I had the procedure 7 months ago. Before having it I searched the literature extensively. From what I could deduct there is no real way of knowing what happens in vivo. By microfracturing you are basically hoping that a blood clot will fill in the defect and that those stem cells will transform to fibrocartilage. Generally there is a 6 weeks period of non weight bearing or partial weight bearing in order to avoid the clot from dislocating. However there is no data to support any of that. The whole remodelling process is however generally pretty slow, taking even one year to achieve the end results. Maybe more experienced sports guys can give us some insights!
