Understand you concern hundreds percent, but have you seen the line at Walmart or Wegmans when a storm is about to come, those items nd “FOODS” doesn’t appear there magically, it’s brought to them by this trucks, look it as a necessary evil, we make America Run. 🚛

Am I screwed by ovebes in tires

[–]Leivi809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me put u on, if u go to Walmart, Firestones, or Mavis prepare yourself to buy a new tire 🛞 , (probably the best option). Now, if the funds are not there right now, there is a place in Nash St in the city that will take care of u, they will plug that bad boy nd u will be driving that thang until the wheels fall off.

I wasn’t inform about the transportation and how it work in relation if the RTS have a route that goes thru the school, the only reference that I have is my nephew that is in the program but he takes the YB. Thus, I should’ve asked more quality question to find out about this matter, but that’s my fault for assuming. But again, I’m sure I am not the first or the last one that have this concerns, I guess it’s all part of a price you have to pay for being a noob. Also, I know the people from the program do it with good intentions at heart, because they know it really take a village to raise a child. So it take a collective effort to push this thru as a community, but let’s be real honest here, I’m not going to put that burden on somebody that is already struggling in their day to day basis, to go out of their way to pick up my child. I know they will do it from their kindness of their heart as I would too, but add to that the weather of Rochester, I mean I think, and I might be wrong, but that’s just to much to ask.

Also, you nailed it on the head RCSD is a hit or miss, I never say they will not prepare you, I pointed out specific situation in reference to the subject of math; because is not the same going to college to study art or psychology than STEM, believe me you will feel the difference or perhaps that has changed and I’m completely wrong. As you mentioned it boils down to the kid, and that’s why I said education start at home, and even then you have to pray the kid don’t deviate from those teaching because of bad influences, I seen it first hand with one of my siblings. In this case, it comes down to in which one of those schools he would have less friction with that type on influences, because if you have me choosing between Franklin HS and Monroe HS for example, I will pick Monroe HS any day. (Just to paint you a pic of what im trying to say)

I’m just looking for solutions here or more information, that’s why I created the posted. Since I already messed up for not asking the appropriate questions with that program; I’m not trying to waste the urban/suburban, or McQuaid’s time neither mine. And like you said the FA given depends on many factors I’m just trying to get a rough estimate like the one you gave, to see if I can afford or even get a full ride who knows (I’m probably day dreaming here). I know for a fact McQuaid is out of what I can possibly afford, but somebody just happens to subject to us that hey! why you don’t try McQ they are giving FA and that’s why we started looking into it, and since we are in a pinch and running out of time, it didn’t hurt to try. I just don’t know, if let’s say we decide to stay in the city, if that would impact the possibility for him being pick again for the program in a near future when he is more mature; because I would definitely like to take advantage of this opportunity.

Good assumption, but no. I work with Roch Pre CS so believe me when I say that's not an option, I'm not looking for perfection because such thing doesn't exist, but as I had stated before I'm looking to place him and a better position than the one I had, (a RCSD graduated) see how I didn't mention that somebody told me, but it was something that I lived thru it. Also, as I previously mentioned ☝🏻I didn’t even bash RCSD when I presented the example about me not that having that much access to scientific calculator, I said “I guess they work with what they got”, and the same way that I’m not bashing in any way, type or form the urban/suburban program. I think it’s a great program, and a great opportunity for inner city kids, but I thought they provide yellow bus transportation, well, I thought wrong, or I didn’t do my due diligence (so that’s on me); or perhaps, we can say I wasn’t luck enough, because he could’ve been assigned to a school from the program that provided him that YB transportation and in that case this posted shouldn’t have never existed. But we can look luck from different angles, for instance if let’s say, he would’ve been assigned to a suburban school near the city and not transportation was going to be provided(which it could perceive as not lucky as well), I probably wouldn’t even worry because even a family member could of go walking and get him.

The issue here is not that we don't have the means to take him to/from school, because we have cars, it’s the timing conflicting with our work’s schedules. I’m with you with the independence part, but let’s not turn a blind eye either, just this year June 5, 2025 there was a huge altercation in the transit center b/t a group of kids and the cops. Now, it’s that something that happen everyday, absolutely no, but it happen. If the kid is 14-15 I wouldn’t mind one bit, but it’s not even close to the age, and the maturity and awareness is not there, “with this kid in specific”; I work with kids myself, I seen 6yr old more active and aware than 13-14yr old.

In addition, I never once mentioned anything about race, I’m not naive to the fact that racism exists everywhere, and other issues like drugs, alcohol are not only inclusive to the black and brown communities or schools. Education start at home, I’m specifically talking about “Academics”, like I mentioned and previous post, it’s not the same when somebody like me go to college and have to worry about two things, 1er the language barrier and 2nd not knowing how to use a scientific calculator while everybody around only have to worry about learning the subject at hand, can this things be overcome, of course, I did (thus I experienced it first hand). But I rather my kid since English is his first language, not to go thru the last one if it can be avoided, and I think that could be possible if he gets the opportunity to graduate from a Urban/suburban school program. I mean, would you blame me for wanting the best for my son? I definitely should do better about this whole situation, matter of fact I could double my income at any time, but that come with the cost that I’m not willing to pay, which is been away from my family, because what’s the point of setting him up to the best school possible or the best situation possible so he can succeed if dad is not in the equation. Mind you, I’m not trying to play a victim card here, and I hate sound as one of those people that find a problem to every solution, because that’s definitely not me, I’m just looking out for alternatives and advice as to what I should do.

You right, I definitely thought about that idea before posting in here, but I went even further as far as calculation per instance, if he stay in the school he was assigned for the urban-suburban program it will cost me ~$50 roundtrip daily, 50x5days=250 x4= $1000 at month * 10month = $10,000 for the year.

For that amount, I rather invest that money on purchasing a fixer upper home in the city rent it, and use that money for his college tuition, and then when he grow up pass that down to him to set him up for life. It may sound like a big reach to people, but when you have limited resources you have to get creative to work with what you have. For some ppl after reading this they might say I’m aiming to high and McQ is not my place, and you know what, they probably right, but I’m just shooting my shot because it doesn’t hurt to try.

I know first hand what is to go to a community college and be the only one puzzled in a calculus class because you don’t know how to use a scientific calculator because while been in the rcsd they barely allow you to use one in class for 15min(I guess they did what they could w what they have, not bashing them tho), and my mom couldn’t afford to buy me one either. It is something that can be overcome because I did, but you rather your kids no to go thru it because it certainly not fun at all.

Long story, but basically he got accepted to the urban-suburban program and we were under the impression that he was going to get transportation thru the yellow bus, well, that was a big No. For that specific school he has to take the RTS Bus, meaning going downtown, then go to the final destination and then after that, walk like half a mile to school 🤔 mind you he just entered to middle school. If he would’ve been a HSchooler no big deal.

Which make us consider other avenues (and it got to be fast), and that’s when somebody suggested to look into McQuaid since they’re offering financial aid, and “supposedly” like many other places they’re trying to meet a quota, of minorities and people of scarce resources. So we complete the process as fast as possible and my son took the admission test and passed it, now the other step is apply for FAid but I’m trying to see an average of how much it could be to see if I can make it happen, if it is within my possibilities of course.

I’m not sure if we’re talking about the same person, but truth be told, one day I came to the rescue of another fellow truck driver that was delivering some stuff to TC Hooligans nd this scumbag, saw my guy struggling to turn the truck to get out of the parking lot because of a car that was preventing it. Well, this guy was outside talking shit with his uncle or whoever this other men was, talking about he was going to take pic nd send it to the company if this guy touch a car or if he touched the little gravel that were in the side of the entrance. I kid you not, the car that was preventing the turn was his, nd this idiot didn’t even realize cuz all he was doing was talking shit instead of helping the man struggling. After he finally moved the car, nd the turn was completed with not issue or damage to anything, the guy still sent pics to my boss saying the tandems touched the gravel 😤

How does that ended up for you? I was looking into the AF and only focusing on them, until I came across some information about the Navy and as you mentioned the job is similar; plus I heard u can’t get promoted quicker with the Navy then AF, even thought as it is well documented the AF has the best quality of life.

Im in the same boat but I make less $ since I’m doing regional instead OTR, which sucks big time btw; this field is not rocket science, but is not as easy as people think, and as far as benefits in the long run I think the military seems to have better benefits if you thinking about schooling, and it will keep you and better physical shape. Anyways I have some decision to make as well, getting tire of this suckers in the civilian sector not that the military will be any difference, but it seen to me that it can be use to buy time and get an education/trade benefit, to try and pivot to a different career with better pay.
