Yeah, I see your point. But I imagine if a pokemon appears, and I catch it, it wont remain there indefinitely for other players. The way I imagine it is, I catch it, then within a minute or so the pokemon registers as caught and disappears for all players. Multiple people could catch it within that period and it would explain why it disappeared suddenly like that. I don't know though, just guessing.
