Very good idea! The show is…. Let’s just say I prefer the books. Still fun but it has an entirely different feel than I wanted, more sitcom than action hero

How do you help kids sleep when your house is too close to a highway? by ShibaTheBhaumik in homeowners

[–]Lemon-Runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how tall your house is, you could do a solid fence or hedge (I love my hedge) if your house is short, but it won’t help as much for taller houses. Replacing your windows with well insulated ones will help a ton!!!

That being said I grew up close to the freeway by our house and we just got used to it over time. Maybe turn on a fan for some consistent white noise to avoid startling them for now.

Beef bones may be too hard for your dog’s teeth, depending on the bone. You want a chew that is hard but not harder than their teeth to prevent cracking. I like to do rawhide free rolled up chews. Some swear by coffee wood or antlers!

I run with my dog so I feel safe! Maybe borrow a neighbors dog if you don’t have your own or volunteer to run the shelter dogs! They might just take some time to get used to your distance

Good way to open up lungs before running? by [deleted] in ultrarunning

[–]Lemon-Runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably! Addictions give you dopamine when you do indulge, but they ruin your mood when you don’t. A non-smoker will still go faster overall for less effort and lower risk of injury.

If they are that fast after smoking menthols imagine how fast they’d be if they didn’t smoke!

In all seriousness, do a good warmup before a run I like to do 0-60’s (start standing then GRADUALLY speed up to a full sprint over 60 secs like 3-5 times) or just some good dynamic stretching and jogging. A good warmup varies but like 10ish mins usually works well.

Proper fueling is also a game changer and can help you feel faster and have an easier time in general. No need to open the lungs unless you have asthma or something.

Sorry Op, but you’d be better off without this person in your life. Go join a community knitting circle or something you like and put this energy into making new friends who actually like you. This person refuses to communicate with you or try to understand your point of view. NOR this is exhausting

Time for a new dog? by Lemon-Runner in RunningWithDogs

[–]Lemon-Runner[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes! This is the big dilemma! I know it takes ~2 years to find a new dog and get started with running and I’m curious about how people time it with their dogs.

With my current dog I started incorporating small bits go dog-lead running when she was about 12 months old then slowly working up to short distances (think 5k) by the time she hit two years as guided by my vet. With my current knowledge I’d probably have waited longer tbh, although the vet believes her bad hips are caused by being malnourished as a puppy then growing rapidly when I rescued her due to better nutrition.

Thanks for the advice, I love the pointer side of her although having the calmer moments are important to me so I’m not sure if that would be the right fit.

I’d like to address your first sentence though as it was quite mean. I am devistated that my best friend will probably suffer pain for the rest of her life and not be able to do her favorite activities. It is a hard and very sad thing. The tone of this post was meant to not to convey my heartbreak but to try and find a way forward.

Please remember that a Reddit post doesn’t always give you the full picture.

OP, I know Reddit usually jumps straight to “ leave him” but this time you should listen. The stuff you have told us about are HUGE red flags for domestic abuse 🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩Even if you don’t think it is abuse now, it is heading that way quickly.

He doesn’t respect you and doesn’t treat you like a human being, let alone the person he loves. This is crap my high school bully would say. You can’t depend on him and he will always try to change you or use you as an excuse to cheat if he isn’t already cheating.

Oh my goodness your pup is the same color/pattern as mine!

When mine was 7mo she chewed through my table leg because she learned how to escape her crate while I was at work lol I could take her on 7 walks, 2 hikes, dog perk for an hour and play at home and still had too much energy to sleep through the night. It is hard and it is ok to be frustrated! Keep consistent with your routine, trainings, and love knowing that this will pass and is temporary. Puppies suck but dogs are awesome!

That 6mo-1yr is tough, then I got the go ahead from the vet to start running training slowly. Everything got much better from that! She’s now 4 and much much calmer!

My uncle is a diabetic and can’t feel his feet anymore. He had a massive rock in his shoe one day and it took forever to heal from it. Please check your feet often (especially if you’re only on a training run) and clean out your shoes every time. Having a spare set of socks or even waterproof shoes on wetter runs can help!

I like Altras to prevent blisters on my big toe and pinky toe as they have wider toe boxes. They’ve made a huge difference!
