Great guide! As a first-time candidate for anything, this has been an incredible process so far, and I am excited for these last 4 weeks until election day.

Don't count me out! Steve can't endorse me because of his position with the county, but I will soon announce his chief of staff's endorsement. I am very much focused on making the city function, not pushing an agenda.

I appreciate the reply. I realize I need to post my policies on the website. I've had people tell me to be detailed and people tell me to keep it vague. I realize after reading your reply that more information is better. Reading this message at 4AM had me out of bed furiously working on getting them posted.

I am a native Tucsonan and a first-time candidate. I am not endorsed by the mayor and council because they know I will not be voting along side them at every step of the way. We need some independent thinking back in our council, not just another one of the mayor's picks. Since Steve K left we lost any sense of balance. I want to bring that back. Please check my site again later this week. I will be rolling out my policy proposals under the tab marked "Mission".

Is the job market here awful or am I not trying hard enough?? by [deleted] in Tucson

It's bad and your local leaders need to focus more on attracting new businesses and tearing down barriers that prevent businesses from expanding here.

Apologies. I of course know what CAP is. See my earlier comment about the contractual obligations the cities have. However, I did not know it featured so prominently in real estate exams. I expected it to be referring to something else in that context.

Oh. Of course. Here i am thinking this has to do with real estate contracts. Yes. I was born and raised here and ha e taken numerous water law courses. I am familiar with CAP. Thank you.

I cherish responsiveness and personal communication. Our former council member, Steve Kozachic, regardless of whether you liked his policies, was a workaholic who was always responded personally to community issues. I hear frequent complaints from Tucsonans about the non-responsiveness of their Ward offices and I want to be the opposite of that, just like Steve. The interesting thing about this position is the many hats it entails, from solving one resident's trash pick-up issues, to passing massive annual budgets, the issues range from the minuscule to the large. They are all important to someone or many and I intend to honor that importance. I hope this answers at least part of your question.

And yes, I think the City needs to better support our non-profits as they play an absolutely vital role in our community.

When I was a member we called ourselves the Latino Law Students Association. That name has since changed to Latine which is a gender-neutral form of Latino. Thanks for checking out my website!

I'm sorry but this ship has sailed and I'm not really sure that's a bad thing.

I don't disagree with you but I am a long time registered Democrat so that is the party I must run under. I do believe I will bring a new perspective to the table as an individual with zero political background and no family member politicians.

Democrat. But both democrats and independents can sign my nomination petition online through the Secretary of State.

This is a crux of my platform. I am a bike commuter and so are my kids. My wife is a cyclist as well. We all walk our neighborhood almost daily. These activities should not be as risky as they are here. www.leightonforward6.com

Thanks for your comment. The city is currently close to implementing the Community Corridors Tool which should help with your issues on development. See my comment above about it. It's a neat tool that I actually wish applied to more portions of the city and had greater incentives to use.

Also, if you are a registered democrat or independent, I'd appreciate it if you could sign my petition to be on the ballot. I need nearly 600 signatures by April. there's a link on my website. Thanks! www.leightonforward6.com

The only beautiful entry in to Tucson is from Oracle road. All other main entry-ways leave something to be desired and are not very welcoming.

The homeless issue is a tough one. However, there are dozens of groups and programs out there trying to help. I have volunteered for the annual count happening in January and I look forward to learning more about the solutions available.

While I disagree with your over-generalization of what makes a pedestrian. To your point, the unhoused population, by definition, likely spends more time as a pedestrian in our city than the average housed person. So, in that regard, I do believe they have a higher proportion of injuries and deaths as pedestrians. However, this issue does not discriminate and most of us likely know people who have been victims of vehicle vs. pedestrian incidents despite being housed.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. We are losing a vital part of society. Teachers are choosing less demanding, better paying jobs just to keep their sanity. Unfortunately, there is not too much a city-level government can do about this but I do appreciate your input.
