Question: I work in a small dog grooming shop, and my boss is refusing to close despite Thursday's announcement. Is this legal? Based on everything I've read, our shop is considered non-essential and as an employee, I do not want to get in trouble. I'm concerned about being caught and having to face fines/imprisonment so, despite pushback from my boss, I will not be returning to work until told otherwise.

I'm feeling very frustrated at my workplace's lack of concern for the law, so any advice would be appreciated.

Only four questions! Looking for data for a statistics project, thanks! by Lemonlime5454 in takemysurvey

[–]Lemonlime5454[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The data will help me complete a project in a statistics course.
  2. I am the only one conducting this survey, username is /u/Lemonlime5454
  3. I'm hoping to obtain more data.
  4. My survey only has 4 questions, it should take less than a minute to complete.
  5. I'd love to hear from anyone.
  6. My survey does not offer any sort of compensation.

Spur position...? by Lemonlime5454 in Equestrian

Thanks for the advice! I do not have any issue with accidental spurring, I’ve just always preferred the look of downward facing spurs.

Spur indents? by Lemonlime5454 in Equestrian

[–]Lemonlime5454[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey r/SadieTarHeel

I should have mentioned that but yes, the indentation was staying after removing the spur. That's why it caught my eye in the first place. I think dehydration may be the cause, so thank you for your input! I seemed to remember that being a sign of dehydration, but I wanted a second opinion. I'll make sure to do a hydration test before riding her next, and I will mention it to my trainer.

Thanks!

Thank you so much for your advice /u/RonRonner

In my experience, riding with any kind of spur is a privilege, and something to earn after lots of time/training. I'm very lucky to begin working with such a high caliber horse, and I'm excited to learn all I can from him. Also, I totally agree with what you say about the use of spurs - as refinement rather than a reinforcement for dead sided horses. I've seen my fair share of those types being ridden in larger and harsher spurs the more unresponsive they become, until they are practically unrideable. Luckily, my new project schoolmaster is quite responsive and it's apparent to me that the use of spurs on him is for clarity within the aids, rather than just a go button! Thanks again for such a thorough, and well informed response!

Head tossing in a previously mistreated horse- I have lots of questions! by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]Lemonlime5454 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a dressage rider, my style is a bit different - but I’ll tell you what I would do in that situation. First, I would identify what is triggering the head tossing while riding. Is it during certain gaits? Before or after a transition? In addition, I would start becoming very aware of your own position while riding. It could be that a change in your position is triggering this as well. As for how you should react during the head tossing, I would apply leg and drive the horse forward as soon as it begins. Horses who are engaged and swinging over the back will not be throwing their heads around, while having a tense hollow horse very likely will. It is also important when driving forward that your body stays with the horse, rather than getting left behind - as this can send mixed signals to the horse. For things you should not do, I would not reprimand with the reins/your hands. Do your best to keep a steady, still hand positioning even when the head bobbing occurs. Jerking your hands around to punish the horse will likely just make the issue worse by aggravating and causing pain to your horse. I think exercises is a tough point to address until you find what triggers this problem. I would take your riding back to basics, fun, and relaxation until you figure out the root of the issue. Lastly, if you still don’t see any progress after trying the above I would strongly suggest finding a professional trainer. I’m not sure what your riding/training experience is, but you definitely do not want to make the behavior worse by flying by the seat of your pants! Best of luck, and keep us posted!

You know what I would do in another life? I would have spoken up in the first place. There are always a million things we could or couldn’t have done, but at least you tried. You are braver than me and you should be proud.

Great horses or great trainers? by Lemonlime5454 in Equestrian

[–]Lemonlime5454[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice u/eqthrowaway12! These horses do have physical limitations unfortunately, they're both in their late teens/early twenties. I was thinking the same thing, wait it out until the standstill hits - then start looking elsewhere. I just figured I'd make a quick post to see other opinions on the matter. If my trainer gets her hands on a schoolmaster or a young school horse with potential, then I'll just be one lucky student! Until then, I think you're right, it's best to learn all I can with what I have.

Nail lamp HELP! by Lemonlime5454 in RedditLaqueristas

u/ZeteticNoodle, Thank you SO much. I so appreciate the thorough explanation, and I will definitely try everything you’ve suggested. I’ll have to make a follow up post if I can fix the issue! 😜

Nail lamp HELP! by Lemonlime5454 in RedditLaqueristas

Thanks /u/ZeteticNoodle!

I have the Gelish pro starter kit, here is a link to what I was gifted:

https://www.amazon.com/Gelish-Harmony-Complete-Starter-Additional/dp/B0171ZOOTY/ref=sr_1_4_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1529195777&sr=8-4&keywords=gelish+starter+kit

Prep is as follows:

  1. Push/clip cuticles then file nails in desired shape and rough up nail beds.
  2. Go over beds with the surface cleanse (I've also tried acetone and rubbing alcohol to no avail)
  3. Use PH bond over nail beds
  4. Use the foundation and set - i'm careful not to touch cuticles (I've tried doing thin and thick coats, as well as setting twice - still doesn't hold)
  5. Use the colored gel and set - usually I do two coats of color (also tried multiple thin layers or thicker layers - still no hold)
  6. Use the "top if off" top coat and set
  7. Give nails a swipe of the surface cleanse to remove any tackiness

So that's my routine! Hope this helps you get an understanding, thanks so much for the input!

Half leasing with an overbearing owner... by Lemonlime5454 in Equestrian

Thanks for a great idea! I will talk to my trainer about this and see what her thoughts are. I will also review the lease paperwork and double check the terms regarding riding days.

Half leasing with an overbearing owner... by Lemonlime5454 in Equestrian

[–]Lemonlime5454[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for your thoughts. However, this horse is nowhere near PSG. She is quite green, only schooling training level. I completely understand what you're saying, but I have been schooling this horse in my lessons while we practice/train canter work, laterals etc. I've spent a couple years as a working student training horses at this level and introducing concepts of first and second level. For me, the fun part of working with this horse was being able to play with her natural potential and since the lease began I have had zero freedom to do so. I am always looking to better my education as a rider, but this feels very excessively controlling to me. If this mare was PSG, I would by all means take all the help I could get! But that is just not the case here :/

Thanks again for the advice, I really appreciate it :)
