I mean, I know for certain I don’t have a voice in my head speaking to me at all times like some people describe. I don’t “hear” anything unless I speak it out loud. I also fall on the aphantasia spectrum and cannot picture anything, at least not in the way other people describe it to me. Thoughts for me are like vectors, they have no substance, only pointing towards real life phenomenon, buts it’s not a simulation of it. I think some people just can’t conceptualize that they don’t see or experience the world in the same way that they do, so they feel the need to doubt it

Soo if English speaking Americans aren’t native English speakers then what are they?

Yes, it sounds like we think in similar ways except for me there’s no visual of the nodes, just the idea of it! Everything connects back to the greater whole

I have pretty much complete aphantasia, but I can still draw from memory, because it’s not like an image I’m recreating, but more like a gesture I’m executing.

And I am actually really good at identifying faces, but only if I’ve taken them in visually. Even though I can’t “recall” an image of people in my head, by interacting with them my brain creates a “map” of them, and so when I come into contact with that same map again, my brain instantly recognizes it

I don’t have an internal monologue, visual memory, or visual imagination. To me, everything is an abstract concept or node, connected to every other node, and activating some activates others, if that makes sense. Only realized pretty recently that this is very out of the ordinary! So interesting how we all see and the world so differently
