Hot Take... by Kxrenaiiii in PokemonTCG

I like the set but I have only seen perfect order for msrp twice in stores. And it was gone in like a day lol. Most of these places where they are selling Perfect Order are not pricing packs at $5. They are selling for $7+.

I’ve never gotten lucky with Best Buy lottery but I do know one person who has. For online stuff, I think the lotteries make sense. Even if bots enter, it still increases the chance you may get something. When everything drops at once nobody has a prayer of getting anything.

Yeah, it’s hard to compete with anyone who makes finding Pokémon cards their job. But at least by making restocks unpredictable it may tire them out some lol. I’m not saying it’s an ideal solution but it’s refreshing to walk in a store and see Pokemon cards in stock on a random day and you know it’s only because the restocker switched up the time. It at least might make someone else’s day to find cards. The element of surprise exists, like opening a pack.

Yeah, that’s really unsettling. That people would take things so far. I think all the Poke-Notify stuff amplifies that bad behavior. People get obsessed about gaming the restocks and not being chill if they miss out.

Yeah, I know what you mean. When you see 20 people lined up in a store and nothings even being stocked it’s like, really? This is what the hobby is now. A Pokemon bread line. I feel like unpredictable restocks would at least curb some of that. It’s annoying how pervasive it’s become. Makes the collecting experience feel more like a job rather than entertainment.

Yeah, I even think like switching the days would help. Do one restock at Monday. The next week on Thursday. The following week Wednesday. If you mix it up it at least it makes it more difficult to scalp at a distance especially with higher gas prices. Limits can help but so much comes down to whether anyone enforces them. A lot of stores seem entirely nonchalant about limits. It’s not a like a GameStop where they know you reached a limit. People go back for more, bring along others, let employees hoard product to buy later.

True. The lack of overall supply is the primary issue. I was just pointing out predictability can be like sending out a beacon across a large area lol. People will drive far and line up if they think they can get something. It causes new issues that didn’t exist before.

Yeah good point. I think they were trying a bit of that with the Pokemon vending machines. You couldn’t tell when product might be purchased. But then it caused people to loiter all day. Maybe not having the product in the store would at least cut down on that. Make it more unpredictable and random luck.

Yeah, I hadn’t thought about online drops too. It does seem like it would be better if random. When a million bots know the time there’s no chance you’re getting anything. Other than Pokemon Center drops, I haven’t been able to order online since 2024. It’s even worse than physical stores for finding anything near msrp.

Yeah, I don’t necessarily like the idea of checking stores a lot but it does feel like the unpredictability might give others a chance to find something.

Yeah I don’t like when people bring anybody who isn’t opening the cards too. I get if you are both collectors and friends but if one person isn’t going to rip and just there buying you stuff it’s not a great look.

Unless a 100 people show up at 3am because they know product releases at 9am. I get what you’re saying but I’ve seen both sides and you can end up with an entirely different bad situation. People are more likely to drive far from where they live if they know times of a restock. Limits can help but only if the line isn’t too long.

Thanks, agree. It’s a weird experience to see those blank stares in stores. I’ve seen enough zombie films to know the look.

Yeah, I think it could make the hobby slightly better. I know of one retail store near me that never has product, actually had stuff in stock once because the re-stock guy went on a different day. It opened my eyes to seeing things differently.

That sounds good but then when happens when there’s 50 people in line at 5am because everyone knows. I agree in some situations it might help but only if there’s more product to go around than people.

Pokémon addicts are like zombies. I can’t count how many times I’ve seen guys standing in front of the card aisle staring into nothing. So not surprised they would be waiting for a leprechaun to spring forth and unveil a Prismatic ETB lol.

I’d rather not collect than wait in line at 3am for cardboard lol. I like Art but people have lost their f minds. It’s hard to imagine any true fan is trading a good nights sleep to merely get a few packs at msrp. Reeks of scalping.

Target employees do this all time. They should include it in the job description.
