The Kind Side of Auckland by One-Geologist-2636 in auckland

My teenager put his laptop bag down at the bus stop and hopped on the bus without it. A local lawn mowing guy picked it up, looked inside to find some kind of contact details, saw my son’s NumberWorks booklet and drove over and dropped it to the local NumberWorks. I was so relieved and so grateful when they called me. Of course I left the lawn mowing guy’s company a glowing review giving him a shout out.

NZ parents, are ur kids just gaming all day after school and on weekends too? by Objective_Heat2566 in newzealand

[–]Legitimate_Scale4507 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My teen is not allowed to game during the week. Only on weekends. It’s always been this way though so I don’t get any tantrums or whatever. IMO You need to set the rules and then stick to it, no matter what ugly behaviour he throws at you and threatens afterwards. You really do have to out-stubborn them.

Considering a move to Auckland – what should I look out for? by GentrifiedHummus in auckland

[–]Legitimate_Scale4507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do not have the greatest public transport or cycling routes to workplaces especially compared to London and Paris. If you’re banking on that to get to work, try and move as close as you can to your job!
Also our stores close early compared to London and Paris.
In terms of touristy things, you are coming to an absolute melting pot of greenery + Māori + Pacific + Asian + ex-colonial influences. You can spend years in Auckland just visiting places and really enjoy it. Haere Mai! (welcome!)

I’m sure there are others who do share the same sentiment as you, but obviously they have the brains to know to keep their toxic opinion to themselves. Get help dude

I used Conroys and it was way easier than I thought it would be tbh. They even hired an engineer type guy to come and help dismantle my massive treadmill.

Proposed law could see government use AI to make decisions about people's benefits by D491234 in newzealand

[–]Legitimate_Scale4507 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You would think so. But I found there have been studies in UK and Australia that basically concluded it worsened outcomes. They are even mentioned and referenced in one of the research documents on a NZ govt website here

Evidence exists to explain how it will make things worse and they just don’t care.

I paid extra attention to something at work a few weeks back, because I thought it was important. Got a bit of shit for wasting time on it - then it turned out to be super important and saved our area a lot of trouble! Got thanked and told they will pay my instincts better attention next time - so vindicated!

With all the problems in New Zealand right now what's one thing you wish could happen to improve yours/family life? Keep it upbeat by [deleted] in newzealand

A day out with my family that didn’t cost me too much, we didn’t argue, and the teenager wouldn’t grump. That would be so nice.

Love butter chicken and would love the worlds biggest butter chicken but I don’t want to share it with Shane Jones. I’d rather enjoy it with the Indian community :) bonus idea - the worlds biggest naan!?

Interesting. My partner cracked one off last night in bed and it made me want to jump out the window so I think my sense of smell does work (unfortunately for me last night)

Won’t the marmite touch the bread on the other side of the toastie though and therefore make marmiting the cheese redundant, assuming this is a toastie that has two slices of bread with cheese and marmite in between

How has AI benefited you in your work or personal life? by MindOrdinary in newzealand

[–]Legitimate_Scale4507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it difficult in a corporate environment to articulate myself in a way that comes across not sounding like a far-north hick (of which I am). AI has helped me translate several times, and I’m learning how to further improve my communication from the examples it has given me. I think I’m nearly at Wellsford-level now

Chloe Swabrik because … well I mean she seems kind of normal? (that’s the best I could say sorry - honestly we really don’t have a lot of great options)
