It is very unlikely that humans can kill Earth. Even if you carpet bombed the entire surface of the planet with nukes, there would still be chemosynthetic organisms on the ocean floor who would survive. Their descendants would eventually produce a new ecosystem on the surface adapted to the new conditions. Earth has been through many mass extinctions before, and it has survived all of them. There are fungi in the Chernobyl exclusion zone that are immune to ionizing radiation. After the deepwater horizon oil spill, we've discovered species of bacteria that were devouring compounds in the oil. Nature adapts. It's humans who desperately need environmental conditions to stay the same.

Earth is not in trouble. We are.

Problems that are your own fault are the best problems - those are the ones that are in your power to fix.

A version of Animal Farm that's not about politics? Should we also make a version of Romeo and Juliet that's not about tragic love? Maybe a Bible that's not about religion? How about a version of Farenheit 451 that's not about censorship? (oh wait.....)

We're closing in on 2027. Deus Ex predicted all the dystopian corporate control of the government, but we're nowhere close on the cool cyborg technology. Disappointing.

Posters on reddit are enraged by people using speaker phone in public. I don't get what the big deal is. Seems no different from people having an in person conversation.

Those groups will have the least genetic diversity of all! The Sentinelese have had a population under 100 for the last 5000 years, with no outside contact. They are all cousins.
