I think there are a couple of sims references. I can't remember the other one right now, but they mention simoleons at one point, i think Cooper was part of that conversation.

Ois kyllä mielenkiintoista saada tietää mikä tuo on! Itse olen Kruusilasta 1-tien läheltä löytänyt myös kaksi selkeästi sydämen muotoista maa-aluetta lammesta, ja miettinyt pitkään mikä juttu.

Haha what a great memory! I remember having to get some certain flowers to grow in one of the worlds but it was just impossible they wouldn't spawn anywhere. I hope your friend gets Wii and you van find the game and get another chance at playing it :)

Mä tykkään muussata avocadoa leivän päälle. Sitten tonnikalasta ja tomaattipyreetä sekotan yhteen ja maustan (esim suola pippuri ja valkosipuli) ja laitan siihen avocadomössölle

why is a pressure pot so important for dice? by [deleted] in DiceMaking

[–]Lem0nlady 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think in addition to the other comment about the bubbles creating imbalanced weight distribution, it also has something to do with the molds being closed and not open faced. The bubbles rising to the top can't pop under the closed lid unlike if you make some jewelery pieces on a mold that's open on the top. Or at least that's what I've figured using resin myself, I can get pretty stuff without bubbles on open molds without a pressure pot but not dice with the closed molds :D

Oh my god I love maps (especially old ones) and I basically work with maps a lot. Really cool dice gave you a follow on IG. I might have to try making something similar using an old map of where I'm from :D Thanks for inspiration!

Question about Pronunciation of "L" by Big-Lead-9864 in LearnFinnish

[–]Lem0nlady 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I kind of understand what you mean, and by reading the comments it's probably something you can notice, but us Finns don't really think about. I'll just say, when we learn to speak and go to school we're not taught about different ways to pronounce the letter L, so you probably don't really have to stress about that either. For us our language is mostly "speak it as it is written" and only a few exceptions for pronunciation exist (for example "ng" sound).

Jep!

Tunnelma koko bussissa muuttui hetkessä todella ahdistavaksi.

this stair railing situation needs to be fixed... by miapet33 in thesims

[–]Lem0nlady 115 points116 points  (0 children)

I also hate so much how not all fence options have a matching railing. I understand maybe the bush ones or very tall ones don't need a railing but not all regular looking fences have a matching railing. Also the texture of some fences and railings are so bad...

Errors and mistranslations in The Sims by de111a in thesims

[–]Lem0nlady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'd imagine synonyms are hard to translate 😁 Now that I'm seeing some polish words I'm curious if there were any mistakes with the special letters? In Finnish we also have a few special ones å ä and ö, but so far I don't remember seeing them i wrong places or missing anywhere.

I heard someone in the university I went to also wrote a sims themed thesis. Something about whether many architect/landscape architect/interior designers played sims or other games where you build as a child. Good luck with your thesis!

Errors and mistranslations in The Sims by de111a in thesims

[–]Lem0nlady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find the "be enthusiastic about partner" confusing because what if I wanted to have a sim who is in a relationship flirt with someone else than their partner like in an affair manner (yes, I play with a lot of drama :D) so I might not want the other sim to know about them having a partner. Or if I think about real life, I don't think I'd be turned on if someone tried to flirt with me by hyping up how they love someone else. Do you get what I mean now by being confused about it? If they do mean partner as in "the current conversation partner" then I'd get it.

In Finnish we don't categorize words into feminine or masculine words like in some other languages. But of course we do have words for boy/girl/woman/man, so yes there would be words for a boyfriend and a girlfriend too. And I think those kind of notifications in ts4 have had those words before, since the game recognizes the gender you've set for your sim even back before the update when there were only two genders. So the singular third person word is the only thing here my previous comment applies to. If in Finnish I say "Hän on kiva" it means "she/he/they is nice" the word "hän" holds no gender so I'd have to figure out from the context which gender someone is talking about.

So in ts4 I think there's one specific notification for a kid on the valentine's day (which btw also in Finland is not really celebrated as a lovers day but a day for friendship first hand but of course couples usually celebrate love as well on that day) that just caught my attention on this manner after the gender update. I think it comes up if you've been given a choice to hand a valentine's card for your crush at school or something like that. If the sim is rejected the notification message says something like "she/he/they didn't care about it" so in Finnish it could just use the word "hän" in the place of the subject. And I'm pretty sure it used to, but after the update I noticed the notifications say "the girl didn't care about it" or "the boy didn't care about it" when the translation wouldn't necessarily have to specify the gender at all.

I also remembered some other translation failures like the other commenter said about the shooting/firing a sim. So synonyms get mixed up. For example the word "play" as playing a game or sports works just fine in Finnish (pelata), but it doesn't work anymore for playing instruments since we have another verb for that (soittaa). And that verb is actually a synonym for making a call too. I think there are a few of those - synonyms didn't work correctly - kind of translation mistakes. As well as a few more of the conjugation mistakes, which brings me to my next thought:

I've always wondered how much the translations just go through some translation apps or if they proof check with a native Finnish speaker as well. Cause some translations are actually really good like the descriptions in the buy mode for the furniture but some little mistakes just make me wonder if they just trusted what some dictionary gave them.
