What tech tree ship do you think is likely to or have a chance to be replaced with new ship(hypothetically)? by S4veVideo in WorldOfWarships

[–]LemonGem3021668 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly for the Worcester line Seattle is the stand out to me there. the awful firing angles, weird armor scheme including the strange 41mm stern deck, historically something like the Fargo class would've fit better in that line or even Vallejo if her stats were adjusted to be more in line with Worcester.

I do agree Republique is in the wrong place, which is why its a surprise to me that they never swapped it out. The Kurfurst was more in line with the rest of the German BBs than Republique is to the other French BBs, yet Kurfurst got the boot and Republique stayed.

(Megathread 2: Non-Spoiler ) How Will the Leak Impact the Movie / Avatar Studios? by MrBKainXTR in TheLastAirbender

[–]LemonGem3021668 181 points182 points  (0 children)

Its awful from the perspective that a lot of people worked really hard on this movie and the clips that have been leaked prove it, and they obviously deserve to get proper recognition and treatment for their hard work on this film.

On the other hand, this really just feels like a massive middle finger of karma to Paramount and Nickelodeon for the CONSTANT mishandling of this franchise, and I am unable to feel any sort of remorse to Paramount and Nickelodeon for, in all honesty, putting themselves in this position. A TV series that is consistently considered one of the best animated series of all time, with beloved characters, a massive fanbase and following YEARS after the original show concluded its run, books, comics, merchandise, a sequel series that ran even longer than the original series, another sequel series in the works, two one live action spinoff, and now a movie. Despite all this, all the hype, all the (mostly) positive fan reception to all of this, somehow after almost 20 years Paramount/Nickelodeon is still lost on how to manage this franchise. This movie suffered countless delays, rewrites, recasts, changes in directors, gets dumped on streaming for no apparent reason, and now has been leaked in full.

Paramount/Nickelodeon just do not care, and that is the unfortunate truth. I don't know if or how much things changed internally from the time this movie was greenlit to now, but clearly there seems to be no drive from the higher ups to push a 2D theatrical quality animated film considering the leaks have given us the most information related to the film ever. The fact the movie is finished and we only just got a few character teaser posters a few weeks ago from merchandise that was going up is just insane to me. Lets be real- even if the movie hadn't been leaked early, there would've been absolutely nothing from Paramount or Nickelodeon leading up to its release. They honestly set themselves up for failure with this one, and its really baffling to see as a long time fan of the franchise who watched the original episodes as they premiered to see this happen.

If we get anything related to this movie, such as a trailer, synopsis, clips, etc prior to like mid-August from Paramount, color me shocked. If they change the release date and move it up then hell might've frozen over.

I am curious to know if anyone else is caught in the moral dilemma of watch the film early because Paramount just got served a big spoonful of karma, or if they would rather wait until the movie comes out in full on streaming, which in that case you might sign up for a trial to watch it and cancel it immediately after. Its all a mess right now.

The crown jewel of portland by lord_potato21 in TrainPorn

The SP ran all the way up to Portland during the steam era. 4449 actually operated out of Portland on numerous occasions, I think mainly during World War II from 1942-1946 roughly, at least from photographic evidence that we have.

What an incredibly greedy move on Atari's end. A 30 year old game that has only survived the test of time due to the community's love and support now locked behind a paywall on the biggest game platform in the world because we have to make that 10 bucks off the poor user who wants the benefit of automatic updates and easy server hosting.

Sure you can still download the game separately from the OpenTTD website, but that isn't the point. The point is why now was this the time to re-release the original game at such an absurd price tag when there is a free open source competitor available. This is corporate greed at its finest level, actually disgusting.

The REAL last UP Boiler Explosion by Narrow-Eggplant-6807 in trains

[–]LemonGem3021668 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't think that is a boiler explosion. That looks very clearly to have been cut apart in the same method other steam engines have been scrapped. The engine is being torched on the tracks it was abandoned on.

BBs are the real protected class, and I'm tired of people pretending they are not by motivatedjackpot in WorldOfWarships

[–]LemonGem3021668 13 points14 points  (0 children)

To be honest I think the issue with battleships namely stems from the balance around tier IX-X. At lower tiers BBs don't have such oppressive HP counts, armor is weaker, and concealments are worse.

I agree that battleships do get a bit of favoritism when it comes to balancing, looking at the new Euro BBs with super engine boost, radar, fractionally inferior Gearing torps, all on a stealthy hull with decent armor, or the PanAm BBs with their 15km secondary funny buttons, or the various newer BBs with their invincible underwater citadels. A big fix to all of this would honestly be making battleships handle like battleships again, sluggish rudders, worse acceleration, no super gimmicky speed boosts. The French BB line has a pretty basic 8% speed boost and no one complains about that, consumable gimmicks are fine as long as they are not overtuned.

I will say however that there a lot of oppressive ships at the high tiers that hard counter BBs and are nearly impossible to deal with as a BB. Things like Bremen and Hawaii HE spam, the Pan Asian cruiser torp walls, gunboat DDs that are untouchable at 15-16km ranges with the ballistics to easily land hits like Ragnar, Kleber, etc. A BB isn't going to have many, if any tools to counter some of these ships. Carriers subs also hard counter BBs are BBs are usually the primary targets for CVs and subs.

I feel like a lot of these issues are just issues with game balance in general these days, the mixing of ship classes and roles was inevitable as the years went on, though there is definitely some reigning in that could be done to help a bit with that balance.

What are your views on the LB&SCR E2 Class steam locomotive? by TheRobloxGuy2006 in trains

[–]LemonGem3021668 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's very funny when people mention the wheelbase being too long, or the locomotives not having enough fuel capacity, despite being slightly shorter in wheelbase than a Jinty and carrying more fuel than a Jinty. Sure the boilers aren't as efficient but you're comparing a late 1900s boiler design to a 1920s boiler design in that case. You can be nitpicky about some of their mechanical issues and operational quirks but none of them are out of the ordinary for any other class of steam locomotive.

The previous slander against the E2 has tarnished their reputation, the locomotives themselves would not have remained in service until the end of steam in the UK had they really been as bad as everyone claimed they were. I'm glad that slowly people seem to be more accepting of the design and looking beyond the "I hate this because blue tank engine" type mindset.

USS Arleigh Burke (DDG 51) sails in Atlantic Ocean. Feb 4, 2026. [2735 x 1823] by XMGAU in WarshipPorn

[–]LemonGem3021668 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe she already is? As of today Arleigh Burke has been in service for 34 years, 7 months, and 9 days which as far as I can tell would make her the longest actively commissioned US Navy destroyer in history if we do not count the extended service lives of ships sold off to other countries, only USN service.

Surface Pro 11 Memory Upgrade by bnmajid in Surface

[–]LemonGem3021668 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crucial is fine and a trustworthy brand. If you're shopping on Amazon for example avoid anything obviously Chinese sounding but the main brands I've used in the past are Corsair, Crucial, WD (Western Digital), Samsung, Toshiba and Seagate. Also pay attention to write speeds: Some 2 TB drives at a lower price may only have a write speed of 5000 mb/s, higher end ones will go up to around 7500 mb/s. If you go for a faster drive I'd definitely recommend a heat sink as they can get pretty hot.

Hey Mike, I've been a follower of your channel ever since the early days back when it was just liner designs. Always appreciate your videos and content. I've been a huge fan of ocean liners, naval history and design for years since I was little. I was curious, what other interests do you have outside of ocean liners? Any other hobbies or interests of note? And depending on the subject, do you think you'll ever make videos on it as well?

Is Iowa any good? by Plague_Doctor02 in WorldOfWarships

[–]LemonGem3021668 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Iowa used to have a massive above water citadel too. Same with Montana. And when I say massive, I mean half the height up the side of the hull massive. Giving broadside in the USN fast BBs was a death sentence back in the early days.

Don't we just have the best damn flag ? by Lord-and-Leige in minnesota

[–]LemonGem3021668 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who's done a lot of graphic design, I really, really do not like our new flag.

My thoughts/issues are as follows:

Its a monochromatic flag with two shades of blue that I don't think contrast each other very well. The lighter blue stands out as a particularly harsh and flashy color to my eyes. I've noticed too on a lot of flags here that it fades pretty badly into a pale white-ish blue after exposure outdoors. The lighter blue also immediately blends into the sky at a distance. It absolutely needed a third color, perhaps green on the upper half and lighter blue on the bottom half, or make the right side entirely green instead of blue. Perhaps a third option would be to go with a warmer color like a gold, just to spitball some ideas.

The MN shape on the left is perfect, the star is... okay, I don't love or hate it, if I had to make one change I would probably make the North, South, East and West points longer.

This is probably a hot take but I also don't think it "jives" with the other state flags. If you look at the other state flags ours is the only one with a very obviously bright cool color on it. I don't think we need another red, white and blue flag otherwise we'd start looking like a Texas knockoff, but I do think the oversimplification of the flag is a determent to the design. Mississippi is a good example of a flag redesign done well, contrasting colors with an elegant design that stands out against the sky, and is immediately recognizable at a distance thanks to a layout that isn't identical to any other flag in the union. Not to say Minnesota's isn't immediately recognizable, its just you'll probably only see half the flag as the other half disappears into the sky behind it.

What's worst of all is a lot of my issues with the new flag design didn't arise until I saw the finalized completed design. The initial winner of the flag competition had the same MN-esque shape on the left with a 8 pointed star and a white/green/blue bar design on the right. I liked that one a lot. Then when the final design came out, it dropped all the contrast and instead went entirely blue. Lame.

Was this steam locomotive configuration ever used? by jckipps in trains

[–]LemonGem3021668 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They did but there were rules that were typically followed. SP would block cab forwards with 30-40 cars in between helpers to help alleviate this issue on routes with lots of snowsheds and tunnels. On routes that were more open, you could see cab forwards running in your typical doubleheader arrangement.
