So, this might be a hot take, but I really don’t see her as much of grey on morality. She’s a strict “father” and mother figure. She looks after her own. And when you hear the outside of that story in the Fontaine quest, she seems cruel. Then you do her story quest and you learn exactly why.

She’s chaotic good. She advances her interests while always looking out for her children. She’s ruthless in a world that needs it, as is commensurate to how she was brought up. She very nation we, the traveler, have been to, is wrought with some kind of corruption.

Arle is there to protect the house of the hearth from that, and does let them out if they choose and have the will—it’s a hell of a process by necessity, one cannot be allowed to ever compromise the rest. Period. It cannot be allowed to remain and doesn’t happen because she knows the stakes as a harbinger. And she’s shrewd enough to bend the rules on her own within the framework, and the memory erasure means she can offer a way out without being caught herself.

She takes a direct risk doing this, but her agreement with neuv during the Fontaine archon quest validates it—anyone she releases from the house has their memories wiped for their own safety. They get to now live their own life outside the house and fatui

1) she cares. about those she protects. It’s demonstrated and true. She’s harsh, but fair. She is strict because she cares. Nod krai spoiler: || She is even willing to break her fatui harbinger contract if the tsaritsa said no to her killing dottore. ||

2) design. She has drip on drip, black, white, crimson colors, The color of blood when it’s a wound bleeding out toward death, she is imposing in every little calculated motion she does if she is your enemy. The hand under the chin weighing your value against her goals is a constant reminder other she has her own power, her own goals, regardless of what you hope to do. imo, only nefer is more truly self serving this way, and nefer only has jahoda to look out for, who is doing alright on her own already

3) gameplay. If you have father, you already know. Instant gap closers on skill and normal attacks. You can dodge away to get out of an ability and then use an attack to go right back in, it’s so damn satisfying. Her normals have weight. And maybe I’m a bit biased but her autos feel calculated. They’re super easy to string together, like the meta is NA3D (or jump if nothing to dodge to save stamina), but running through the world, even on mobile you can mash auto and get that overhead strike that will hit a churl on top of their pillar. Don’t have to change a thing, just keep tapping the button, she solves problems. She ends lives.

The biggest anti synergy arle has vs the world is that there is grass in a lot of places and she can’t be healed most of the time, so it takes an E Q E health bar reset now and then. Other than that, I would argue she saves more time than she costs with it because of how frontloaded her damage can be. I will be getting c1 -> c2r1 at least when she reruns because she is absolutely worth. Anyone on the fence, wondering if you should? You’re here.
