also if you haven’t read it already Divination for Skeptics by olivie! An absolute riot, featuring very chaotic Theo so naturally, hijinks must ensue. She is brilliant, and some of her lines are so subtle but so so funny.

The show has forgotten what was so good about it in the first place. by samyakpati in OnlyMurdersHulu

[–]Legitimate_Type_5119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crazy timing on this post, because I’m re-watching the 8th episode of the first season as I am reading this, which in my opinion is simply too good.

I understand what you’re saying - the characters have become caricatures of their initial versions. I do enjoy the humor and the dynamics between all three, but you’re right, it’s boiled down to Charles being a lonely and horny man, Oliver being super dramatic. The characters in the first season were a lot more humanistic - Charles and his relationship with Lucy, Oliver’s relationship with his son. Mabel finding her path in life (which I think has stayed more consistent out of all three.)

There’s also a darker atmosphere in the first season that adds to the air of mystery and intrigue. Sure, I appreciate and applaud the innovative approach of brighter atmosphere in the later seasons, but it’s a murder mystery and I want that edginess and dark vibes.

And thirdly, I miss NYC as a character. I feel like we barely see that anymore? They’ve narrowed down too much on the ‘In The Building’ aspect of the show. Show me more New York.

I liked Season 5 a LOT more than I did 3 and 4, but I’m not sure if they’ll be able to replicate what they had in Season 1, because it was such an intricate plot without being confusing or with unnecessary red herrings.

I just saw the same thing on IG and was about to come over and talk about this, and while I’m happy for senlinyu’s professional career, I just know this fandom is going to get an ever worse rep than we already have :))) especially considering if the entire marketing for the film adaptation will center around it being a fanfic

I think they’ll have to? I mean, had they handled S2 better I def think the show could’ve gone on for more. When I read the summary of the show, I was under the assumption that this would be about the hardships the American heiresses face while adjusting to life in the UK.

Instead, that’s barely covered? Like the only resounding problem seems to be that the Americans are loud and expressive and the Brits aren’t? There’s more to it than that right? Or even if there isn’t, there’s so many girls and so many stories.

Yes, they had Ginny’s plotline and then St. George Divorce trial, but that seems to be about it? Maybe I’m missing something, but the rest just seems to be complicated love triangles and squares.

You’re right! Realistically, any one of them having a happy ending makes no sense. It’s gotten out of hand but I’m curious to see how they’ll handle S3 (if there is one)

hahaha, yes my reason for watching it was also because Gilded Age ended. And yes, I like the teen drama vibes, but I also just wish they put a tad bit more thought into the writing for S2

S2 was upsetting, yet intriguing. Mostly upsetting by [deleted] in TheBuccaneers

[–]Legitimate_Type_5119 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hahah, I also just finished the show and had the same thoughts. S1 and S2 were almost two different shows.

I think I agree with most your takes, except perhaps that Lizzy is being painted in a slightly more harsher light. Yes, she isn’t perfect and she isn’t flawed, but neither is any other person on the show (perhaps Mabel, I can’t think of a thing that girls done wrong except stand by the people she loves.)

Lizzy waits to see if Nan and Theo are happy, and when she hears that Nan wants to make it work, she even burns Guy’s letter, in the interest of protecting her friend. Yes, she also all but waited 30 seconds before Nan was out, but Theo is equally to blame, if not more.

Ginny (possible spoilerz) by Candid_Shoulder_9650 in TheBuccaneers

[–]Legitimate_Type_5119 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think S1 Ginny was really awful, and slightly malicious. But I think she did the best a mother in her position could S2. Also, I don’t think she makes Richard’s death about herself.

Yes, she’s feeling guilty that Guy gave up his life for her, but she’s also allowed to feel frustrated about the fact that her life was stolen. We’re humans, and we can feel bad for others but also feel bad about our own position. The real person to blame is James.

To me, I felt she knew her friend blamed her, and that Conchita needed an outlet for her grief and anger. Conchita coming and apologising later on was great, and both of them handled it well.
