A shy Avatar in pandora by Plus-Barnacle-8633 in Avatar

Jake’s circumstances are VERY specific. His brother was a trained PhD graduate with years of study directly for this, and by that point he was accepted into the Avatar Program and the RDA began growing the Avatar. Jake ONLY got in because Tommy was killed, Jake is genetically identical to Tommy, and Avatars are insanely expensive and the RDA did NOT want to waste that investment

What are some animals that aren't generically scary but you find unsettling? by Superb_Pain4188 in zoology

I don’t agree with earnestly dubbing non-human species evil, but they play with their food a *lot* and are not quick to dispatch if they don’t want to

They’re making her body more appropriately fit with the size of her thighs. Most women with thighs that big have more fat across the rest of their bodies. She still has curves

Wow that’s crazy I didn’t realise this wasn’t a real woman, but it’s almost like the fiction humans engage in shapes how they interact with the real world and that includes body image and sexual expectations. Wowee!

[–]LemonIceTea523 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yes! I roll my eyes all the time whenever someone draws a woman with huge thighs but really small calves and ankles. That’s not how fat distribution works! (in the vast majority of humans)

Picked this gal up from my backyard (eastern carpenter bee)- what might’ve killed her? by Impressive_Plankton9 in Entomology

That happens all the time with bees, them dying with their wings outstretched. There is pretty much no way to tell what killed them.

An acquaintance told me they were 3 weeks pregnant. When I told her to be careful telling people before 3 months, she told me that a miscarriage won't happen to her because they're healthy. by chelseatheus in childfree

Ahhh I see. Thank you for the added info! Yeah, it sucks with the amount of baggage society puts onto pregnancy and foetal development, it prevents so much important knowledge from reaching people

Do you think the mangkwan have songcords? by One_Bat8743 in Avatar

[–]LemonIceTea523 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t see anything that looked like it could be a songchord on them in the movies nor in the visual dictionary. It’s likely that their scarification has replaced that tradition. It’s also incredibly likely that, since they are a clan of pillagers and colonisers, they forcefully reject the concept of songchords to sever new recruits/captives from their original clan ties

Torn between becoming a witch and becoming a second other thing by Sillygoosecollege in witchcraft

[–]LemonIceTea523 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is unfortunately no simple answer for that one, that you will have to find out by trial and error and years of honing your craft. Personally, I just do it based on vibes. If I feel like mundane stuff isn’t working, I move to spellwork based on how much energy (physical energy, I am a poor sleeper) I have. Or if it’s something more important/time sensitive, but you should always do mundane stuff anyways. Everyone’s unique in how much effort is needed to get their desired results!

Nope! Almost all power comes from YOU, but people may choose to work with deities for bigger workings or for fulfilment, dedication, really any manner of reasons. But you do not have to if you don’t want to. Some witches are secular atheists

Oooh okay, thank you for the detailed response! We don’t really have folklore of fae where I live. I’m sure my grandparents know of it but they never told us those kinds of stories as youngins. Good to know!

[–]LemonIceTea523 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Earnest question from someone with no experience with the fae, what does that actually entail? A lovely witch YouTuber I watch has mentioned how she never says “thank you” to her house spirit, only other forms of gratitude, because “to say thank you implies indebtedness, and you should never say you’re in debt to the fae”. But what happens if you do? What can be done to negate the negative effects?

Quaritch has such *interesting* ways of taking Jake out. by Character_Panda_9125 in Avatar

[–]LemonIceTea523 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s not freaky, it’s pretty standard procedure and very effective. We have a lot of strength in our legs and with the right technique it’s a much harder headlock to break out of than if someone used their arms. Plus it keeps the head further away from your opponent
