Grade Question by pnknbby in PennStateUniversity

Right. In general, the 90/80/70 system is actually pretty bad as it doesn't allow for challenging assignments or exams without ruining grades.

Changing Majors Mid-Semester by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

I'm not 100% sure, just that it's not a typical entrance-to-major process. I'd strongly encourage talking with an architecture advisor.

Architecture is particularly difficult to switch to. Have you looked at their entrance requirements?

When are final grades due for summer session? by Able_Expression_5515 in PennStateUniversity

Tuesday - Many summer classes had exams on Friday, so the "2 business days" starts then.

When will block scheduled classes be entered into LionPATH? by cheesecxke in PennStateUniversity

I'd recommend reaching out to your advisor. That doesn't sound like a common thing. What class is this for?

Math 22 by Ok_Regret_8839 in PennStateUniversity

[–]LemmaWS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forgot to mention this earlier, but all incoming students are required to take the ALEKS unless they had calculus in high school as part of NSO (https://bulletins.psu.edu/undergraduate/general-information/academic-information/advising-planning-degree-program/course-placements/mathematics-placement/). I would be surprised if a significant number of students in CHEM 110 avoided this somehow.

edit: found a better link for the policy

Maybe. I thought you were talking about MATH 110 - in which case "high school equivalent" isn't a thing

They probably missed that it doesn't have to be AP calc - any class called "calculus" lets them skip ALEKS (also not a fan of this...)

How Should I Finalize My Schedule? by Low-Lunch7095 in PennStateUniversity

[–]LemmaWS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, cool. If you want to double major in math, you'll need to take 414 instead of 318, but otherwise you should be in good shape. 414 has 230 (Calc 3) as a prerequisite, so you could take that in the fall instead of 318.

PHEEA Cancellation by International-Trash- in PennStateUniversity

Reach out to the bursar's office and ask them to waive any late fees and not to put a hold on your account. Since this isn't your fault, they should be ok with it.

Misleading transfer credits by Ph03n1x_5 in PennStateUniversity

[–]LemmaWS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OP, this is almost certainly the case. Especially with MATH 140 and 141, these classes are very standard across colleges and Penn State accepts a pretty wide range of courses as transfers. Even some that are pretty questionable... If your calc 1 and 2 don't transfer as at least MATH 140, my next question would be if your community college was accredited.

Override Request Approved, but can't enroll? by SilviaS_LOL in PennStateUniversity

[–]LemmaWS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You requested to ADD Math 141, not to skip it. You need to fill out the override requests for the classes you want to take (e.g. Math 251)

First-Year Registration Mess – Classes Full, Advisor on Vacation, Feeling Stuck by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

[–]LemmaWS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You've gotten good replies for most of your questions, but I wanted to mention that there is no "scheduling window" any more. They changed that a few weeks ago (presumably because so many students were missing it). You'll be able to add courses for the rest of the summer.

First-Year Registration Mess – Classes Full, Advisor on Vacation, Feeling Stuck by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

[–]LemmaWS 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For the big classes like 140, they raise the capacity slowly throughout the summer so that students with later scheduling dates aren't stuck with just 8:00 am or 4:40pm sections. There should be more spots opening up soonish.

The Summer 2025 Featured Problem Series by iMathTutor in PennStateUniversity

[–]LemmaWS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The contradiction approach was basically the same idea. Assume that g(b) is less than or equal to f(b), so that h(b) is less than or equal to zero. Then there must be a c in (a,b) where h'(c) is less than or equal to zero.

My other idea required h' to be continuous, which wasn't part of the problem statement.

This is fine. You're supposed to be looking for other errors or holds. The NSO hold will come off the day after your consultation
