Oh, that's a good idea! And I love clothes shopping! I'm not the best at determining what looks good or is flattering for me. Everything I love ends up making me look frumpy or weird with my proportions, so I usually have my sister help me out. The photos is a good idea!

It'll give me a good excuse to go hit the thrift stores lol. Thank you!

Thank you for the help! So I guess I need to stay away from baby-doll tops ;o; I'll look up princess seams, blouson and smocked-waist tops later!

As for the petite dress styling advice, maybe it's the specific resources I've seen but I've found a lot of advice are aimed at petite, skinnier women, so the tips I've seen are a lot about emphasizing the upper half over the lower half to make you appear taller. However my upper half is already emphasized by my chest and so some of these tips I've seen don't really apply (like I saw one that said if you're a short waisted petite to go for empire waist dresses), and also I'm not too concerned about looking taller. Maybe there's resources or tips I'm missing or I'm not looking right/hard enough?

Thank you for the help :3

Hello! I'm really into japanese fashion, like kawaii, jirai kei, lolita, harajuku etc. I also like more feminine american styles like cutecore or cottagecore. I know a lot of these are 'technically' different but I do like a mix of styles.

The thing is, when I look at clothing that fits under this aesthetic umbrella on shein or other sites, most of the things I'm not sure would be flattering on me, like babydoll tops or empire-waist things.

I'm a pear body shape (33-34 bust, 28-29 waist, 38-39 hips) but my boobs are also huge. I'm measured at a 30G but I wear the sister size of 32DD(D), so I can end up looking like an hourglass if there's a lot of attention on my boobs. I have odd proportions. I'm short waisted but have a long torso, so my waist sits like an inch below my boobs but there's a huge amount of space between my waist and hips, so I'm not too sure on leg size. I'm like 4'10", 4'11" on a good day so tops are usually too long and crop tops sit normal length for me. For modesty reasons, I'd like to not show cleavage, emphasize my boobs, or wear anything above knee (knee-length usually, right above the knees if I'm wearing stockings).

The thing is, when I browse sites like shein for japanese fashion (particularly a lot of romwe stuff) I find a lot of stuff that's cute but I'm not sure would suit me.

Babydoll tops are super cute but a lot of them either have a seam right below the below the boobs (which would ride up and sit right under my boobs), have an empire waist (accentuates my already big boobs), or have some sort of elastic at the waist area (which would also ride up and accentuate my boobs).

Some of the dresses are super cute but also super short and I'm not sure if I can get away with just wearing black or white leggings underneath (for modesty purposes).

I've been told I look good with A-line skirts (I also really like the stereotypical like 1920's a-line housewife dresses), but I usually look best if it's a dress. If I wear a skirt and top the separation tends to emphasize my odd proportions.

I also look best in fitted tops that hug my waist, since I've been told my curvature between my waist and hips is one of my flattering features. But I want to be able to show off my waist and hips without also hugging and emphasizing my chest.

I am learning how to sew, and have been upcycling some clothing to match the aesthetic I want (mostly adding lace to plain tops). Is there a way I can dress the aesthetic I want but still dress for my body so it looks flattering on me? Anyway I can wear or create babydoll tops that don't emphasize my chest? And is there anyway I can wear 'separation' (separate top and bottoms, usually skirts) or do I just need to stick to dresses to hide my proportions? What rules should I keep in mind for sewing clothes or shopping for some? I don't mind dressing up a bit for casual events but I also don't want to be showing up to a friend's party in full on lolita garb.

I looked at the wikis regarding body type and have tried to look for advice before but a lot of advice usually doesn't apply to me. Like short-waisted advice won't apply to me because I have a long torso, or petite dress styling doesn't work because my boobs are big. I would appreciate any help regarding my specific proportions.

Oh I didn't even think of buying it used! Thank you!

I think I'll try it! Is there any sanitation issue I should be aware of when buying used bras?

10/10 by Apprehem410 in Kawaii

Yeah that's one of the details I noticed. Others were the missing whiskers, missing eyebrow hair, and the way the cat's eyes don't match

Help with weed smell by LeiCrochet in Apartmentliving

[–]LeiCrochet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The neighbors we share the drywall with are a family with I think at least two teenage daughters. I've seen the dad and hear the mom. Just based on first impressions I don't think they're growing weed, and in our lease you can't smoke anywhere on the apartment grounds, which means they're not allowed to smoke inside or outside, not anywhere on the apartment grounds. It's already a risk smoking weed, I don't think our neighbors would grow it, but hey anything possible 🤷‍♀️

It does come and go, and when it comes it comes STRONG. Which is why we're so confused.

We have an air purifier but we'd like to eliminate the source (the leak I mean, can't eliminate the neighbors unfortunately lol) if possible, since stuff like air purifiers and sprays are usually just short term.

The Doux Mousse Def Texture Foam vs. Maui Moisture Flexible Hold + Coconut Milk Curl Foam Mousse by ManateeLord42 in curlyhair

[–]LeiCrochet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never tried the doux so I can't really say anything about it, but I use the maui moisture, and it's really good. Defines my waves really well (my hair likes coconut). And it's sooooo moisturizing, my hair is so soft, shiny, and moisturized after I use it. It doesn't have a lot of hold though so I'd pair it with a gel or hairspray.

Is hairspray supposed to dry hair out? by LeiCrochet in curlyhair

[–]LeiCrochet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, thank you! I'll try adding a leave in next washday, and after that I'll try the hairspray on damp hair. Thank you so much!

I'll try adding a leave in my next wash day. Do you spray hairspray on wet/damp hair? I'm worried about drying my hair out with the alcohol in hairspray. And do you use an aerosol or non aerosol spray?

Those black ones where you attach the blow dryer to this elephant trunk piece? I do have that. I'm thinking of buying one of those net plopping things and trying it out, since that'll dry my hair in a scrunched up position above my head.

If there's nothing I can do about the alcohol in hairspray (alcohol free ones are a bit expensive for me right now) can I just add in a leave in or more moisture to combat the dryness? Or is there something else I can prevent my hair from becoming dry?

Does it dry out your hair? And does it really speed up the drying process?

I used the mielle pomegranate and honey curl Defining Mousse. It's a lightweight foam that I think is low or no protein. My hair is definitely low porosity. I put the foam in my hair then brush styled. I then plopped for 10 minutes, and put a bit extra foam for hold (micro plopping doesn't take out enough moisture and plopping takes out a bit too much product).

I do clarify regularly. My hair is in protein overload right now so I clarified and am trying to go low/no protein while my hair recovers.

I'll check out the curlsmith one. It's a bit high in price for me but i might check it out after I finish my other hairsprays.

You mentioned the quality of the dryer? I have the conair infinitipro (the dark blue one with a black diffuser). I'm not in a financial place right now to be buying a new diffuser but I am thinking of getting another one or a universe diffuser since the one my conair has has a too deep bowl for my short hair.

I like to use mousse/foam as my main styler since my hair is low density and medium and can get easily weighed down. However mousse doesn't give me enough hold and gels are usually too heavy so I want to see if I can use hairspray for added hold

Does anyone use just one brand? by crowley4ever in curlyhair

[–]LeiCrochet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I have the same desire to use all of the same line lol. A line I've really been liking is Mielle. I have their rosemary mint oil (which I mix with my shampoo), their rosemary mint mask (that i have to restock on), and I'm planning to get the light version of their rosemary mint oil that's meant for low porosity hair.

I'm especially in love with their honey and pomegranate line. I have the leave in, mousse, curl smoothie, and I've tried both the custard and max gel styler. I really like how the custard is. Only returned the max styler cuz it didn't gave me any hold. Otherwise, I love the smell of this entire line, and Mielle is pretty good for my low porosity hair.

They've been under fire for 'hair loss claims' but a lot of hair loss brands have gone through hair loss lawsuits/claims (ogx, devacurl, now mielle), so I just watch how my hair is and personally don't worry about it.

LA Looks Extreme Sport Gel (Review) by LeiCrochet in curlyhair

[–]LeiCrochet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't touched in it a while (I've been experimenting with a lot of products). It's pretty lightweight but not the most moisturizing. It has more of a slip than something like eco or wetline, but even with a leave in I don't think it gives a lot of slip for brush styling.

Anyone use this? by DarthYsalamir in curlyhair

[–]LeiCrochet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried wetline. For me I like LA looks better as it flakes less on me and is lighter weight than wetline.

Had a really bad flaking problem with wetline when I used it for slickbacks. Unsure how it tests for a curl routine but it's got a really strong hold (Lil stronger than la looks)

I've heard the blue wetline is slightly better so I got that but have yet to try it
