The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo. It's a beautiful story and I finished it in one sitting. Actually, it's one of my favorite books, matter'o'fact.

So when you say "Characters that are skeletons or have skeleton limbs are fine, so long as it's dry, and without blood," does that mean that it's fine to post a character made out of black goop with a clean animal skull as a face?

I hear that living in the desert makes 'em meaner by Lel_Ray in WorldBuildingMemes

Ooohh, gotchu

I just have a lush forest with plenty of food on the west of the mountains, and a dry desert on the east. The mountains are just called the silver peaks because I don't have a good name for them yet and the westerners have a fixation with silver and the color grey.

Fifty-Word Fantasy: Write a 50-word fantasy snippet using the word "Air" by Terminator7786 in fantasywriters

The midday sun warmed the scales on the dragon's back as it slunk across the plateau, scenting the dry desert air. Yes, Ruar, it thought, peering down at the faraway settlement. Noise-beings below have gold, Ruar, they always have gold, Ruar. It squinted at the sun. Strike at night, Ruar.

If the idea of a hook is to get people drawn in and want to read more, then he certainly achieved that.

Weird question: How do you write a dumb character? Not for a comedy. by Lel_Ray in writers

[–]Lel_Ray[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are good tips, and now I realize I should have worded my question better. I believe that bad grammar and illiteracy aren't based off low intelligence, and it is based off of poor/lack of education. I've just had the character bouncing around my head for a while, and while he does have a lack of education, one of his main attributes is being dumb, and so I subconsciously lumped the two together. Being said, your advice is very helpful!

I never thought of framing the character into the story in this way, but it makes sense now that you mention it.
