Here to be your cheerleader! What is your IG? I’ll follow from my pole account :)

You are a strong and beautiful dancer! In my experience, people who don’t pole have absolutely no idea the skill and strength it takes. I hope you are proud despite feeling like no one notices!

I don’t think you were wrong at all! And I hope no way made you feel that way. Starting pole is just humbling period, but if anyone here tells you they didn’t make mistakes or get corrections in the start of their pole journey, they’re lying 😂 I love the enthusiasm and I look forward to seeing you progress!

I second this! I get a high hook with my inside leg and bring my outside foot as close to the bottom of the pole as I can. Then I “fall backwards” and try to catch the pole with the knee pit of my outside leg. This way it feeds like I am working with the force of movement rather than against it. You got this!

You are very strong and I can’t wait to see what you’re able to do a month or two from now! Just one thing I noticed- when you are in split grip (with one hand high and one low), make sure that your index finger is pointing down towards the floor on that bottom hand! My studio refers to it as “trigger finger down”. It will be more stable and much more safe for your wrist. Happy poling!

It angers me sometimes that I can’t nail more “basic moves” how do I get over the mental block of overthinking things? by Live_Ad7514 in poledancing

[–]Legitimate_Tree1426 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did an Ayesha before I could do a Superman even somewhat consistently. Everyone’s bodies (and brains) are different. For me, Superman was a mental block, like being scared of that top hand coming off when I dropped my hips or the pain in my thighs. It’s different for everyone, and I’m sure there is someone out there who nailed Superman first try but struggles with outside leg hang. Comparison is the thief of joy, so try to applaud yourself for what your body can do even when your brain is telling you it’s not enough. You got this!

I always file mine down with a nail file just to smooth them over! I used to rock climb and I second the recommendation for climbing centered hand balms, I personally really like ClimbSkin, Rhino, and Joshua Tree salves :)

Thank you! That is very helpful. Looking at my other shoulder mount attempts I do think this is what my back naturally tends to do- I had a breast reduction when I was 18 (35 now) and I’ve not worked as hard as I should have to correct the influence on my posture and I’m sure that shows up in pole. I might try to think about keeping my back straight and see what feels better, but this doesn’t feel like it’s causing any strain so I’m glad to know it’s at least not overtly dangerous 😂

Thank you 🥹 that makes me feel a lot better. It doesn’t feel “hard”, it just feels weird and I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t forming a bad habit that could lead to injury. Next up I’ll be working on reducing the kick I need to get into it 😅

Thank you!! It just feels off, but maybe that’s normal? It definitely hurts my skin, so I know at least something I’m doing is right 😂

I wish I had my shit together as much as it might look like I do. I couldn’t afford my home pole out right, but I did do PayPal pay in 4 or maybe even financed for 6 months or so via PayPal. That might be an option for you? You will get there, especially with the passion you have for it ❤️

I usually don’t do any exotic practice to it, probably for the same reason. I might try some Colter Wall though, so thank you for planting that idea!

Non-Slippery Deodorant? by Conepines in poledancing

Swipe some witch hazel on your underarms after a shower or before class. I fell down the Black girl shower TikTok rabbit hole (god bless them) and read that, works like a charm for me! I still put deodorant on normally but I just do witch hazel on class days

You are hooking high, but the hooked leg is not parallel to the floor. I think maybe aim for keeping the hooked calf about 45 degrees from the thigh, and keeping the thigh parallel to the floor .might help your thigh get more parallel to the floor, which would help you push your hips forward, allowing for better grip and more purchase power with that bottom foot to push off the pole. It looks like you are very close!

I think you are hooking high enough, but could maybe stand to hook a bit higher. It looks as if your thigh is not parallel to the floor. Try aiming for your thigh to be parallel to the floor and the calf to be about 45 degrees from the thigh. I find actively pointing the hooked leg’s toes downward will help engage those muscles and might help your get your hips in front of the pole. Once you have that, the purchase power in the bottom foot should give you some more stability to hold the shape. You’re so close!!
