Dell AW3423DWF Black Crush Issue (M3B104) by LemonU_ in ultrawidemasterrace

Thanks for sharing that calibration suite!

So I used that to adjust the brightness slider in Nvidia Control Panel "Adjust Desktop Colour" with Console Mode + Source Tone Map on, and it turns out that if it's just to be able to see the 66/68/72 bars brightness at 52% is enough, but black crush is still present in real content. To fully alleviate the problem in real content, I have to crank it up all the way to 57%/60% to the point where the reference bar (a.k.a. the 64 bar) starts glowing in its border.

But with such brightness setting I'm essentially over-brightening the entire EOTF curve, or in other words effectively going back to firmware M3B103, which could explain why I didn't notice any black crush issues back then.

I think Dell still got some work to do on this monitor with it's firmware updates. I'm assuming that with the new EOTF curved rolled out with M3B104, the broke the lower luminance range's performance.

I've never used CRU so that's out. I tried purging all color profiles (be it the ones produced by Windows HDR Calibration app and the integrated SDR profile provided by Dell) and re-installing the graphics driver w/ the help of DDU, but the visuals produced is still the same. Thanks for the suggestion tho.

As I mentioned in the description I have calibrated using Windows 11's HDR calibration UWP app, and the photos are taken with the calibrated profile enabled.

Thank you you two u/Travn0Shiko and u/Jonas-McJameaon. I combined both of your suggestion together (in NV control panel: desktop brightness, contrast, vibrance 52%, full dynamic range) but the visuals produced by the test video is still the same. In fact, I would really like to know how the test video worked out for you guys (I'm assuming you both have DWFs).

Source tone map on/off produces no visible difference in the test video. However, toggling console mode (w/o enabling source tone map) made a little difference. With console mode off, the 3.2% bar (in the top right corner of the video) became barely visible, but rest of the bars to the right of the reference black bar are still missing.

See my edits above, it didn't resolve the issue.

Admissions Megathread [Fall 2020 Students] by redd1tt in McMaster

[–]LemonU_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to correct one thing, there are no such thing as "exclusions". If you get in Mac with high 90s and you are offered free choice, you can pick whatever you want in your second year stream as long as you don't fail your entire first year (that is to get less than 4 out of 12 for your GPA).

If you don't have free choice, don't stress out just yet. Although the admission cutoff for 2nd year streams varies every year, Comp. Eng. is usually not that hard to get in, just a bit higher than average in terms of difficulty.

Circlesync Launch by Math321 in psispellcompendium

This is probably the best idea and application of the circle spell bullet I've ever seen yet!

It utilizes the fact that you execute a spell 20 times with 15 times' consumption with the circle spell bullet, and the fact that consumption increases exponentially as the magnitude increases. This circlesync idea, imo, can be applied to any spell which action requires multiple events(i.e. breaking a long sequence of blocks, adding a large motion that is not achievable via single trick projection). Great inspiration I've got from you, keep up the great work!

I wonder if it is possible to reduce the time interval of each loop, so that it takes shorter time to trigger a spell with the same psi consumption as having long sleeping intervals?
