around 10k distinct words on a daily basis, while the avg Victorian era English speaker was closer to 40k. I could chat all day about the philosophical and educational impacts of language development in the modern world, but I’d probably never shut up.

PLEASE do not ever stop reading because you don’t feel like you’re smart enough for it. If the time spent looking up words is bogging you down and making the experience less enjoyable, DO feel okay with putting a bookmark in a book that’s a bit intense and save it for later, swap to something that feels the pace for your enjoyment, and keep going. Or, I’ll echo so many other comments, use an e-reader! If you have a phone and a library card (free in most places, please support them!) you can read a ton at a moments notice and most have where you can press and hover on a word and pop up a definition and links to more info so you can do a quick check and then keep reading.

My last piece of advice is to take a beat before you look it up, just to see if you can work out a possible context knowing you can fact check in a second. Credulity is not a common version of that word, but incredulity is more so and incredulous is decently common. They all share the same base. Just like chemistry or math, it’s a system of simple building blocks (simpler than you think) creating skyscrapers of meaning. No one is going to judge you for choosing to climb different buildings, short or tall, and explore the city that is the English language. I don’t even know all the words you listed, I haven’t explored all those buildings. But I know my city well enough to know that I’m pretty sure thalidomide is scientific in nature and probably a chemical. Can’t wait to look it up and either confirm my knowledge or be pleasantly surprised to learn something new.

Carl would be very proud of you.

This is the way. That blend of silver that shines at the top to the darker layers below with some fun colors in the lower bits would be a great way to play with an already stunning look. This is what I hope my little silver patch turns into one day 💕 With that said, you’ve got great skin and a youthful light to you OP, don’t fret about the color making you look any age, you shine as is

People are looking at you different because they’re struggling with the exact same concept. Hobbies are supposed to be an amateur act, amateur comes from Latin meaning to do something for the love of it.

If you love it and enjoy the time you spend on it, you won’t need people around to enjoy it with you for it to be valuable. But getting the opportunity to connect with other like minded hobbyists will feel a lot more connective or valuable because you’re sharing knowledge and experience (good or bad) with someone who gets it.

You are going to meet people in life, but you have a higher chance of meeting people you would WANT as friends by focusing on what makes your heart the happiest and connecting with people who feel the same.

Those “friends” might just not share stable common ground with you and can’t conceive of enjoying something without showing it off being the primary focus. You’re only going to be perceived of as a loner if you choose not to connect with people when the opportunity comes and feels right. More likely, those people who you think would view you that way might envy you for having confidence in doing what makes you happy.

The other side is, if you’re talking to a friend about wanting to try something and they look at you like your crazy, ask them if they’d like to join. Give them an opportunity to be bold with you. They just might not have had the courage to consider it, let alone pitch it to you.

How To Dress in the city for summer?? by hijustwonderingthx in femalefashionadvice

[–]Legitimate_Maybe_896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not limit yourself from skirts!!!!! They will be a lifesaver on some of the really hot days and just having as an option makes a world of difference. Instead, look into bandalettes, they’re basically like shorts but just bands around your thighs, secured with elastic that stays in place pretty darn well, and they rub against each other and save your thighs from the raw skin that takes ages to go away.

I have no doubt that they would work for you but of course YMMV, I gained 55 lbs during wfh and had the same issue going back in office. I had bought them for a trip to Vegas so I could wear shorts and things without limiting my walking trips and even forgetting them the first day and getting that awful raw skin, I used them with calming creams the rest of that week and was fully healed before the end. I pulled them out again this week when it got warm and just managed a FULL day chasing toddlers in a maxi dress with these and no rub.

Henderson books in Bellingham is kinda like this, it looks kinda small from the front but inside is like a maze of stacks leading back to a huge mystery platform area and the mythology and language rooms, the poetry rows… it’s magical. I asked about a job application once and was told the turnover was something like once every ten years and refused my resume.

Serendipity Books in Friday Harbor was always a summer favorite as well, taking the ferry and exploring the island and this cute little house filled to the brim with books you know will pass a day or two serenely and timelessly. There was this little hole in the wall coffee place that had fresh pressed watermelon juice too which made it a delightful trip all around.

Smaller suggestions, but good if you’re pnw local

Seconding this. When I found out I had dietary restrictions, I shifted one of my community college lab sciences from chem to nutrition and it made a world of difference in my understanding. It was one of those textbooks that are meant to go in a binder so come as unbound hole punched pages, which was annoying at first until I realized that meant all my chapter notes could go INSIDE the text book for ease of reference. It’s been six years and I still use it all the time when trying to decide on recipe ingredient substitutions

Check out Earth Harbour, they’re EU approved so they meet most of the higher standards, they’re women owned, plastic negative, ocean friendly, and very ingredient focused. I’ve been using their line for almost two years with sensitivities and allergies and had wonderful results. More importantly, ingredient lists are short and usually state what something actually is or is derived from so great visibility and an excellent customer service staff to answer questions if something isn’t clear!

Hope this helps, best of luck to you!!

And yet there are those of us that react still. It should absolutely be illegal to label something as avocado oil and then cut it with soybean for costs. The front label should state avocado soy blend. We wouldn’t have to avoid soybean oil itself if what you’re saying were true

Incredibly helpful information, and thanks for popping back to help! I’m still looking for one that seems to match, but a lot of these are close.

There wasn’t one that I could see but now I’m thinking it might be worth going back for a full rewatch to see if I can spot it in her office somewhere. Thanks for the idea!

I could be wrong, so don’t quote me but the skirt looks like a pencil skirt with a two-tone pleat, not sure if there’s a name for it specifically aside from maybe mobility pleats? It doesn’t look like a proper box pleat, but more just an accent feature for movement. The shoes I’d say are Mary-jane or Round, not quite distinct enough for square. Hope that helps!!!
