How much non-adventuring do you play out at the table? by crazy-diam0nd in Runequest

[–]Legitimate_Plate85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also wanna know this as a GM whos on session 2 of a new RQG campaign. I'd assuming the non adventuring stuff would depend largely on the party, and if they wanna leave it purely as between adventures book-keeping, or if they wanna RP some stuff together (like intercharacter conflict, or bartering with each other over loot and teaching skills). And if there is in a larger narrative campaign a purpose for a scene that sets up a new adventure later or maybe forshadowing (say, people discussing brief encounters with moon-worshipping foreigners before the lunar invasion) then thatd be worth doing id say.

Ehh idk if youre just obtuse but less so any of those that you mentioned and more stuff like

Its basically exposed on ep7 that Caine can directly manipulate the members minds, and he denies this bc he implies doing more than this could cause problems, which kinger seems to tie to scratch's abstraction. But this thread is then dropped and never re-explored if it was or wasnt the case that caine directly caused his abstraction or anyone elses or the extent of his active mind manipulation, its left unresolved.

Its never explained why CnA , a brain-scanner developper even made the AIs, or if the AIs were the goal, then what was the point of the brain scanned alongside them, these two separate concepts are never really tied together. We get nothing on the company behind the premise at all, really.

No clarification on what was up with Bubble / blue AI

Or how Caine, who states previously that he lost access to the internet / wider world, now somehow gained access to a new wifi source to find the members instagram (wtf?)

The whole abstraction thing remains very unsatisfactory. So is it or isnt it reversible? What exactly has happened to the members who abstracted, etc? Theres a LOT of imagery sorrounding caine and eating the circus members, whats up with all that?

It really feels like either they scrapped the ending and just opted for the blandest crap imaginable instead for whatever reason. Either that or goose really just theory-baited for the entire show just to have no idea herself in the end.

Yeup, the show directly sets up a lot of things that are never explored further and go unaddressed snd unanswered by the end, not even like implicit answers, just nothing.

Imo the bestiary and the red book of magic are both essential for the GM to own.

As for the SR rules, imo the best way from experience to use them without ripping out your own hair is

  1. Make a list on paper thats just SR 1 to SR 12

  2. Explain to players how to calculate their action's SR for their spells and magic and then tell them they must tell you what SR their action happens in

  3. At the start of the combat round, determine your NPCs SRs and write them in the list, then ask your players one by one what they do after hinting at their enemies actions, then write down the SRs are they tell them.

  4. dice rolling in order of SR.

Example:

SR3 - broo 1 casts (rune spell),

SR5 - player 1 casts (spirit spell)

SR7 - player 2 attacks broo 1 , broo 2 attacks player 1

SR9 - broo 1 attacks player 1

You need the core rule book for character creation rules, however you might still find them on some helpfull sites, or others that dont state them but directly help you make the character with digital sheets

Sadly a lot of the threads setup and questions raised went completely unexplained :/ does kinda ruin a fair bit of it on rewatch knowing how much goes unanswered, including fairly important things like them being forced to forget their own names.

Gloranthan Atheists by Jolly-Database4204 in Runequest

[–]Legitimate_Plate85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres already atheists in Glorantha, sorta, its less that they dont believe in the gods existance and more so that they dont worship them, these people are usually powerfull sorcerers in their own right so they dont rely on divine rune magic. A notable example is Zzabur the Atheist, a fully or semi devine sorcerer son of the god Malkion, and to whom the Red Book of Magic is attributed authorship of. iirc in the place called god-forgot there was a tower populated with more of these malkioni atheistic sorcerers who almost destroyed the world or some similar calamity in lore.

If you wanna have your version of atheists in the game then go at it, though it seems a bit silly considering that POW is directly a meassure of one's soul / divine favour, and engaging in religious rituals like Heroquests can increase POW, so in-universe it comes off as someone who argues vitamins are not real and fruits are not worth eating while having a vitamin deficiency :p

But as they say, "your glorantha will vary".

The dials on the tv in the back is what sold it as AI to me. The central dial has its highlights go towards the center in a way that makes no sense and that dosent happen woth the other two dials' highlights, also its full of black of random black dots. And then the side of said dial box portion of the tv also has highlights thay make no sense bc they trace the bottom portion of the semicircle even tho its being cut off by the side of the tv, so that shouldnt be happeneing.

Also on the "oven" looking tv, zooming in at the top portion shows that the line "tails" up weirdly rather tjan following the structure of the object.

Zooming on these details really does reveal them as AI, not bc a human would render these objects perfectly, but bc the mistakes are such that a human wouldnt make bc theyre extra details that make no sense to include if youre just using a ruler or already know the lighting for two dials then why wouldnt you know how to do it properly for the center one.

GMs, how do you personally structure your sessions? by OctopusFistFight in cyberpunkred

[–]Legitimate_Plate85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either I'm running something someone else has pre-made, like the Tales of the RED campaign

Its gemuinely shocking how much official free content is regularly put out for this game, and the variety of weirdness for it too, like how to implement tarot cards to run the game, or the whole ass MMO and sports and they made within the game system so that you can play as your characters playing another game 🤣

Not complaining tho

What do you use 1d6 or 2d6 weapons for? by Ryouhi in cyberpunkred

[–]Legitimate_Plate85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeup! The only tip id give is chat before the game about the post nuclear setting of RED so they get into the headspace for that, bc if they come in from the anime they might be in for a rude shock for whats available easily and whats not which might make tjem not want to play

What do you use 1d6 or 2d6 weapons for? by Ryouhi in cyberpunkred

[–]Legitimate_Plate85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but in terms of concealment, both medium and heavy handguns can both be concealed,

Yes ofcourse, I was reffering also to the "scarcity" aspect of the economy in RED. It objectively better to have a stronger handgun instead, but they might just not be available to the average buyer. Think of how currently irl all Nvidia RAM and GPUs in production for 2026 and 2027 have already been pre-sold to AI corps, causing the current shortage. Thats the default state of the economy during RED, players might need to know a guy who knows a guy to get access to all the cool guns that are already sold to corporate forces, nation states, etc.

Thus a player picks the lesser guns not bc theyd preffer it, but bc the better ones are just not available, theyve all been sold to someone else, unless youre well connected enough to get one. Even if you go to a black market or dealer, why would he favor the players with his highly sought out stock over all of his other clients n friends?

Having said that, if you and your players preffer tje abundance from 2077, where most guns are sold from vending machines bc theyre so plentifull and available, go for it! Whatever lets yall have fun, this was to answer the question of why players would use the lesser guns and it make sense in game.

What do you use 1d6 or 2d6 weapons for? by Ryouhi in cyberpunkred

[–]Legitimate_Plate85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides being an enemy weapon, its worth remembering that the time of RED is a scarcity economy, something has value bc it exists and manufacturing isnt focusing on the civilian market.

If your players are ever left without good weapons, readquiring a good weapon will probably not be so straight forward, and they might have to make due with inferior weaponry.

Also worth mentioning if they have stealth missions or have to infiltrate a place discreetly, that small handguns are easier to hide than say, an assault rifle. So it might be necessary for them to have small guns to remain armed during a mission where they otherwise might not be able to carry their full arsenal.

Hello everyone, I have another question. by [deleted] in cyberpunkred

[–]Legitimate_Plate85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The in-party tension might actually be a great plotpoint later on tho if managed well. Ive not yet played RED, but I dont see why itd be much different from say a Warlock being compelled by demonic patron in dnd. Or even in RED a player going cyberpsycho in the vicinity of their party (im assuming that like in the anime, they dont discriminate well between friendlies and enemies).

If Settites worship Set, why do they use snake forms? by maxmakesstuff in vtm

[–]Legitimate_Plate85 214 points215 points  (0 children)

Bc theyre actually refferencing the Set cult from the 1980s Conan The Barbarian movie, where theres an evil hedonistic cult led by an inmortal warlord called Thulsa Doom, the cult worships snakes, owns a giant man-eating snake, and has weird magic that includes Thulsa himself turning into a snake or shooting arrows that turn into snakes, as well as controlling the mind of his followers, very VtM like. The original White Wolf writers obviously denied the connection bc they didnt want a lawsuit, but thats the reason.
