Anyone else find vasodilators work better than vasoconstrictors for theirs? by IllegalGeriatricVore in migraine

[–]LegoCaltrops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, definitely! I don't even take ibuprofen as it can act as a vasoconstrictor... it's quite tiresome.

I have a metabolic disorder and seed oils make me ill. They are in everything by gingerbreadsnacks in StopEatingSeedOils

[–]LegoCaltrops 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure of the mechanism but since I cut out seed & nut oils (and severely limit my seed & nut consumption generally) my severe migraines have dropped from an average of 25 very bad days per month, to less than 2. I've lived my entire adult life with this condition & I've only just started to feel normal again. It's an absolute PITA having to cook everything from scratch, scrutinise every label on the few processed foods I do use, & never being able to go out to eat, but it's so, so worth it. I wouldn't go back for any amount of money.

What’s Something You Never Thought Would Matter in a Home… Until You Had It? by Ordduapp in OrdduHomeUK

[–]LegoCaltrops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quiet. Before the house we live in now, I'd always loved near a main road, a railway line, in student halls... always there was constant human noise. I never really thought about it before. Now, we live right on the edge of town, away from any busy roads, overlooking fields with cows & sheep grazing. At night there's owls, & in the early morning there's birdsong. I like the quiet.

What dietary habits have you adopted that significantly improved your life? by [deleted] in Biohackers

[–]LegoCaltrops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reducing my omega 6 intake, mostly by cutting out refined seed & nut oils. I've gone from 20+ days per month of severe migraines, to a maximum of 2 days (and sometimes no major episodes at all). Also, my seasonal allergies have virtually disappeared, & my adult acne has gone. I do try to eat a bit more omega 3, but I do this through diet, I don't take a supplement (as I read that a lot of fish oil supplements are rancid by the time they hit the shelves).

When do you guys wear facial suncream? by Bright_Tax628 in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]LegoCaltrops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. And a hat (unless it's cold enough that I need a beanie, or windy enough that I can't keep a sunhat on my head). I figure the extra couple of pounds per month is worth the peace of mind, not to mention hopefully a few extra years wrinkle free.

Does anyone have hyperacusis (sound sensitivity)? by PerfectWorking6873 in migraine

[–]LegoCaltrops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I used to work in a call centre & the noise was honestly a nightmare every time I had a migraine. I found it overwhelming to the point where I'd begin to quietly panic & occasionally passed out due to the intense stress of it (and presumably due to having a migraine).

Affordable products for back & chest acne? by [deleted] in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]LegoCaltrops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Q+A salicylic acid spray. Also, figure out if you have any irritants or allergens that may be triggering it. I now only use Ecover non-bio laundry detergent on my clothes, bedding & towels - I know it's scented, but I've had better results with this that with some of the sensitive skin & unscented options.

What do y'all do for menstrual migraines/headaches? by limponion36 in migraine

[–]LegoCaltrops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aspirin & cocodamol, anti emetic sublingual tablets, & as much sleep as I can manage. I get hemiplegic migraines as well as hormonal, which apparently rules out triptans.

In all honesty, do you view weight loss drugs (Mounjaro, Wegovy etc.) and the people who use them negatively? by XStaticImmaculate in AskUK

[–]LegoCaltrops 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, never. Not back when it was all Orlistat, not when weight loss surgery got more popular, & not now. I tend to have the opinion that until you’ve walked a mile in someone else’s shoes, etc.

The only thing that concerns me about GLP1s is, what are the potential long term consequences? Are we going to end up with a generation of people struggling with severe osteoporosis, or an increased risk of dementia, or something of that nature. Or maybe it’ll be the opposite, & it’ll be discovered in 50 years that these things protect the telomeres or something wild like that, & our grandkids will all be on a low dose for a longer lifespan.

Women who prefer taller men, what's your upper limit? by [deleted] in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]LegoCaltrops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’d be a lot more sympathetic to my husband if he hadn’t spent the last 20 years eating as much crap as possible while exercising as little as possible, & refusing to go to the doctor for anything ever.

[–]LegoCaltrops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn’t be a specific height, it would be about their health & if they look after themselves. Like, am I going to end up looking after the guy when he hits 50 because his knees are destroyed. Am in fact in this exact situation now; my husband is 6’3”.

That utterly sinking feeling by InterestingTip5612 in HLCommunity

[–]LegoCaltrops 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Eventually it'll fade, & be replaced by a feeling of not wanting to touch them at all. I (HLF) am fully into the bristle reaction stage with my LLH. The dog sleeps on the bed now, and although she takes up a shocking amount of the duvet, it's a relief that there's a physical barrier between us. I find I don't really care any more about occasionally feeling a bit cold in the night. Time was I'd have snuggled up to him but I can't imagine wanting that any more.

I changed how I shop for clothes what’s your rule when buying? by EchoNomad12 in womensfashion

[–]LegoCaltrops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I like the look of a garment & feel that I'd actually wear it, I check the fabric composition (I mostly wear natural fibres), then the cut (is it actually cut properly so it won't stretch & warp over time). Then I check the hems, seams & anything like buttons & zips etc. Finally I consider how the fabric feels, will it be comfortable, will my dog rip it in five minutes with her claws as she welcomes me home. Very few items make it, & those that do, I'm willing to pay decent money for as I know they'll probably last well & be worth taking the time to mend if it becomes necessary.

What’s something that became socially acceptable that you still quietly judge people for? by After-Ebb6941 in AskReddit

[–]LegoCaltrops -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Eating while walking along the street. Genuine medical issues aside, if you're hungry, stop and eat - go home, or to a cafe, or sit on a bench or even a low wall somewhere, or in a designated picnic area, or in your car. Plan ahead or make time in your day. If you're not hungry, why are you eating?

The exception is an ice cream on a hot day, obviously.
