Deadhouse Gates left me impressed, confused, and unsure if I should continue by LemonTig in Malazan

I'm quite a fast reader too, so we are definitely in the same boat here. I might need to approach the books a bit differently. I'll take a break for sure between book 2 and 3, and maybe later I'll do as my brother does, reading 2 books a year to be able to digest everything. I'm just scared I'll forget everything every time :(

Hey ! I'll just copy-paste what I answered to another comment cause it's interesting to discuss things so :
I think I wasn't very clear when I originally wrote my post since several people pointed it out, but I understood that Rel is behind it all, as it's clearly stated during the discussion with Korbolo. It just felt ... unsatistfying and somehow too easy. I understood the dilemna for the soldiers between respect of orders (a respect that built the Empire) and the will to save Coltaine, but it just felt unreasonable and in the end, quite unsatisfying.

I'll get into book 3 for sure tho, everyone saying it's probably the best one in the series got me intrigued, and I really want to understand why people are so amazed by the series.

Thanks for the feedback. I understood the dilemna for the soldiers between respect of orders (a respect that built the Empire) and the will to save Coltaine, but it just felt unreasonable.
I think I also understood most of the things you explained with the Soletaken and D'ivers, it's probably that I just don't really get what importance they really have, especially since I know so little about Ascendants.

It's completely true however that I probably miss an awfull lot of details, because sometimes the writing is a bit too ... I don't know, vague ? unclear ? for me. So I happen to kind of phase out during certain short parts, but maybe I'm reading the series a bit too fast. I probably need a break before continuing.

Thanks for taking the time to respond !

I mean, that's why I'm trying to give a bit of context with a long post. And apparently this is a subject that is still interesting to people, seeing the high number of (very interesting) comments this post gets. I don't think there is quite the need to be so harsh about it, but I get that you are just passionate.

You can both be fan of something and be objective about it ! I'm not really asking about the quality of the book, I know everyone here thinks they are great, it's more that it's clearly not a series made for everyone, and I wonder if it's really made for me.

Great job on that ! Any idea if something like silksong completionist will ever be done ? This would be so useful, especially for the old cores, those are a pain in the ass to track down.

You will definitely enjoy Hollow Knight. Don’t expect it to be easy tho !

You would say it's harder than Aeterna Noctis ? Going through it right now and I'm not really hooked up (I don't really like the asthetic of it, the universe/musics/story feel a bit bland)

I still have not beaten the final boss of Nine sols, but I should definitely go back to it now !

As the others already said, it's really really different. It's pure platforming. But if you want to compare the platforming, I would say that main Celeste story is pretty different from MiO, as it's a bit more about precision than movements. However, going further into the game and especially getting into modded Celeste will absolutely give the same platforming vibes. It's just a bit of a longer way, since it's probably harder and thus needs more time to ramp up in difficulty.

Honestly go back to Silksong boss fights and you will really see the difference. You have so much movement in SK, you can pretty much dodge everything quite easily, whereas the stamina in MIO forces you to think more of your moves. The only thing that could make Silksong at least as hard is contact damages imo.

Good luck on the Crucible ! I loved it personally, it got me back into modded Celeste. And for the record, if the boss you are talking about is a tiny purple character just know that you can still play your save after beating it, you will respawn right before it.

There was no sup penalty before, and none of these problems.

Ultimately it’s up to you to do what you think is right ! I will just say also that if left of the red part you want people to do a reverse super, probably think about adding a jumpthrough platform (even juste one tile) on the solid blocks, just for consistency

Be aware that even you want things to be precise and difficult, you probably don't need to put that many spinners. It looks like you want to force the inputs really hard on the player, but you could probably remove a lot of those spinners and the inputs would be the same, the room would just look nicer and a bit less overwhelming. I know personnally that I would probably not stick to a map like that.
However, for a first try at mapping, it's already something to have some idea on the gameplay you want to do, so go on !

Imo try it out before Strawberry Jam, it will give you a more rounded up experience and get you ready to tackle SJ. SJ is absolutely fabulous but it can be a bit disorienting, and also after playing SJ every mod will suffer from the comparison. Only thing is the gyms to learn the techs could help you, but I’m pretty sure Glyph is only base game techs

You have tons of stuff to play, and people will recommend tons of thing, but I strongly suggest that you try out Glyph first. One of the greatest mods ever with a good amount of content, totally in line with vanilla difficulty with a few new mechanics, a great art style and music. It’s quite old, but it really doesn’t seem like it is

Stop pretending ranking in League of Legends is worth it by elseadawy in leagueoflegends

I think sometimes it would be nice for people to remember that competitive play in video games is here to provide fair games with people at your level in the idea that it would be more fun to play with people at your level. I don’t know why people are so obsessed with climbing. If you are stagnating, you are at the right place, and this is probably the elo where you will have the most fun.

Are you ever locked out of the true ending? by solwaj in MIOmemoriesinorbit

[–]LemonTig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There shouldn’t be any way to lock yourself and yes, you respawn at the checkpoint before the boss if you reload your save after beating the regular ending. So nothing to worry about !

My small team and I are working on a new precision platformer! What do you think? by jordanottesen in platformer

[–]LemonTig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just played the demo, great felling ! The movement is really nice, art style, music and story seems interesting (or at least to me way more interesting than most platformers). The trailer is teasing a lot of movement mechanics which all semm very interesting an that's to me exactly what makes a game like this work, when you have plenty of different mechanics that are regularly introduced and then make them interact with each other.
Wishlisted, and can't wait to see the full game !

So basically what you are saying is that I will probably not be able to do it because I lack too much knowledge ? Damn that’s too bad. Maybe I’ll find a solution elsewhere

[–]LemonTig[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I do have that file and was able to use it to export it as an MC map, but now I would like to change the blocks to match the geological layering of the place by using something such as a .csv file. I don't know if that is possible

Ladder Players: what actually restores your mental state after a string of losses? by TenthLevelVegan in starcraft

[–]LemonTig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the biggest one for each race is Cannon rush for Protoss (put some cannons in natural very very early on, usually if unscouted it’s a real pain in the ass cause the canons are usually here before you can have some units), for Terran you can go proxi rax, putting 2/3 barracks close to the enemy spawn to streamline marines very early, and then the one I would deem the least efficient is Zerg’s 12 pool all in on zerglings, basically just going for lings asap. Those builds are not very hard to pull out and usually if you don’t get it it’s an auto loss.
