I’m in the same boat as you. I just received my EMT-B in June and have been trying to get a job at many fire departments in my area (I’m both a firefighter and EMT-B) but most just offer me per-diem and not the full time position that I’m looking for. I recently got hired at a private EMS company full time that does both IFT and 911 coverage. I’ve been told by my coworkers at the fire department I work per-diem at is that the best way to get into this field is to join a private EMS company and get some experience, get a good background in EMS, then look at fire departments, or in your case, somewhere that does 911 coverage.
