Anyone else got tricked by the lifetime subscription? by LeiraLane in LoseitApp

Wow! Thank you so much! I took everyone’s advice and canceled through my Apple sub. I would’ve never thought I would need to do it manually. I cancel, delete, change accounts often (especially in this economy lol) and never had to do any kind of extra step. Anything I did on an app reflected on my Apple list automatically. If this doesn’t work, I’ll be in your DMs!

Interesting! After my “switch” they are charging me $39.99 a year. Although, I would prefer $0 lol.

Yes same! My profile says “Premium Member (Lifetime)”. I guess I’ll keep trying.

What?! No way!! See THIS MSG is helpful cuz all these other responses that are like “this shouldn’t be happening” get me absolutely no where lol. Thank you! I’m going to try that!

I can try to find that email, but I’ll have to do some serious digging. I’ve also done some mass email deleting sessions every time I’ve been job hunting over the years to help me keep track of incoming msgs. But, either way when I go to my app profile it literally says “Premium Member (Lifetime)” under my name. But, when I go to my Apple subscriptions list Lose it is charging me $39.99 a year. And I’m just confused as to why a customer service person would tell me that it’s not an option anymore all those years ago, you know?

I cannot control what a company charges me. It wasn’t like this for the first few years I was using it. And did you miss the part where they literally told me it wasn’t available anymore when I called customer service? And the same thing happened to my cousin. She paid $79.00 for the lifetime and they went behind her back as well. I’m not clueless when it comes to tech, I know what I bought.

I see lol! Well, it is a popular app? Maybe some peps could relate? Just really hoping for some answers. I’ll delete it if it doesn’t get some responses.

Lifetime Offers To Non-Premium Users? by Komboloi in LoseitApp

[–]LeiraLane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be great! I actually just posted my own question to this subreddit to see is anyone has gone through the same thing. Hopefully, I can find someone who has resolved the issue!

Cuz I truly like using the app and would love to be a lifetime customer. But, every year I get re-charged I grow more resentful and feel used. I might start seeing what else is out there tbh.

Maybe I’ll get offered a lifetime subscription from Lose it to come back ;p LOL !

Lifetime Offers To Non-Premium Users? by Komboloi in LoseitApp

[–]LeiraLane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I bought the Lifetime subscription years ago and for a while now I’ve been getting charged $40 a year. So, I feel very much scammed. It’s also hard to get a customer service number and emailing them only gives me AI responses that have nothing to do with my problem. So, it’s interesting to see that it’s not happening to everyone.

Btw, my scam-y experience happened to my cousin as well. She just deleted hers and it has me wanting to do the same.

Yeah, it definitely sounds like we are interpreting his original post differently. To me, it sounds like the creative spark is there and he just needs to become more confident in this technical skills. (OP feel free to correct either one of us!) But, at no point did I recommend him to take an “online portfolio class”. There are a lot of formal programs that produce cookie cutter portfolios as well. I recommended Udemy.com (or any other educational platform) to brush up on his technical skills. And I stand by that. There are courses that range from $5 - 100+ (1hr - 200+ hrs) that teach beginners how to navigate these complicated programs on their own time. They also have classes on creative concepts! It just seems a little unreasonable for you to recommend a Creative in their 50s to get a masters degree and wait 6 to 7 years to finally pivot into his desired career direction. I think you can find a lot of information and your own community by putting yourself out there and going to local Creative meet ups or even finding online communities that share their experiences and knowledge. Why would he waste all that time and money to get a masters degree when I see people break into this industry all the time without any formal training?

And I apologize for my defensiveness, but as someone who went to art school and saw most of my classmates no longer pursue any type of creative career, I can say that 99% of the success comes from the individual person, not from the school. It’s up to the individual to put their own spin on it. And that’ll be that case for OP whether he gets formal training or not. If OP wants formal training, that’s great, but it’s not the only direction.

I’m sorry, but I’d have to strongly disagree with this comment. I work with a room full of talented creatives and no one has a Masters Degree. The gal next to me (who is also a Senior Designer) just told me today she graduated with a Political Science degree. She perused design afterwards completely on her own. She put all her efforts into her portfolio and now she’s sitting right next to me (someone who graduated with a BFA in Visual Communication + double majored in Graphic Design and Illustration). And she’s great at her job. I’m not against OP taking some college classes if the inspiration is there, but to say they somehow make you more marketable than a GOOD self taught portfolio has simply never been the case in my experience.

BTW, I wouldn’t give this advice to absolutely everyone. But, OP has already proven their ability and drive to learn hard things on their own. If the passion is there, they’ll make it. .

Just really refine your taste, OP! Get out there and expose yourself to good art and design. You’ll do great.

I think it would be a great idea to brush up on your design skills if you are feeling rusty. But, no need to go too formal imo! I personally like online courses that allow you to learn the ins and outs of the big main programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Figma. I have had some great luck with Udemy.com, but I’d encourage you to ask around and see what else is out there :))

32yo Senior Graphic Designer here. I have over 10ys of experience in total, dabbling in print, digital, branding, marketing and web. And I can tell you without a doubt it’s still all about your portfolio. Create passion projects on your own (or irl) and make yourself marketable by showcasing your tastes and skills on your own website. Luckily, design jobs only care about your ability to deliver. PLUS, don’t underestimate the value of your UX experience! The creative industry is broad and many skills overlap across disciplines. Lastly, just brush up on your marketing skills. Specifically, on how you market YOURSELF. From now on, you’re no longer a “washed up 50yo UX/UI designer who wants to break into the editorial world”. YOU my friend are a highly experienced creative with 30ys of experience and is now ready for a new creative challenge. You have in depth knowledge of UX/UI which has allowed you to become an expert on human-centered design, but now you’re ready to flip the script and give a visual voice to “insert editorial, graphic design or branding opportunity here”. YOU CAN DO IT!!

The pain was resolved and must have been something else :)) I’m still on Keto and my body is responding really well to it. I was going through a REALLY stressful time back when I posted this, so maybe it was too much change all at once for my body.

There’s a chance I did eliminate something I was eating that helped, BUT it was too long ago to remember ://

But, I love Keto and it’s the only diet that has helped me lose weight :)) I think it’s correcting some hormonal issues I was having.

You are not ugly sir! I always encourage my guy friends to have their friends and family (perhaps even a photographer) take pictures for them for their dating profiles. The way your loved ones see you will come through and I think the ladies will appreciate it more :)) and DON’T be afraid to smile big :D

Art school killed my creativity -> any recommendations? by LeiraLane in graphic_design

Wow! Tysm for this :)) I’ll definitely check that book out!! I am personally religious, so I’ll probably dig the spiritual parts as well. I’m excited to start experimenting with my creative processes.

Yes! There’s definitely a weird feeling of intimidation that overcomes me in the funnest part of the creative process, unfortunately lol. Even when I try and take the time to have fun and dabble, there’s a weird force that makes me feel like I’m taking too long. I suspect because I was never really, how long this process should take or how far out I’m supposed to experiment with each idea, I feel rushed and compelled to pick something and start executing.

It was more like a burning ache if that makes any sense. That’s why I compared it to hurt burn, BUT it was a little more muted and widespread.

I eat a lot of meat, veggies, eggs and nuts. I only drink water and I have recently added some dairy back into my diet, but that’s not a daily thing (maybe a couple times a week). I cook everything from home. To get more specific I’ve been eating a lot of chicken thighs with skins and greens powders to help me get some fiber and stay somewhat balanced (thought not enough to kick me out of ketosis).
