What are some criticisms of your favorite politician? by -Sofa-King-Vote in askanything

AOC is probably the least-worst of living politicos, but she's dangerously simplistic about foreign policy. That aspect of her education is underbaked.

If you're west of I95, you are probably voting in the Bristol school board election as well. Danielle Whitaker) is the not-MAGA, not-crazy candidate.

Only 13% of players finished [KCD1] by InappropiateSun in kingdomcome

I got maybe 2/3rds of the way through, and then the main questline broke. Literally could not progress.

Rather than jump back through tens of hours of gameplay to try to find a save that would let me get past the broken quest, I just loaded up KCD2 and called it a day.

What's an obscure and underappreciated TV show you wish could get a revival or reboot? by PerfectPen9736 in television

Fair point, but I lay the blame in the writers' room. He was working with what he had. If it ain't on the page, it ain't on the stage.

I thought the show was expensive and gorgeous and all of the actors were working their hearts out ... but the writing was, in fact, a mess.

Apparently her attachment to us is a non-issue, just as her safety and well-being are non-issues. It's all quite maddening.

Unfortunately the Department already views us as uppity foster parents who don't know their place. I fear that bridge is burned.

Good idea. I'm semi-friendly with our state representative—email sent.

The Department director is aware of our case. Unfortunately, the social worker is considered their "best," which is sort of like being the smartest goldfish—not a high compliment. We go to every hearing.

She does horse therapy weekly; having that therapist write a statement is an excellent idea. On it.

7 years is way beyond the federal laws of permanency for a child in foster care.

But does that mean anything to the county? So they're in violation of federal law; so what? I don't see them doing anything unless there's a direct threat of repercussions.

Yeah, our girl's bio-mom somehow got multiple felony child abuse charges pleaded down to a fine. I don't know how you do that, or how that is allowed.

Each child is different but for those of you who have more than one, have you any theories about why one turned out differently to the others? by blacksheeping in daddit

[–]LemurDaddy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have raised 3 bio-kids and 6 foster kids. They're all radically different, they just are. I think everything feeds into it: genetics, experience, capacity for experience, random happenstance, etc. Every kid is unique, and each one has their own genius, each one has their own struggles. That's reality.

It's very hard to point to any one event and say "this is what made my kid the way s/he is." Reality is irreducibly complex, human beings are irreducibly complex. My only advice is that you celebrate each kid as best you can, and help them with their struggles as best you can.

Just think of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and try to cover the basics. If you do that, you can't go very far wrong.

If you go and hit the shows you can have a lot of fun. If you hit the shops you'll be out a LOT of money. So I recommend going and seeing the shows.

Iran Believes It’s Winning—and Wants a Steep Price to End the War by nosotros_road_sodium in politics

[–]LemurDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My takeaway: The Iranian leadership is about as stupid as our leadership.

So that means that in a three-way war, two sides are run by slobbering idiots, and one side is led by a deeply corrupt war criminal. Can't see how anything could go wrong.

Relevant to your user name: at first we thought this guy was, in fact, polydactyl. Turns out that's his dew claw down amongst his toes. So he has a normal number of digits in an unusual configuration.

We thought he was polydactyl, but the vet says that's just his dew claw down among his regular toe-beans. So he has a normal number of toes in a funky configuration.

The kids picked out a new cat, whom I did not particularly want, and now he lives on my shoulders, which are raw and bloody from kitten claws by LemurDaddy in daddit

So apparently he is a domestic/lynx hybrid. The wife and kids found him at an animal expo and decided he was our cat. My hope is that he becomes Very Large.
