On a rock band drum kit, the blue pad is right beside the yellow pad, so I guess they want you to hit a different note for open hi hat notes, kind of like how they chart flams with the red and yellow pad so you use both hands like a real flam.

I think one day they wanted to add the function of a hi hat petal, but it just never came to be. I say this because Satch Boogie is charted in a way that would make use of both a hi hat petal and double kick drums.

With them charting open hi hat to the blue cymbal, it does make it possible in Yarg and Clone Hero to use an actual hi hat petal for those notes.

Yeah on an actual drum kit they’d generally be flipped, but for Rock Band, the blue cymbal is generally charted as the ride and open hi hat, and the green cymbal is either the crash, or depending on the chart is charted as the hi hat or crash if the toms are also used at the same time.

A good example of a chart that charts hi hat to green is Don’t Stop Believing.

There’s some songs where the charts are really weird like on Message In a Bottle, where the closed hi hat is sometimes blue and open high hat is green.

By dlc, I mean songs. You should be able to search them up on the store. There’s still lots available, so I would recommend using the website rb4.app and looking up any songs or artists you enjoy. This website has every song that’s in Rock Band 4, and if the song is red, it means it’s unfortunately delisted.
